Preliminary work for adjusting lengthwise and toward the vehicle center

Driver side

Remove the instrument panel cover on the driver side. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the lower A-pillar trim. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the driver side relay carrier mount REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Passenger side

Remove the glove compartment. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Procedure for both sides

Remove the A-pillar connector station REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Loosen the bolts -B arrows- on the top and bottom of the hinge and on the A-pillar -item 1-.

Adjust the door -2- lengthwise.

Tighten the bolts -B arrows-.

2. Adjustment to center of vehicle

Note. The bolt -A- is a fitting bolt so it is generally not necessary to adjust the door using it. If it is necessary to make an adjustment using these bolts, the bolt can be replaced with one of the same length and strength category.

Loosen the bolts -A arrows- on the top and bottom of the hinge.

Adjust the door -2- lengthwise.

Tighten the bolts -A arrows-.

Note. The striker pin backing must be position with the pins -arrows- exactly in the hole. The striker pins must be sheared off cleanly after sliding the striker pin.

Loosen the bolts -2-.

Slide the striker pin -1- until the door is flush with the body contours.

Note. When adjusting the striker pin, move it only toward the center of the vehicle. Do not adjust the door height using the striker pin because the door lock will be damaged.

Striker pin must align in door lock center for correct adjustment.

Tighten the bolts -2-.

Scheme 155: Inner Door Panel Cover, Removing and Installing

Remove the door trim panel. Refer to. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the wiring harness -5- from the bracket -4-.

Remove the inner door panel cover -3- beginning at the top -arrow-.

Disengage the rubber grommet -1- for the inside door release mechanism cable -2- from the inner door panel cover.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Remove the inner door panel cover.

  1. The inner door panel cover must be flush.

CENTRAL LOCKING, SERVICING

Note. Central locking functions electronically. The adjusters in the doors are integrated inside the door lock and have 2 motors. The adjusters cannot be replaced separately. The first motor locks the door and the second motor locks the interior door mechanism (Safe function). The door can no longer be opened from the inside. The central locking control module will unlock any locked doors if there is a crash and the air bag deploys. The central locking control module is located inside the right rear side panel.

Proceed as follows

Disconnect the door connector on the A-pillar. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the door arrester bolt -2-.

Remove the cover caps -1- and -3- from the stud bolts.

Remove the stud bolts -4- on the upper and lower door hinge.

CAUTIONThere is a risk of damaging the paint. Protect the painted surfaces on the door or on the side panel from damage.

Carefully remove the door upward out of the door hinges.

INSTALLING

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «FRONT DOOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system-coupe) .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Note. Do not make any adjustments after installing the door.

Move the door window into the "closed" position.

Remove the door trim panel. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the lower speaker REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the door arrester bolt -arrow-.

Remove the door arrester seal -1- on the door opening.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Install the lower speaker. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

OUTER WINDOW SHAFT STRIP

REMOVING

Open the door window completely.

Before the window shaft strip -1- can be removed, first disconnect it from the door hooks (quantity: 5) -arrows- -2-.

Insert the removal hook T40219 between the door window and the window shaft strip near the B-pillar.

Slide the removal hook T40219 forward on the B-pillar starting at the specified dimensions up to the first catch and release the window shaft strip on the side in direction of arrow.

Move the removal hook T40219 to the next catch and release the window shaft strip.

Note. The measurements refer from the end of the window shaft strip to the B-pillar.

  1. Dimension -a- = 40 mm
  2. Dimension -b- = 260 mm

  4. Dimension -d- = 740 mm
  5. Dimension -e- = 960 mm

Release the window shaft strip -2- completely in steps and then pull it upward off the door flange -1-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

WARNINGDo not pry open the hooks on the outer door panel, if necessary they must be bent back into their original shape.

Beginning at the A-pillar, press the window shaft strip completely into the retaining hooks in the door.

Install exterior mirror. Refer to EXTERIOR MIRROR - VEHICLES THROUGH MAY 2009 .

Scheme 172: INNER DOOR SEAL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
  1. Lower door seal Before removing, remove sill panel trim and A-pillar trim panel. Refer to «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-coupe) . Remove the rear side trim panel near the door seal, refer to «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-coupe) -- Remove the lower door seal from the body flange and under the upper door seal. -- When installing the front and rear door seal, first slide it under the upper door seal and then press it onto the body flange.
  2. Upper door seal Loosen the rear side trim panel and B-pillar trim near the door seal, i.e. unclip. Refer to «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-coupe) . Remove the top of the A-pillar. Refer to «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-coupe) . -- Remove the upper door seal on the A-pillar and B-pillar, then pull it off the body flange.
  3. Sill panel cover Removed, refer to «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-coupe) .
  4. Headliner Pull downward around the upper door seal
  5. Upper B-pillar Removed, refer to «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim-coupe) .

Scheme 173: OUTER DOOR SEAL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING

Proceed as follows

Remove the door trim panel. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the door window. Refer to DOOR WINDOW .

Remove the outer window shaft strip -3- OUTER WINDOW SHAFT STRIP .

Remove the door shell cover INNER DOOR PANEL COVER .

Remove the bass speaker REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the retaining studs -1, 2 and 4- from the door shell.

Reach through the openings and carefully press the retaining springs -arrows- in the door seal and inner window shaft strip clips -5- from inside to outside.

Remove the door seal and inner window shaft strip -1- all around -arrow A-.

Remove the retaining studs from the door shell in the exterior mirror area.

Remove the window guide wires -4- from the window guide.

Remove the exterior mirror housing -2- upward from the door shell -3- -arrow B-.

Scheme 175: INSTALLING

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Install the door seal and inner window shaft seal in the sequence -A to D- as shown in the illustration while following the procedure below

Position the molded piece on the B-pillar while sliding the rubber tabs -2- and -3- into the door shell -arrows- and pressing the retaining studs -1- and -4- on completely.

Slide window guide wires -8- in the window guide.

In order to remove front exterior mirror housing from the door shell, position the slot -5- on the inside of the outer door panel -7- -arrow-. Press the retaining studs -6- on completely.

Slide the inner window shaft strip onto the door fold.

Position the door seal on the door shell and press the clips on until they engage audibly.

Install the bass speaker. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Install the door shell cover INNER DOOR PANEL COVER .

Install the outer window shaft strip OUTER WINDOW SHAFT STRIP .

Install the door window DOOR WINDOW .

Install the door trim panel. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Proceed as follows

Note. The window regulator motor can be removed or installed with the motor or door window in any position.

Remove the door trim panel. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Disconnect the electrical connector -2- on the door control module.

Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the window regulator motor -2- from the window regulator.

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR AND WINDOW REGULATOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system-coupe) .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

  1. The clips -3- for the window regulator motor threaded pins -2- must be engaged in the inner door panel.

Slide the window regulator motor -1- onto the threaded pins and tighten the bolts -4-.

Note. With the window regulator motor switches connected, switch the ignition on and run the door windows up to the stop. Continue holding the window regulator switch for approximately 2 seconds so the basic setting and one-touch up/down function are activated.

Proceed as follows

Remove the door trim panel. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Remove the wiring harness -5- from the bracket -4-.

Remove the door shell cover -3- beginning at the top -arrow-.

Disengage the rubber grommet -1- for the inside door release mechanism cable -2- from the door shell cover.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Press the door shell cover on.

  1. The door shell cover must be flush.

Proceed as follows

Window regulator motor, removing, refer to WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR .

Remove the door window. Refer to DOOR WINDOW .

Remove the bass speaker. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Release the clips -5- on the window regulator threaded pins -6- using an 11 mm socket by sliding the socking onto the threaded pins.

Disengage the cable -2- upward from the cable guide -1- on the inside.

Unclip the cable -3- from the cable guide -1- and the bracket -4- on the inside.

Remove the sealing plugs -1, 2 and 4-.

Remove the nuts -5- while counterholding at the door window adjustment threaded pin -6-.

Guide the window regulator back out of the opening.

Press the door seal to the side and remove the protective film over the hole -arrow A-.

Remove the locking bolt -4- as far as the stop using a screwdriver -1-.

Press the lock cylinder retaining bracket -3- inward.

Note. If the lock cylinder cannot be pressed out, slide the key into it and remove it with the key turned slightly.

Spread the clips -arrows- and remove the cover cap -1- from the lock cylinder -2- using an awl if necessary.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Install the lock cylinder. Refer to LOCK CYLINDER .

Proceed as follows

Press the door seal to the side and remove the protective film over the hole -arrow A-.

Remove the locking bolt -4- as far as the stop using a screwdriver -1-.

Pull the outer door handle outward and hold it in the "opened" position.

Press the lock cylinder retaining bracket -3- inward. The outer door handle is secured in the "opened" position.

Remove the lock cylinder -2- from the mounting bracket -arrow B-.

Note. If the lock cylinder cannot be pressed out, slide the key into it and remove it with the key turned slightly.

Pull the outer door handle -1- in the -direction of the arrow-. This disengages the handle from the operating lever in the mounting bracket.

Remove the door shell cover INNER DOOR PANEL COVER .

Turn the actuating link on the lever -1- 90° in the -direction of arrow A- and remove it from the cable bracket -2-.

Rotate the actuating link on the door lock operating lever -3- in the -direction of arrow B-.

  1. The actuating link must be aligned with the opening on the operating lever.

Disengage the actuating link from the operating lever.

Remove the outside door handle. Refer to OUTER DOOR HANDLE .

Remove the lock cylinder guide. Refer to LOCK CYLINDER GUIDE .

Disengage the electrical wire on the mounting bracket -arrow- if applicable.

Free up the electrical wire spiral clip -1- using the pry lever 80 - 200.

Installing: -- Guide cable through opening in fuel filler door cup. -- Insert fuel filler door diagonally until catches on protruding flange engage in side panel. -- Bolt the door and the door release motor together using the bolt -4-.
