Vehicles Equipped with a Mount for a DVD Player

1. The guide mounts -1- and -3- on the backrest must free of contaminants.

Align the backrest cover and install the guides into the mounts.

1. The guides -1- and -3- can be installed in only one position.
2. The release buttons must face outside.

Install the trim -2-.

1. The trim can be installed in only one position.

Note. Ignore the -arrow- in this reference.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Disengage the side airbag from the backrest frame using the hook and out of the pocket sewn in the cover and install it again in the backrest frame.

Versions with Power Seats

Disengage the side airbag from the backrest frame using the hook and leave it in the pocket sewn in the cover.

Equipment Versions with Lumbar Support (not Comfort Seat)

Separate the upholstery from the Velcro fastener -3- on the lumbar support -2- otherwise the lumbar support will be damaged when removing the hooks -arrows-.

All Vehicles

Remove the cover and cushion from the backrest frame while guiding the side airbag wiring harness.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Carefully loosen the top and bottom of the backrest heating element -C- and -D- and remove.

Note. The spacer fabric must not be damaged. The heating elements -A- and -B- remain on the backrest bolsters and the new backrest heating element is bonded over them.

Align the new backrest heating element on the upholstery -1-.

Bond the individual areas of the heating element in the sequence -A-, -B-, -C- and -D-.

Route the connecting wires to the individual heating surfaces in the base of the gaps -arrows-.

Pull the wire -3- through the slit in the upholstery.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

BACKREST HEATING ELEMENT, SPORT SEAT

Removing and installing a standard front seat is described. The procedure is similar for a sport front seat.

Remove cover and cushion from backrest, refer to BACKREST COVER AND UPHOLSTERY .

Disconnect cover from upholstery BACKREST COVER AND UPHOLSTERY, SEPARATING AND CONNECTING .

Cut the wire -3- off directly at the old backrest heating element -2-.

Note. The old backrest heating element remains on the upholstery -1- and the new backrest heating element is bonded over it.

Align the new backrest heating element on the upholstery.

Bond the individual areas of the heating element in the sequence -A-, -B- and -C-.

Route the connecting wires to the individual heating surfaces in the base of the gaps -arrow-.

Pull the wire -3- through the slit in the upholstery -1-.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

Remove the seat pan SEAT PAN .

Detach Velcro™ fastener -2-.

Pry the retaining strip at the edge of seat cover -3- out from around the guide on the seat pan.

Detach rear retaining strip -1- at the seat pan.

Detach retaining strip -1- from the holders -arrow- at the seat pan cushion and detach Velcro™ fastener -3- at seat pan cushion -2-.

Remove the seat pan cover.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Remove the backrest FRONT BACKREST .

Remove the outer belt guide parts SEAT BELT GUIDE .

Starting at the bottom, pry the grip channel for the backrest cover out of the guide at the backrest, using for example, an awl -arrow- ; lightly press together the backrest upholstery in order to release the strain on the backrest cover.

Pry the retaining strip at the edge of the backrest cover out from around the guide on the backrest.

1. In the bends, the grip channel is also secured by clips. Carefully remove the clips.

Pull out lower retaining strip -2- on module carrier -1-.

Scheme 402

Detach retaining strip -1- from the holders -arrow- at the backrest cushion and detach Velcro™ fastener -3- at backrest cushion -2-.

Remove the backrest cover.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Remove the backrest cushion and place on a soft surface BUCKET SEAT BACKREST COVER AND PADDING OVERVIEW .

Note. The electrical wiring harness for the module carrier must not be disconnected from the seat pan.

Disconnect the electrical harness connector for the backrest heating element.

Cut electrical wire -6- off directly at the old seat heating element -arrow-.

Note. The old seat heating element remains on the upholstery and the new seat heating element is bonded over it.

Remove the old electrical connection wire.

Disconnect electrical connecting wires -5- and -7- to the heating elements at the backrest bolsters.

Align the new heating elements on the backrest surface.

Remove the protective film and adhere new heating elements -1, 2, 3, 4- to the same positions as the old heating elements.

Run connecting wires -A- loosely to the upper backrest heating element along the bottom of the gaps.

Run the connecting wires loosely to the backrest bolsters along the bottom of the gaps.

Scheme 404

Remove the backrest cover BUCKET SEAT BACKREST COVER .

Tilt the backrest bolster inward -arrow A- and detach backrest bolster inflation adjuster -1- at retaining bracket -3- of the backrest -arrow B-.

Expose pneumatic hose -2- for backrest bolster inflation adjustment at the backrest shell. Remove adhesive tape -1- for this purpose.

Scheme 405

Disconnect the pneumatic hose at Y-Connector -3- and expose it on the left side. Remove adhesive tape -4- for this purpose.

Remove the backrest cushion with the backrest bolster inflation adjuster from the backrest shell.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Remove the seat pan cushion BUCKET SEAT COVER .

Cut electrical wire -5- off directly at the old seat heating element -arrow-.

Note. The old seat heating element remains on the upholstery and the new seat heating element is bonded over it.

Remove the old electrical connection wire.

Align the new heating elements on the seat surface.

Conduct the electrical connection wire down through the opening provided in the seat cushion.

Remove the protective film and adhere new heating elements -1, 2, 3, 4, 6- to the same positions as the old heating elements.

Run connecting wires -A- loosely to the seat bolsters along the bottom of the gaps.

Open the side locks -arrows- on the cover -1-.

Slide the trim removal wedge 3409 or a flat-head screwdriver in the direction of -arrow A- between the cover lock -1-.

Bend the lower U-Channel -3- in the direction of -arrow B-.

Pull the upper side of the cover with the flat channel -2- out of the U-Channel -3-.

Main Lock, Opening

Slide the trim removal wedge 3409 or a flat-head screwdriver between the cover lock.

Bend the lower U-Channel -1- in the direction of -arrow A-.

Pull the upper side of the cover with the flat channel -2- out of the U-Channel -1-.

Note. The cover must be completely open to remove the upholstery.

Remove the padding -1- from the cover -2-.

Closing the side locks is similar to the closing the main lock.

Using a needle or a tool with a point, align the cover and the channels.

Make sure the cover lies on the upholstery without any wrinkles and without seam markings.

With manual headrests, install the height adjustment release button.

Insert the release button through the cover and the upholstery into the headrest support.

Be careful of the release button/headrest support locking device.

The tab -arrow A- on the release button -1- must align with the slit -arrow B- in the button mount on the headrest support -2-.

Remove the sill side trim retaining bracket.

Remove the seat depth adjuster as far as the stop.

Unclip the catches -2-.

Bend the leg spring -2- up slightly using a wide screwdriver.

Pull the trim -1- up at one side at the same time until it disengages on one side.

Perform the same step on the other side.

Remove the trim -1- while bending the leg spring -2- up.

Open the locking channel -1- and -2-.

Remove the cover -3- from the support with the upholstery.

Install cover -1-.

Position the cover -1- and slide it over the support with upholstery -2-.
