INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

WARNINGThe glass in the interior rearview mirror consists of several layers and contains an electrolyte that controls the dimming. Be careful of the electrolyte, which can leak out if the mirror glass is broken. Liquid electrolyte can cause irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory system. If the liquid electrolyte comes in contact with eyes or skin, flush or rinse immediately with plenty of water. If irritation continues, see a doctor.
CAUTIONElectrolyte leaking from a broken mirror will damage all plastic surfaces that come into contact with it. Clean spilled electrolyte immediately using water a sponge.

AUTOMATIC DIMMING FUNCTION, SWITCHING ON AND OFF

By briefly pressing the button -1- (less then 3 seconds), the automatic dimming function is switched on or off automatically.

Scheme 4: AUTOMATIC DIMMING FUNCTION, SWITCHING ON AND OFF

Automatic dimming "ON" : the lamp in the display -2- comes on.

Automatic dimming "OFF" : the lamp in the display -2- goes out.

  1. Automatic dimming function is activated each time "ignition is switched on".
  2. If the automatic dimming function is deactivated, the function is also deactivated on the exterior rearview mirror.
  3. In dimming mode, mirror surface lights up when interior lights are switched on or reverse gear is engaged.
  4. Note that the interior rearview mirror automatic dimming function can only work properly if the rear window sun shade is raised.

AUTOMATIC DIMMING INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR, ADJUSTING

It is necessary to set RHD or LHD when

  1. A new automatic dimming interior rearview mirror -Y7- is installed.

Note. In the newer automatic day/night interior rearview mirrors -Y7-, the zone sensor has been moved from the mirror base to the mirror housing. The steering side "must" only be set with these mirrors. To recognize the new automatic day/night interior mirror -Y7-, press the button -2- longer than 12 seconds; an "L" or an "A" will appear.

Press button -2- for 12 to 15 seconds until "L" appears - for LHD.

Press the button again; the drive side will be changed.

The display switches automatically to "C - for calibrate" after a short time. The digital compass must now be calibrated. Refer to DIGITAL COMPASS, CALIBRATING .

The interior rearview mirror automatic dimming function is reactivated after the calibration is complete. To change refer to AUTOMATIC DIMMING FUNCTION, SWITCHING ON AND OFF .

AUTOMATIC DIMMING INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR, CHECKING FUNCTION

To check function, following conditions must be fulfilled

  1. Interior rearview mirror installed
  2. Ignition switched on
  3. Reverse gear not engaged
  4. Automatic-dimming function must be turned on, indicator light must come on
  5. Doors and glove compartment closed
  6. Interior light off

Cover photo sensor -arrow- on the housing side -1-.

Shine a light source, such as a flashlight, on the mirror side of the photosensor -2-.

  1. The interior rearview mirror must dim within a short period of time.

COMPASS DISPLAY, SWITCHING ON AND OFF

Press the button -2- 3 to 6 seconds. The compass display -1- changes from "ON" to "OFF" and vice versa.

DIGITAL COMPASS, CALIBRATING

It is Necessary to Calibrate the Digital Compass if

  1. Compass directions are not correct
  2. The letter "C" instead of a direction will appear or the display will be blank
  3. A new Automatic Dimming Interior Rearview Mirror -Y7- is installed

The Digital Compass May Also Need to be Calibrated if

  1. The vehicle battery was reconnected after being disconnected for an extended period
  2. A new audio system or audio system component was installed

Digital Compass, Calibrating

Switch on ignition

  1. The letter "C" must appear in the display -1

If the letter "C" does not appear, press the button -2- for 9 to 12 seconds until the "C" appears in the compass display.

Drive in a circle two to three times at about 10 km/h (5 mph) until a direction is shown in the compass display.

The interior rearview mirror automatic dimming function is reactivated after the calibration is complete. Ensure the interior rearview mirror automatic dimming function is activated. Refer to AUTOMATIC DIMMING FUNCTION, SWITCHING ON AND OFF .

MAGNETIC ZONE, SETTING

It is Necessary to Set the Magnetic Zone if

  1. A new Automatic Dimming Interior Rearview Mirror -Y7- is installed
  2. The vehicle is driven a long distance over more than two zones from the originally set zone

Magnetic Zone, Setting

Press the button -2- for 6 to 9 seconds until a "Z" and a magnetic zone number appear.

Repeatedly press the button -2- until the number of the desired zone appears.

Read desired magnetic zone on the world map

  1. North America «MAGNETIC ZONE, READING»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/seats/#interior-equipment-coupe__magnetic-zone-reading) .

After a few seconds, the compass display switches from the zone number to the direction.

The interior rearview mirror automatic dimming function is reactivated after the magnetic zone is set. Make sure the interior rearview mirror automatic dimming function is reactivated. Refer to COMPASS DISPLAY, SWITCHING ON AND OFF .

DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER OVERVIEW

Note. The driver side instrument panel cover on a vehicle without a knee airbag is shown in the illustration. For vehicles with a knee bag, refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER WITH KNEE AIRBAG .

Remove the center console insert. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE INSERT

Remove the front ashtray. Refer to FRONT ASHTRAY

Vehicles with a 12V outlet: disconnect the connector -2-.

Remove the bolts -1- and -3-.

Vehicles with a front center armrest: remove the front center armrest. Refer to FRONT CENTER ARMREST .

Vehicles without a front center armrest: remove center console cover and nuts. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE COVER -1

Vehicles with a telephone/cell phone: disconnect the connectors.

Lift the center console and remove it back out of the instrument panel and over the selector lever/shift lever.

INSTALLING

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Make sure the center console is flush with the instrument panel.

Remove the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .

Vehicles with an access/start authorization antenna: interior access/start authorization antenna 1 -R138-. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .

Remove nuts -3- and -4-.

Disengage the bracket -5- at the tabs -1- and -2- and remove.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Carefully unclip the cover -1- using a small screwdriver beginning at the bottom -arrows-.

Tilt the trim upward and remove it from the center console.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Insert the cover at the top, tilt it down and clip it in.

Press the center console cover onto the center console until it engages audibly.

Versions with a selector lever: move the selector into "S".

Turn off the ignition.

Remove the Climatronic Control Module -J255- [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .

Carefully pry out the selector lever/shift lever boot at the side using a trim removal wedge 3409 or small screwdriver -arrows- and fold it upward.

Tape off the center console trim panel all around the center console insert using adhesive tape to avoid damaging the surface.

CAUTIONPulling up with too much force on the center console insert will damage the Access/Start Authorization Button -E408- because the wire for the button is very short. Carefully loosen the insert and lift it up.

Reach with the hand under the center console insert -arrow A- and carefully remove it upward from the center console -arrow B-.

Disconnect the connectors and carefully remove the center console insert over the selector lever/gearshift lever.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Press the center console insert in until it engages audibly.

CENTER CONSOLE REAR STORAGE COMPARTMENT

Carefully remove lining mat -1- from the retaining studs -arrows-.

Mount the hook 3438 into the lower holes in the storage compartment and at the same time push the trim removal wedge 3409 into the gap between the storage compartment and the center console.

Disengage the storage compartment all the way around and remove it.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Insert the lower storage compartment, tilt it upward and press it into the installation opening as far as the stop.

Remove center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .

Remove the bolts -1 through 8- and the center console trim panel -9-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Attach the felt strip (45X8 mm) on both sides -2- with the distance -a- to the edge of the decorative panel -1- for the center console.

  1. Dimension -a- = 7 mm.

Tighten the bolts in a -1 to 8- sequence.

Remove the bolts -2 through 9- and remove the cupholder -1- downward.

Vehicles with converter with socket, 12 V-230 V -U13- : Remove the bolts -arrows-, remove the converter with socket -item 1- from the cupholder -2-.

Remove the center console insert. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE INSERT .

Remove the bolts -4- and -5-.

Remove the ashtray -1- back from the mount -2- and disconnect the cigarette lighter electrical connector.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Insert the front ashtray -1- with the rubber grommet -3- in the mount -2-.

Remove the front ashtray. Refer to FRONT ASHTRAY .

Open the ashtray cover.

Using a small screwdriver, lift the retainers -2- on the bottom side.

Remove the trim -1- from the ashtray cover by pressing the trim in the direction of the -arrow-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

REMOVING

Open the rear ashtray.

Press the trim -1- down and remove the rear ashtray -2-.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Vehicles with a storage compartment: remove the rear storage compartment inside the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE REAR STORAGE COMPARTMENT .

Vehicles with vents: remove the rear vent. Refer to REAR VENT .

Remove the bolt -2-.

Carefully unclip the trim -3- using a small screwdriver beginning at the bottom -arrows-.

Tilt the trim upward while releasing the retaining tab -1- and removing from the center console.

Disconnect the electrical connectors, if applicable.

Vehicles with converter with socket, 12 V-230 V -U13- : release the tabs -arrows 1- and remove the 230 V socket -arrow 2-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Insert the trim at the top, tilt it down and clip it in.

Press the center console rear trim onto the center console until it engages audibly.

REAR VENT

Note. The vent has a hole on both sides for attaching the hook 3438.

Alternating between the sides, carefully remove the vent -1- from the installation opening using the hook 3438.

Vehicles with illumination: disconnect the connector.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

When sliding the vent into the center console, make sure the air duct engages correctly.

Insert the lower vent, tilt it upward and press it into the installation opening as far as the stop.

Remove center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE .

Remove the bolts -2 through 5- and remove the storage compartment -1- downward.

Vehicles with a telephone/cell phone: remove the telephone/cell phone. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .

Install in reverse order of removal.

Remove the rear center console trim. Refer to REAR CENTER CONSOLE TRIM .

Vehicles with a rear vent: remove the rear vent. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Removal and Installation .

Vehicles equipped with a telephone/cell phone: expose the electrical connectors on the bracket.

Remove bolts -1, 2, 4-.

Remove nuts -3- and -5-.

Disengage the top of the center console on the armrest support base by lifting the center console.

Pull the armrest support base upward. Guide it over the threaded pins and remove it toward the back.

Install in reverse order of removal.

FRONT CENTER ARMREST UPHOLSTERY

Carefully unclip the cover -1- from the upholstery -arrow- using the trim removal wedge 3409.

Remove the bolts -1- and the upholstery -2- upward from the hinge arm -arrow-.

Engage the upholstery on the hinge arm and tighten the bolts.

Press the cover on until it engages audibly.

Carefully unclip the upper trim -1- from the hinge arm and from the lower trim -arrows- using a small screwdriver.

Remove the rear center console trim. Refer to REAR CENTER CONSOLE TRIM .

Pay attention to the safety precautions when removing or installing an interior rearview mirror. Refer to INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS and to the General Information INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR GENERAL INFORMATION .

Remove the lower cover -1- -arrows-.

Using a screwdriver, unclip and remove the lower cover.

Remove the mirror base cover -1- using a screwdriver.

Remove the electrical connector from its retainer.

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

Turn the interior rearview mirror counterclockwise -arrow- on the mirror base -1- as far as the stop.

Remove the interior rearview mirror from the retaining plate.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Position the interior rearview mirror turned 30° from its installation position.

Then turn the interior rearview mirror clockwise as far as the stop.

DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER

Remove the side cover on the driver side instrument panel INSTRUMENT PANEL SIDE COVER .

Remove the side bolt -1-.

Remove the lower bolts -3-.

Unclip the top edge of the driver side instrument panel cover -2- from the instrument panel -arrows- using a trim removal wedge 3409.

Unclip the 16-pin connector -T16- (Data Link Connector).

If the vehicle has footwell lamps: disconnect the connector

Disconnect the driver side instrument panel cover.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Install the lower instrument panel cover -1- into the clips -3- on the footrest and into the clips -2- on the A/C unit -arrows-.

Remove the side cover on the driver side instrument panel INSTRUMENT PANEL SIDE COVER .

Remove the side bolt -1-.

Remove the lower bolts -3- and -4-.

Unclip the top edge of the driver side instrument panel cover -2- from the instrument panel -arrows- using a trim removal wedge 3409.

Unclip the 16-pin connector -T16- (Data Link Connector).

If the vehicle has footwell lamps: disconnect the connector

Disconnect the driver side instrument panel cover.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Install the lower instrument panel cover -1- into the clips -3- on the footrest and into the clips -2- on the A/C unit -arrows-.

WARNINGOn vehicles with the front passenger airbag -off- key switch -E224-, follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

Turn on the ignition.

Turn on the ignition and disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Battery, Starter, Generator, Cruise Control .

Vehicles with a storage compartment inside the glove compartment: Release the tabs on the left and right sides with a screwdriver -arrow- and then remove the storage compartment from the glove compartment.

Remove the glove compartment far enough so the electrical harness connector on the central connector can be disconnected.

WARNINGOn vehicles with the front passenger airbag -off- key switch -E224-, follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Press the electrical connector together until it engages audibly.

WARNINGConnect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Connect the battery ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Battery, Starter, Generator, Cruise Control .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again => .

Remove the passenger knee airbag FRONT PASSENGER KNEE AIRBAG IGNITER -N296 .

Vehicles with a storage compartment inside the glove compartment: Release the tabs on the left and right sides with a screwdriver -arrow- and then remove the storage compartment from the glove compartment.

Vehicles with a CD player: remove the CD player. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Communication .

Remove the upper diagonal bolt -1- and the right bolt -2-.

Remove the side cover on the passenger side instrument panel INSTRUMENT PANEL SIDE COVER .

Remove the glove compartment far enough so the electrical harness connector on the central connector can be disconnected.

Remove the glove compartment GLOVE COMPARTMENT .

Remove the hinge pin from the brake component GLOVE COMPARTMENT COVER BRAKE COMPONENT .

Set the glove compartment down with the top side on a soft surface.

Drive the left and right hinge pins out using a 4 mm hex socket wrench -1- (or another suitable tool) -arrow-.

Remove glove compartment cover -2- from the glove compartment.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Switch the ignition off and remove the ignition key.

Remove the side cover on the passenger side instrument panel INSTRUMENT PANEL SIDE COVER .

Detach the fuse panel on the right fuse panel and push it to the side [For engine(s) CAUA, CAEB, CALA] Wiring .

Disconnect the connector -3-.

Remove hinge pins -1-.

Release the switch -2- by turning counterclockwise -arrow- and remove it.

Install in reverse order of removal.

GLOVE COMPARTMENT OPENER

Release the glove compartment opener retaining hooks using a locking pin T40011 through the opening -arrow- on the side of the glove compartment cover.

Release the second retaining hook -1- on the side of the glove compartment opener at the same time using a screwdriver.

Move the steering wheel as far down as possible.

Unclip the instrument panel gap cover -1- from the instrument panel -A arrows- using a trim removal wedge 3409.

Using a small flat-head screwdriver, carefully unclip the gap cover from the upper steering column switch module trim -arrow B-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Press the gap cover on until the clips engage completely in the mounting points.

Unclip instrument panel cover -1- on the passenger side from the glove compartment -arrow- and remove it.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Press the passenger side instrument panel cover on until it engages audibly.

Move the steering wheel as far down as possible.

Using a small flat-head screwdriver, carefully unclip gap cover -2- from upper steering column switch module trim -1- -arrow A-.

Rotate the steering wheel 90° out of the straight position.

Carefully pry the upper steering column switch module trim off of lower trim -3- using a small flat-head screwdriver -B arrows-.

Disengage the upper steering column switch module trim from the lower trim and remove it.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Engage the upper trim -1- in the lower trim -A arrows-.

Ensure the lower trim pins engage in the opening at the upper trim retaining tab -B arrows-.

Remove the upper steering column switch module trim STEERING COLUMN SWITCH MODULE UPPER TRIM PANEL .

Rotate the steering wheel 90° out of the straight position.

Remove the bolts -1- and -2-.

Note. If bolts -1- and -2- are not accessible, steering wheel must be removed for further work Steering .

Remove screw -4- and lower steering column switch module trim -3-.

Install in reverse order of removal.
