Sunroof Audi Q5 I

Note. Whenever a glass panel, a motor, the slotted guide rail or the sun shade is removed, it is necessary to perform an adaptation for the appropriate drive. If new motors have been installed, then the adaptation process will start 10 seconds after the switch has been activated. Pinch protection is switched off when performing an adaptation.

Power sunroof control module -J245- adaptation

The ignition is switched on.

The sunroof regulator -E139- must be in the "sunroof closed" position.

Pull the sunroof regulator -E139- -1- down -arrow- and hold it steady in this position for the entire adaptation process (about 20 seconds).

Scheme 1: SUNROOF ADAPTATION

During the adaptation process, the glass sunroof will first close and then retract by approximately 200 mm.

Let go of the sunroof regulator -E139- after the sunroof closes again and the adaptation procedure has completed.

Roof blind control module -J394- adaptation

The ignition is switched on.

Press the folding sunroof button 1 -E584- >>close sunshade<< -2- and hold it in this position for the entire adaptation process (about 20 seconds).

During the adaptation process, the sunshade will first close and then retract by approximately 200 mm.

Release the folding sunroof button 1 -E584- after the sunshade has closed again; the adaptation process is now complete.

FRONT AND REAR GLASS PANEL HEIGHT, ADJUSTING

Note. Adjust the front glass sunroof panel only on the front edge and the rear glass sunroof panel on the rear edge. To achieve the best possible exterior optical characteristics, make sure that the adjustment on left and right sides is performed as evenly (symmetrically) as possible.

Check the height adjustment

Check the adjustment of the front -1- and rear -2- glass panels with a depth gauge.

Remove trim, refer to GLASS PANEL

Remove both left and right front screws -arrows- on the glass panel -1-.

Scheme 4: ADJUST THE FRONT GLASS SUNROOF PANEL

Close the glass panel.

Adjust the glass panel -1- according to the illustration.

  1. Dimension -a- : 1.5 ± 1 mm
  2. Dimension -b- : 1 ± 1 mm
  3. Dimension -c- : 1 ± 1 mm

Tighten the left and right screws to 4.5 Nm.

Install the trim.

Gently pull the inner seal -3- toward the inside on the marked locations -arrow- and loosen the screws -2- for the rear glass panel -1-.

Scheme 5: ADJUST THE REAR GLASS SUNROOF PANEL

Adjust the rear glass panel -2- according to the illustration.

  1. Dimension -a- : 1.5 ± 1 mm
  2. Dimension -b- : 1 ± 1 mm
  3. Dimension -c- : 1 ± 1 mm

Tighten the screws to 4.5 Nm.

  2. Sunroof control module -J245
  3. Assembly frame Removing NOTE: Two persons are needed to remove and install the frame. -- Remove headliner, refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim) . -- Disconnect the water drain hoses from the connections -arrows- in the frame -3-. -- Disconnect the wiring harness connector on the power sunroof control module -J245- -2- and the roof blind control module -J394-. -- Remove the screws -1- from the frame -3- and with a second person, lift the frame out of the vehicle. Installing -- Lift the frame into the vehicle and install the screws -2- but do not tighten them. -- Center the frame with the roof using two 8 mm drill bits ø on the centering holes. -- Tighten both outer front and rear screws to the tightening specification.
  4. Roof sun shade control module. -J394

FRAME ATTACHING SEQUENCE

Note. Always tighten the screws to the tightening specification following the specified sequence.

First tighten the inner screws -A- next to the front and rear motors.

Then tighten the front and rear outer screws -B- likewise.

Tighten the front and rear screws -C-.

LUBRICATING GUIDE RAILS

Note. Clean and lubricate the sliding areas of the guide rails before installing the new slotted guide rails.

Clean the sliding areas -3- with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Lubricate the guide rail sliding areas -3- on the frame -2- with lithium grease -G 052 147 A2-.

The inner -4- and outer -3- seals must be coated with a special lubricating varnish and must not be greased.

Do not lubricate the cables and the motor support.

WATER DRAIN HOSES, CLEANING

Note. For cleaning, it is recommended that you create your own assisting tool that resembles a speedometer inner cable in size and flexibility and is approximately 8 feet (2300 mm) in length or an equivalent tool.

  1. Front Water Drain Hoses The front water drain hoses are routed through the A-pillars and come out between the door and the A-pillar at the bottom. Start cleaning from the sunroof opening.

  3. Rear water drain hose The rear water drain hoses run through the D-pillars and end in the rear wheel housings. Clean starting from the wheel housing and working outward. The wheel housing liner must be removed for this.

GLASS PANEL

Removing

CAUTIONDo not move the slotted guide rail when the glass panel is removed otherwise the wind deflector can get damaged.

  2. Front Glass Panel Removing -- Open the glass panel -1- far enough until the trim -2- is accessible. -- Remove the trim -2- in direction of -arrow A- and disengage the retaining tab -3- on the back side. -- Squeeze the catch -4- on the back -arrow B- and unclip the trim. -- Push the trim -2- in direction of -arrow C- and remove it. -- Remove the left and right screws on the front cover.

Remove the left and right screws -arrows- from the glass panel -1-.

Lift out the glass panel.

Installation

Note. Always replace the screws when installing or removing the glass panel. Clean any remaining locking compound from the threaded holes with a thread cutter.

Install the glass panel -1- from the top and install the screws -arrows- but do not tighten them.

Adjust the front glass panel. Refer to FRONT AND REAR GLASS PANEL HEIGHT, ADJUSTING .

Tighten the screws -arrows- to the tightening specification. Refer to SUNROOF ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Engage the front trim -2- into the glass panel -1- and slide it in direction of -arrow A-.

Install the catch -4-.

Engage the retaining tab -3- on the back -arrow B-.

After completing this procedure, perform an adaptation on the sunroof motor. Refer to SUNROOF ADAPTATION .

REAR GLASS PANEL

Removing

Open the front glass panel all the way.

Remove the screws -1- from the rear glass panel -3-.

Remove the spacer -2- between the glass panel -1- and the frame -4-.

Open the front glass panel.

Gently pull the inner seal -3- inward at the marked locations -arrow- and remove the screws -2-.

Lift out the rear glass panel -1-.

Installation

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Note. Replace the screws when installing or removing the glass panel.

Install the glass panel from the top into the roof.

Gently pull the inner seal -3- inward at the marked locations -arrow- and install the screws -2-, but do not tighten them.

Adjust the rear glass panel. Refer to FRONT AND REAR GLASS PANEL HEIGHT, ADJUSTING

After the rear glass panel is adjusted, tighten the screws to 5 Nm.

After completing this procedure, perform an adaptation on the sunroof motor. Refer to SUNROOF ADAPTATION .

Remove the rear glass panel. Refer to REAR GLASS PANEL .

Replace Front and Inner Seals

Remove the seal from the rear glass panel -1-.

Remove any remaining adhesive with adhesive remover VAS 6349.

The adhesion surface on the rear glass sunroof panel must be free of dust and grease.

Clean the surfaces thoroughly with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Wipe down the surfaces on the rear glass panel with the supplied primer towel.

Note. Pay attention to the drying time of the primer towel.

Remove the protective film from the adhesive strip on the new seal and press on both corners of the seal.

Press seal on evenly to prevent any excess length.

Press on the seal evenly using the roller 3356.

Install the rear glass panel. Refer to REAR GLASS PANEL .

Replace Side Seal

Remove the side seal -2- from the rear glass panel profile -1-.

Remove any remaining adhesive with adhesive remover VAS 6349.

The adhesion surface on the rear glass sunroof panel must be free of dust and grease.

Clean the surfaces thoroughly with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Wipe down the surfaces on the rear glass panel with the supplied primer towel.

Note. Pay attention to the drying time of the primer towel.

Pull of the protective film from the adhesive strip on the new seal.

Press the seal -2- and mount -1- onto the glass panel -3-.

Press the seal onto both ends.

Press the seal -2- into the glass panel profile -1- evenly to prevent any excess length.

Press on the seal firmly and evenly with the roller 3356.

Install the rear glass panel. Refer to REAR GLASS PANEL .

OUTER SEAL

Note. Replace the seal after replacing the sunroof.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Door Insulation Foil Application Roller 3356

Removing Seal

Sunroof frame removed.

For removal, remove the seal -1- from around the roof cutout.

Installing Seal

Before installing seal, remove adhesive residue if necessary.

Adhesion surface must be free of dust and grease.

Clean adhesion surface thoroughly with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Wipe down the surfaces on the frame with the supplied primer towel.

Align the seal-joint -1- in the center of the rear roof cutout -arrow-.

Peel off the protective film from the adhesive strip -2- on the side of the joint.

Position seal on flange and at the same time, press it on past radius.

Peel off the protective film from the adhesive tape in sections and press the seal on.

Press seal on evenly to prevent any excess length.

Press seal on firmly and evenly with a roller, running it all around 2 times.

INNER SEAL

Remove the front glass panel. Refer to GLASS PANEL .

Remove the rear glass panel. Refer to REAR GLASS PANEL .

Remove the inner seal -2- from the frame -1-.

Remove any remaining adhesive with adhesive remover VAS 6349.

Adhesion surface must be free of dust and grease.

Clean the surfaces thoroughly with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Wipe down the surfaces on the frame with the supplied primer towel.

Position the inner seal -2- onto the frame surfaces -1- with the joint in the center of the rear roof cut-out.

Peel off the protective film from the adhesive strip -3- on the new inner seal in sections and press the seal on.

Press the inner seal on evenly to prevent any excess length.

Using the roller 3356 press the inner seal two times firmly and evenly all the way around.

Install the rear glass panel. Refer to REAR GLASS PANEL .

Install the front glass panel. Refer to GLASS PANEL .

WIND DEFLECTOR

Removing

Open the front glass panel all the way.

Unclip the circlip -1- above the mounting bracket -2- for the wind deflector -3- using a screwdriver.

Unclip the wind deflector mounting bracket -1- -2- with a screwdriver.

Remove the screws -1- on the wind deflector -2-.

Remove the wind deflector upward from the frame -3-.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

After installing, tighten the screws to 2 Nm.

Note. The wind deflector bracket must audibly engage. Always replace the brake clips after it has been disassembled.

WIND DEFLECTOR BEARING

Removing

Remove the wind deflector. Refer to WIND DEFLECTOR .

Remove the mounting pin -2- from the upper screen frame -1- and the wind deflector bearing -3-.

Remove the wind deflector bearing -1- in -direction of arrow- from the upper screen frame -5-.

Remove the tensioning wire -2- from the lower screen frame -4- and from the screen -3-.

Installation

Insert the tensioning wire -2- through the screen -3- and into the lower screen frame -4-.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Install a new mounting pin to secure the wind deflector bearing.

Install the wind deflector. Refer to WIND DEFLECTOR .

Removing

Remove the sunroof regulator. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Disconnect all connectors for the power sunroof control module.

Remove the screws on the sunroof motor and remove the power sunroof control module from the headliner.

Installation

Install the power sunroof control module -2- and tighten the screws -arrows- to 3.5 Nm.

Connect the connector -1- on the sunroof motor -2-.

Install the headliner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

After completing the work procedure, perform an adaptation on the sunroof motor. Refer to SUNROOF ADAPTATION .

ROOF BLIND CONTROL MODULE

Removing

Remove headliner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the connector -1- on the roof blind control module -2-.

Remove the screws -arrows- from the roof blind control module -2-.

Remove the roof blind control module -2-.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Prior to installing the motor, make sure the sun shade is parallel by measuring -dimension a- between the shade arch -1- and the shade cartridge -2-.

Tightening Specifications

Screws - 3.5 Nm

After completing the work procedure, perform an adaptation on the sun shade motor. Refer to SUNROOF ADAPTATION .

SUN SHADE

Removing

Open the sun shade all the way.

Remove the rear glass panel. Refer to REAR GLASS PANEL .

Remove the screw -3- from the cap -2-.

Unclip the catch -arrow- on the cap -2- from the frame with a screwdriver -4- and remove the cap -2-.

The inner seal -1- is not removed.

Carefully lift the sun shade arch -2- together with the sun shade glide -1-.

Note. Be careful not to damage the sun shade material -3-.

Remove the sun shade glide sideways -1- in -direction of arrow- from the sun shade arch -2-.

Remove headliner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the sun shade cartridge screws -1- -2-.

Pull the sun shade cartridge -2- in -direction of arrow- slightly downward on the sun shade motor -3-.

Pull the sun shade cartridge -2- and the sun shade steel band -4- in -direction of arrow- out of the sun shade rail -1-.

Removing Sun Shade to Replace Sun Shade Arch

Remove the sun shade arch -1- in -direction of arrow- from the sun shade material -2- piping -3-.

Install the new sun shade arch -1- on the piping -3-.

Installation

Note. The sun shade arch must be mounted prior to installing the sun shade cartridge. Do not lubricate the sun shade slide and cables.

Slide sun shade steel band -4- into end slot of rail -1-. Steel band should slide easily and be captured on both sides.

Note. Be careful not to damage the sun shade material -3-.

Insert guide pin -2- and -3- into places shown in illustration on rail -1-, making sure tab rests above rail.

Tip sun shade cartridge into place and secure with 2 fasteners.

Note. The sun shade glide -4- must engage into the opening in the sun shade steel band -1- and into the sun shade coupling plate -2-.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening Specifications

  1. Sun shade cartridge screw: 3.5 Nm
  2. Cap screw: 2 Nm

Note. Check for ease of movement after installing the sun shade. Using a hex wrench, manually move the sun shade drive on the motor and make sure there are not creases or folds in the sun shade material.

Install the headliner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the rear glass panel. Refer to REAR GLASS PANEL .

After completing the work procedure, perform an adaptation on the sun shade motor. Refer to SUNROOF ADAPTATION .

Removing

Remove the assembly frame from the vehicle. Refer to ASSEMBLY FRAME ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Remove the inner seal -2- from the assembly frame -1-.

Remove the sun shade. Refer to SUN SHADE .

Loosen the wiring harness from the frame section.

Remove the screws -3- from the frame -2- on the guide rail -1-.

Mark the location -arrow- on the frame -3- for later assembly.

Cut the bonded joint -2- between the guide rail -1- and the frame -3- using a knife.

Pull the whole frame -1- and guide tubes -2- in -the direction of the arrow- out of the guide rails -3-.

Installation

Remove any adhesive residue with adhesive remover VAS 6349.

Clean the adhesive surfaces on the frame and the guide rails using cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Press 3.5 mm butyl adhesive sealing cord AKD 497 010 04 R10 -2- into the adhesive channel on the frame -1- as illustrated.

Slide the entire frame -2- and guide tubes -3- onto the guide rails -1- opposite the -direction of arrow-.

Tighten the frame -1- screws -3- on the guide rails -2- to 2 Nm.

Note. Check the assembly frame for leaks before installing.

Seal the water drain hole -1-.

Fill the area -3- between the frame -2- and the guide rails -4- with water.

Wait at least 5 minutes and then check for leaks.

Seal any leaks using the butyl sealing cord AKD 497 010 04 R10.

Install the sun shade. Refer to SUN SHADE .

Install the sun shade motor. Refer to ROOF BLIND CONTROL MODULE .

Install a new inner seal. Refer to INNER SEAL .

Install the assembly frame. Refer to ASSEMBLY FRAME ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

After completing the work procedure, perform an adaptation on all sunroof drives. Refer to SUNROOF ADAPTATION .

REAR MOTOR SUPPORT AND SUN SHADE CABLE

Removing

Remove headliner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the sun shade motor. Refer to ROOF BLIND CONTROL MODULE .

Remove the sun shade. Refer to SUN SHADE .

Remove the screws -arrows- for the cable covers -1- and -3-.

Remove the cable covers -1- and -3- from the frame -4-.

Remove the sun shade cables from the guide tubes -3- and from the motor support -5-.

Pry the motor support -5- out of the frame -1- with a screwdriver.

Note. Do not lubricate the sun shade slide cables and motor support.

Remove the assembly frame from the vehicle. Refer to ASSEMBLY FRAME ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Remove sunroof motor. Refer to ROOF BLIND CONTROL MODULE .

Remove the screws -arrows-.

Remove the cable covers -1 and 3- from the frame -4-.

Remove the cable ends -1- from the motor support -2-.

Pry the motor support -1- out of the frame -3- with a screwdriver.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Note. Do not lubricate the sun shade slide cables and motor support.

Install the sunroof motor. Refer to POWER SUNROOF CONTROL MODULE .

Install the frame. Refer to ASSEMBLY FRAME ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

After completing the work procedure, perform an adaptation on the sun shade motor. Refer to SUNROOF ADAPTATION .

FRONT GLASS PANEL SLOTTED GUIDE RAIL AND CABLE

Removing

Remove the front glass panel. Refer to GLASS PANEL .

Remove the rear glass panel. Refer to REAR GLASS PANEL .

Remove the frame. Refer to ASSEMBLY FRAME ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Remove the sunroof motor. Refer to ROOF BLIND CONTROL MODULE .

Remove the frame section from the frame. Refer to REAR FRAME .

After removing the frame, push the slotted guide rail to rear and remove it.

CAUTIONNote location of the cables before removing so installation errors can be avoided later. The slotted guide rail must not be pulled or pushed on the guide.

Move the guide panel slotted guide rail only on the location -arrow- on the guide slots -3- and not on the guide rail -2-.

The slotted guide rail opens when pushed.

Remove the slotted guide rail -2- on the guide slots -arrow- toward the rear and out of the guide rails -1- using a screwdriver.

Disengage the cable -2- from the guide slots -1- in -direction of arrow A-.

Remove the slotted guide rail -1- in -direction of arrow B- from the guide rails -3-.

Remove the cable -2- in -direction of arrow B- from the guide rails -3-.

Installation

Note. Clean and lubricate the sliding areas of the guide rails before installing the new slotted guide rails. Clean with cleaning solution D 009 401 04. Lubricate the guide rails in the sliding areas using lithium grease -G 052 147 A2-. Refer to LUBRICATING GUIDE RAILS . Do not lubricate the cables.

Install the slotted guide rail into the guide rail -1-.

Make sure the slider -2- points toward the rear when sliding the it into the guide rails -1-.

Install the cable -2- into the guide rails -3- in -direction of arrow B-.

Engage the cable -2- opposite the -direction of arrow A- into the guide slots -1-.

Note. The slotted guide rail must not be pulled or pushed on the guide.

Slide the slotted guide rail on both sides all the way forward until it has completely lowered.

When doing this, slide the tilting mechanism only on the locations -arrow- on the guide slot -3-, and not on the slotted guide rail -2-.

Install the frame section on the frame. Refer to REAR FRAME .

Install the sunroof motor. Refer to POWER SUNROOF CONTROL MODULE .

Install the frame in the vehicle. Refer to ASSEMBLY FRAME ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Install the rear glass panel. Refer to REAR GLASS PANEL .

Install the front glass panel. Refer to GLASS PANEL .

After completing the work procedure, perform an adaptation on the sunroof and sun shade motor. Refer to SUNROOF ADAPTATION .
