Plenum Chamber E-Box, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

1. Protective Cap For Cable Connector VAS 6223/9 from Fiber Optic Plier Repair Set VAS 6223

Removing

Note. All cable ties opened or cut during engine removal must be reinstalled at the same locations during installation.

1. With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) wire --> «Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/cruise-control-systems/#electrical-equipment__battery-disconnecting-and-connecting) .
2. Remove glove compartment --> «68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#body-interior) .
3. Fold back floor carpet.

Scheme 420

1. Remove bolts - arrows - and remove Front Information Display Control Head Control Module J523.
2. Disconnect electrical connectors - 1 - and - 3 -.
3. Disconnect harness connector - 2 - for fiber-optic cable.

1. Seal open wiring harness fiber optic connector - 2 - with Wiring Harness Connector Protective Cap VAS 6223/9 - item 1 -.

Note. Protective cap prevents contamination of or mechanical damage to end face of fiber optic cable which would impair signal transmission.

Scheme 421

1. Unclip retainers - arrows - and detach Level Control System Control Module J197.
2. Disconnect connectors.

Scheme 422

1. Detach insulating mat behind Level Control System Control Module J197
2. Remove nuts - arrows - and detach cover.

Scheme 423

1. Remove nuts - arrows -.

1. Remove rubber seal - 1 - on plenum chamber covers.
2. Remove plenum chamber covers - 2 - and - 3 -.
3. Remove dust and pollen filter --> «87 - AIR CONDITIONING»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/ac-compressor/#heating-air-conditioning) .

Note. Cover air duct at air conditioner housing with clean cloth to stop anything falling in.

1. Remove wiper arms --> «Windshield Wiper Arms, Removing and Installing»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/cruise-control-systems/#electrical-equipment__windshield-wiper-arms-removing-and-installing) .

1. Remove the bolts at the left and right - arrows - for the cowl panel grille - 1 -.

1. Carefully remove the cowl grille from the locking mechanism on the windshield.

Scheme 424

1. Remove screws - arrows -.
2. Detach both retainers and engine control unit from plenum chamber electronics box.
3. Lay aside engine control unit with attached connectors.

Scheme 425

1. Turn Air Quality Sensor G238 - item 1 - counter-clockwise 90 and remove sensor from mount.
2. Release the retaining clips - arrows -.
3. Open plenum chamber electronics box cover slightly and pull off to front.

Scheme 426

1. Disconnect multi-connectors - 1 -.
2. Release fasteners - arrows - and lift off auxiliary relay carrier in electronics box.
3. Disengage engine wiring harness at electronics box and lay bare.
4. Remove and lift off electronics box.

1. Unclip plug-in sockets for multi-pin connectors.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Note. Re-attach all cable ties at the same locations when re-installing.

1. Install glove compartment --> «68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#body-interior) .
2. Connect battery. Required actions --> «Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/cruise-control-systems/#electrical-equipment__battery-disconnecting-and-connecting) .
3. Adjust wiper arms --> «Windshield Wiper Arms, Adjusting»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/cruise-control-systems/#electrical-equipment__windshield-wiper-arms-adjusting) .
