Engine, Installing Audi A8 D3

CAUTIONDO NOT re-use fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use. Some fasteners are designed to be used only once and are unreliable and may fail the second time. This includes, but is not limited to nuts, bolts, washers, circlips and cotter pins. Always follow the recommendations in this manual - replace these fasteners with new parts were indicated and any other time when deemed necessary by inspection. To prevent contact corrosion, use only approved nuts, bolts and washers, etc. These fasteners have a special coating and are identified by green coloring.

Install engine in reverse order of removal - but note the following

  1. Check clutch release bearing for wear and replace if necessary.
  2. There is no needle bearing in the crankshaft for vehicles with automatic transmission.
  3. When installing an exchange engine with manual transmission, check for needle bearing in the crankshaft. Install one if not yet installed.
  4. Check that dowel sleeves for centering engine/transmission are installed in the cylinder block; install if necessary.
  5. Align exhaust system free of stress
  6. Check level of hydraulic fluid and fill up if necessary.
  7. Fill cooling system.
  8. Install torque support without tension - use additional shims if necessary.
  9. Align engine by shaking engine before tightening engine mounts.
  10. Check oil level before starting engine.
  11. Check ATF level (automatic transmission). See «CHECKING FLUID LEVEL»(ref-8558-S21544988812000091100000) (01L, AWD), or «CHECKING FLUID LEVELS»(ref-171109-S39590086932005012700000) (01V, FWD). CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting the vehicle battery. See «EXAMPLE: SWITCH OFF EMERGENCY (BACK-UP) BATTERY»(ref-196892-S39946589162005101000000) . Switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting the vehicle battery.   12. After connecting battery, enter anti-theft code for radio. See Radio operating instructions.
  13. Close windows.
  14. Operate all electric window switches again for at least one second in the "close" direction to activate "one-touch" opening and closing function.
  15. Set clock to correct time.
