Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Remove the bolts -1 through 4-.

Beginning at the bottom rear curve, unclip the door trim from the door using the pliers 3392 by sliding them between the door trim and the door in the securing clip area.

Pull the door trim panel -1- approximately 15 mm off the door all the way around -arrows A-.

Disengage and remove the upper door trim panel from the door on the window recess.

Disengage the ends of the cable -1- from the inside door release mechanism.

Installing

Engage the ends of the cable -1- in the inside door release mechanism lever.

  1. The open side of the eye on the end of the cable must face up.

Pull the door mechanism release cable -3- in -direction of arrow B- and guide it into the cable bracket -2-.

  1. Bracket -4- must engage audibly in the control cable bracket.
WARNINGFor proper crash sensor (pressure sensor) function, ensure door does not leak. The door trim clips -arrows- seal the system. Replace the door trim clips if necessary.

Connect the connectors on the door control module.

Position the door trim on the window recess and press it down firmly.

Carefully install the door trim panel clip on the door and then press the door trim panel into the clip so that they audibly engage.

Install the pull handle -1- into the bracket -2- until it audibly latches into the door.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Press the treble speaker trim on until it engages audibly.

TRIM MOLDING

Wrap the blade on a small screwdriver with tape to protect the trim panel and decorative trim.

Pry off the decorative trim -1- from the door panel using the screwdriver and starting at the rear -arrow A-.

Remove the decorative trim from the door release mechanism toward the rear -arrow direction B- by gently prying off the trim using a screwdriver and starting at the front so that it lifts the hooks on the inside out of the cut-out.

Installation

First engage the decorative trim on the interior door mechanism and press it into the door panel until it clicks into place.

WINDOW FRAME TRIM

When sliding the instrument panel vent into the installation opening, make sure the air duct engages correctly.

Press the instrument panel vent into the installation opening as far as the stop.

CENTER SPEAKER TRIM

Note. Be extremely careful when removing and installing because it is easy to damage the speaker trim.

Carefully detach the speaker -1- on the rear pins in the driver direction -arrow- using the 3409.

Lift the rear speaker trim slightly, disengage it at the front on the defroster vent and remove it toward the rear.

Installation

First insert the speaker trim in the instrument panel and then press it on until it engages audibly.

INSTRUMENT PANEL

Removing

Move the steering wheel as far down as possible.

Move the seat all the way back and adjust the backrest to a 45° angle.

WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION . Follow the allocation of the airbag to the instrument panel

Switch the ignition on.

Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the instrument cluster gap cover. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAP COVER .

Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER .

Remove the side instrument panel vent. Refer to SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL VENT .

Remove the MMI screen cover. Refer to MMI SCREEN .

Remove the MMI screen. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the electrical connector on the access/start authorization switch. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the center instrument panel vent. Refer to CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL VENT .

Remove the radio/navigation system. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the Climatronic control module -J255-. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the front information display control head module -J523-. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .

Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT .

Remove the instrument panel support. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT BRACKET .

WARNINGBefore handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Disconnect the passenger airbag electrical connector. Refer to FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG IGNITER 1 AND 2 N131/N132 .

Vehicles equipped with speakers: remove the midrange speaker in the center of the instrument panel. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the sunlight photo sensor -G107-. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the upper A-pillar trim. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM .

Vehicles with speakers: Remove the center midrange speaker inside the instrument panel. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the top left and right instrument panel bolts -1- in the A-pillar area.

Remove the left and right air duct bolts -arrows- on the instrument panel.

Remove the instrument panel bolts -1- on the center of the instrument panel central tube.

WARNINGFollow the allocation of the airbag to the instrument panel.

Position the instrument panel vent and guide the electrical connectors for the sunlight photo sensor -G107- and speaker through the openings in the instrument panel.

Check if there is a rubber buffer -3- on the clamp -2- on the lower windshield frame.

When sliding the instrument panel -1- on, make sure the clips engage in the box-shaped profiles on the bottom side of the instrument panel.

WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION . Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Align the instrument panel with the door trim panels and tighten the screws.

WARNINGConnect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

INSTRUMENT PANEL SIDE COVER

Carefully remove the instrument panel vent -1- out of its opening alternating from the side to the top using the 3438.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

SIDE SPEAKER TRIM

Using a small screwdriver, carefully pry the speaker trim -1- out beginning at the corner -arrow-.

Fold the speaker trim upward and remove it.

Installation

First insert the speaker trim in the instrument panel and then press it on until it engages audibly.

SWITCH FOR ACCESS/START AUTHORIZATION, TRIM PANEL

Remove the center instrument panel vent. Refer to CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL VENT .

Insert the VAS 6339 through the trim covers.

Position the tips of the VAS 6339 on both holes -A arrows- on the access/start authorization switch -E415- -2-.

Press the VAS 6339 together -B arrows- to spread the tips of the pliers and release the trim retaining tabs.

Hold the VAS 6339 pressed with one hand and remove the trim -1- with the other hand -arrow C-.

Note. Only use the VAS 6339. Remove the trim by hand.

Installation

Install the upper and lower trim on the switch until they audibly latch.

Install the center instrument panel vents. Refer to CENTER INSTRUMENT PANEL VENT .

TOP CENTER DEFROSTER VENT

Remove the right instrument panel vent air duct. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the left fuse panel C -SC- and the right fuse panel D -SD- from the instrument panel central tube. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the data bus on board diagnostic interface -J533- and lay it aside. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the bolts -1- on the left and right of the central tube support and remove the bracket -2-.

Remove the left and right bolts -3- for the central tube support.

Remove the A/C unit bolt -1- on the left and right of the central tube support.

Remove the A/C unit bolt -1- on the instrument panel central tube top brace.

Remove the ground wire and left ground point from the tunnel wall and free them up.

Disconnect the connectors on the accelerator pedal module and the brake light switch and free them up.

Remove the front right sill panel trim. Refer to FRONT SILL PANEL TRIM .

Disconnect the connectors on the A-pillar coupling station. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the electrical connector on the fresh air blower and free up the wires.

Remove the air intake chamber bracket bolts -1- on the instrument panel central tube.

Carefully tilt the top side of the instrument panel central tube back while pulling it up.

Remove the instrument panel central tube from the vehicle interior.

Installation

Engage the instrument panel central tube on the A/C unit -3- and on the upper -2- and lower -4- stop brackets.

Align the instrument panel central tube -4- with the A-pillar.

Tighten the two nuts -2- and -3- on threaded pin -1- and insert the threaded pin in mount -5- on the A-pillar on the driver side and tighten.

  1. The threaded pin must be installed all the way until the collar on the mount touches the A-pillar.

Carefully unclip the A-pillar trim -2- beginning at the top using a 80 - 200 -arrow B-.

Push the A-pillar trim upward and remove it -arrow C-.

Note. Depending on the date of manufacture, the clip slides out of the guide on the trim when it is pulled upward.

Installation

Disengage the floor covering at brackets -1- and -2-.

WARNINGIgnition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
CAUTIONWhen working on vehicles with the ignition turned on or where the engine has been started, there is a risk of unintentional engine start and of being poisoned by gas in closed areas. There is a risk of clothes and body parts being pulled or getting stuck. Perform the following steps before turning on the ignition: Move the selector lever into P. Set the parking brake Turn the ignition off. Open the hood. Connect battery charger VAS 5095A to the battery jump start terminal. Turn on the ignition.

Turn on the ignition and connect the battery ground cable. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Carefully remove the rear cross panel trim panel upward and disconnect the connector for the rear lid closed sensor 1 -G525- / -G526-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Note. If the trim clamps remain in the body mounting points, remove them and insert them in the trim. Check clamps for damage or deformation, replace if necessary.

Push on the rear cross panel trim until it engages audibly and stretch the lip of the rear lid seal over the rear cross panel trim.

Engage the ends of the cable -1- in the inside door release mechanism lever.

  1. The open side of the eye on the end of the cable must face up.

Pull the door mechanism release cable -3- in -direction of arrow B- and guide it into the cable bracket -2-.

  1. Bracket -4- must engage audibly in the control cable bracket.

Connect the connectors on the door control module.

Position the door trim on the window recess and press it down firmly.

Carefully install the door trim panel clip on the door and then press the door trim panel into the clip so that they audibly engage.

Install the pull handle -1- into the bracket -2- until it audibly latches into the door.

Install in reverse order of removal.

  2. Distance of the outer bead of adhesive to the edge of the roof reinforcement, dimension -b- = approximately 0.75 inch (20 mm).

Mount the roof reinforcement -1- centered to outer sides and at distance -a- to the bow -2- of the front edge of the roof.

Unclip the sun visor center bracket cover -1- by sliding the 80 - 200 only approximately 1 mm under the cap -2 arrows-.

Note. If the 80 - 200 is shoved further underneath, it will then be under the center bearing for the sun visor. At that point, it is not possible to pry off the cover.

Remove sun visor center bracket -3- -arrow 4-.

Installation

Make sure the expanding clips are not damaged when inserting the sun visor center bracket.

Press the cap -1- on until it engages audibly.

Remove the screws -1- and remove mount -2- from the window frame.
