Checking activation

  1. Connect Adapter Cable (121-Point) VAG1598/31 to wiring harness of the Engine Control Module (ECM) J623 ; the ECM is not connected. --> «Diagnostic tester, connecting»(/audi/a6/6-2004-2008/remont/cooling-fan/#42l-v8-5v-generic-scan-tool-engine-codes-bnk) .
  2. Using Multimeter V.A.G. 1526 A or equivalent, check the following wiring connections for open circuit.

Specified value: Wiring resistance max 1.5 ohms.

  1. Check wiring for a short circuit to Battery positive (+) or an open circuit.
  2. If necessary, repair faulty wiring connection.

If no malfunctions are found in the wiring

  1. Replace Engine Control Module (ECM) J623 --> «Engine Control Module (ECM) J623 , replacing»(/audi/a6/6-2004-2008/remont/cooling-fan/#42l-v8-5v-generic-scan-tool-engine-codes-bnk__engine-control-module-ecm-j623) .

Assembly is performed in reverse order of removal. Note the following

  1. Install lock carrier with attachments. --> «50 - BODY - FRONT»(/audi/a6/6-2004-2008/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#body-exterior) .

Final procedures

After repair work, the following work steps must be performed in the mentioned sequence

  1. Check DTC memory..
  2. If necessary, erase DTC memory..
  3. If DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code..
  1. End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
