REAR LID, ADJUSTING

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Adjusting Gauge 3371

Panel Gap Dimensions

  1. All rear lid measurements are given in mm with a ± 0.5 mm tolerance.

Scheme 48

Scheme 48
  1. Dimension -A- = 4.5 mm
  2. Dimension -B- = 4.5 mm
  3. Dimension -C- = 5.0 mm
  4. Dimension -D- = 4.5 mm
  5. Dimension -E- = 2.2 mm all around
  6. Make sure the gap is parallel to the body.

Note. The gas-filled struts must be installed before adjusting a new rear lid.

Adjusting with Striker Pin

Note. Before adjusting, install adjustment buffer on rear lid side completely, refer to Adjusting screw for adjustment buffer, refer to Adjusting screw for adjustment buffer (Scheme 55).

Scheme 49

Scheme 49

Remove rear cross panel trim, refer to Removal and Installation

Loosen combination nuts -1-, the striker pin -2- must be able to move.

Note different versions.

Scheme 50

Scheme 50

Loosen combination screws, striker pin -2- with motor for closing aid -1- must be adjustable.

For easier installation, there are markings on rear cross panel you can use to adjust the striker pin.

Scheme 51

Scheme 51
CAUTIONTo adjust rear lid, closing aid motor must be in >>lid closed << position (lower end position). Striker pin cannot be installed in position not visible in drawing (upper end position) -1- because rear lid can contact block when closing and be damaged. Closing aid motor cannot be closed electrically to adjust rear lid.

Before adjusting rear lid, completely install upper part of adjustment buffer on rear lid side (Scheme 55)

Tighten the nuts -1- by hand.

Close rear lid and align with body contour.

Rear lid lock must be engaged in main detent (2nd lug) during this.

Open the rear lid in this position and tighten the nuts -1- to the tightening specification, refer to REAR LID ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Scheme 52

Scheme 52

If the same striker pin is reinstalled, mark this location before removing.

Note. Striker pin with closing aid can only be installed in >>lid closed << position, same as delivery condition for a new part. If the same striker pin is reinstalled, open rear lid and unlock rear lid lock or latch with a screwdriver, for example. Closing aid runs in >>lid closed << position = basic position. Now remove connector from closing aid and rear lid lock can be opened again by activating grip piece in rear lid.

Tighten the nuts -1- slightly.

Close the rear lid and align it with the body contour.

Rear lid lock must be engaged in main detent (2nd lug) during this.

In this position, open the rear lid and tighten the nuts -1- to the tightening specification. Refer to REAR LID ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Tighten the screws -2- for the stop on the body -1- to the tightening specification. Refer to REAR LID ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Scheme 53

Scheme 53

Turn the adjustment buffer -arrow- just enough until the closed rear lid with buffer stop on rear lid side makes contact with the stop.

Check whether rear lid still closes easily, repeat adjustment on the adjustment buffer if necessary.

If rear lid is difficult to close, screw adjustment buffer in.

Scheme 54

Scheme 54: ADJUSTMENT BUFFER INSTALLATION POSITION
  1. Rear Lid When adjusted correctly, adjustment buffer -3- must contact stop buffer -2- with light pretension when rear lid is closed.
  2. Rear Lid Side Stop Installing, refer to Upper Stop, Lid Side (Scheme 56) Tighten screws to 8 Nm when installing.
  3. Body Side Adjustment Buffer Adjustment buffer secured on body-side with bolts Tighten screws to 8 Nm when installing. Height adjustment is carried out using adjusting screw When rear lid is adjusted correctly, adjustment buffer must make contact with light pre-tension with stop on rear lid side.
  4. Side Panel

Scheme 55

Scheme 55

Before adjusting rear lid, install adjusting screw -2- with protective cap -1- completely in adjustment buffer -3

Remove the adjusting screw -2- just enough until the cap -1- makes contact with light pre-tension with stop on rear lid side when the rear lid is closed.

Check whether lid sits without play and in flush position by pushing or pulling on the side edge of rear lid below rear window.

If necessary, repeat adjustment.

Scheme 56

Scheme 56

When installing stop -2- tighten screw -1- to 8 Nm.

Height adjustment is carried out using adjustment buffer on body side.

Scheme 57

Scheme 57

To remove, bore out the rivet heads, drive out the rivet shafts and remove the lid.

When correctly adjusted, the adjustment buffer just contacts the lower stop on the body side; if necessary adjust the buffer.

Scheme 58

Scheme 58

Install the stop -1- until it fits securely into the internally threaded pop rivet -2-.

The internally threaded pop rivet must fit flat when installed.

Scheme 59

Scheme 59: REAR LID MOTOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
  1. Motor in Rear Lid Control Module -V375- for left side of rear lid Roof panel trim removed, refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim) . Loosen D-pillar trim in drive unit area or push carefully to side. NOTE: Remove or install drive unit only when rear lid is completely open. Before removing driving unit, loosen lock nuts on eccentric bolts. Remove electrical connector -2-. Loosen lock nut on drive unit, refer to «REAR LID MOTOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids) . NOTE: The eccentric bolt, refer to «REAR LID MOTOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids) must be loose in the hinge arm hole. Release tension on eccentric bolts with a brief turn to the right, if necessary. Remove the screw -3- on the bracket -4-. Remove the screw in the hinge arm, refer to «REAR LID MOTOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids) and remove the drive unit -1- to the side.
  2. Electrical Connection Remove drive unit before removing.
  3. Bolt 8 Nm
  4. Bracket NOTE: Bracket is positioned with a device in factory and must not be adjusted. If bracket must be replaced, for example, when doing repairs after an accident, proceed as follows. Rear lid must be installed with gas-filled struts. Secure bracket -4- lightly with screw -5- on drive unit first. Bracket must still be moveable. Attach drive unit on rear lid hinge parallel to axle until it comes in contact with motor socket. CAUTION: Drive unit socket must fit flat against hinge axle collar. Secure the bracket -4- on body side with the screw -5- and tighten it to 21 Nm. Tighten bolt -3- to 8 Nm. Tighten the eccentric bolt with the lock nut to the drive unit to the tightening specification, refer to «REAR LID MOTOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#hood-lids) . NOTE: Upon tightening locking nuts, eccentric bolts are braced in hinge with no play. For this reason, you cannot counterhold eccentric bolt hex head with an open end wrench when tightening locking nuts. When removing drive unit, this tension is released with a small turn to the right on eccentric bolt hex head, after you have loosened locking nuts. Tighten the screw on the drive arm to 11 Nm. Refer to item 6 .
  5. Bolt 21 Nm

Install the Motor in rear lid control module into the hinge
