10. Underbody Impact Guard Bumper cover removed. Remove the screws -12- and the screw -11- and remove the impact guard forward from the front spoiler and the end panel.

FRONT SPOILER EXPANDING CLIP

Press the left and right clamping pin -3- upward through the expanding clip on the front spoiler -2-.

Remove the expanding clip from the front spoiler -2- and then remove the bumper cover -1-.

Secure the expanding clip with the clamping pin.

Scheme 123

Insert a small screwdriver into the opening on the air intake grille as illustrated.

Release the catches on the air intake grille and pull it forward.

Bumper cover removed.

Remove the screws -arrow -a-.

Release the catches from the outside toward the inside and remove the spoiler or the radiator grille.

Bumper removed.

Remove the screws -arrows- on the radiator grille and pull the grilled out of the spoiler and the side panels.

Removing the lock carrier cover, refer to LOCK CARRIER COVER .

If the gap dimension is not even, position the wrench on the adjusting bolt -1- and adjust the gap dimension for the front bumper cover -2-.

Check the gap dimension again and repeat the adjustment if necessary.

Scheme 130

1. Spoiler First remove the left and right expanding clips before removing the spoiler. This differs from the standard bumper, refer to «Removing the expanding clips»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-avant__removing-the-expanding-clips). Bumper cover removed. -- Release the hooks all the way around in steps and remove the cover toward the rear. -- Make sure the hooks engage completely into the cover when installing.
2. Bumper Cover When installing the old bumper cover, the old support -7- remains installed. -- A new support must be installed when replacing the bumper cover (Scheme 133) Removal is the same as for the spoiler.

REMOVING THE EXPANDING CLIPS

Press the left and right clamping pin -3- upward through the expanding clip on the spoiler -2-.

Remove the expanding clip from the spoiler -2- and then remove the bumper cover -1-.

Secure the expanding clip with the clamping pin.

Removing Hooks

Release the hooks, including the ones under the end panel -2- to remove the cover -1- or the spoiler -5-.

Scheme 131

Remove the screws -3-, release the hooks -arrows- and remove the impact guard -2- from the spoiler.

Scheme 132

Note. Support piece must be installed only with a new bumper cover.

To remove, press catch -arrow- to the side and pull support piece downward out of cover -1-.

Insert support piece -2- into cover as shown and let engage inside.

Disengaging cord must be removed only when the cover is installed completely.

When re-installing the old bumper cover, the old support piece remains installed.

When replacing the bumper cover, a new support piece must be clipped into the bumper cover from below.

After completely installing bumper cover, disengage support piece by pulling on disengaging cord -arrow-.

Note. By pulling disengaging cord, tension is released from support piece and reinforces the bumper cover against the crossmember.

Release the retaining hooks -A arrows- using a screwdriver.

Remove the air intake grille -1- from the lower part of the bumper cover -arrow B-.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

FRONT BUMPER COVER

Removing

Removing the lock carrier cover, refer to LOCK CARRIER COVER .

Disconnect the electrical connector -2- for the outside air temperature sensor -G17- and the electrical connector -1- for the front parking aid sensor.

Remove the bolt -3-.

Remove the bolt -2- and the quick-release coupling -1- on the front bumper noise insulation.

Remove wheel housing liner. Refer to FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .

Disengage the side walls on the front side panel and remove the bumper cover forward.

Installation

Using a screwdriver on the inner side, pry the spray nozzle cover -1- off the mount -2- -arrow B- and disengage it at the opposite side.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Press the spray nozzle cover on until it engages audibly.

IMPACT ABSORBER

Disconnect the front parking aid sensor electrical wiring harness -1- -arrow- if applicable.

Guide the impact absorber -2- out of the brackets -A- and remove it.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Install the front bumper cover, refer to FRONT BUMPER COVER .

IMPACT MEMBER

Remove front bumper cover. Refer to FRONT BUMPER COVER .

Disconnect the electrical connector -4- on the horns and free up the electrical wiring harness -3- on the horn bracket.

Free up the washer nozzle water drain hose by disconnecting the cable tie -1-.

Remove the bolts -arrows- and the bumper cover spacer -2-.

Remove the impact bar -5- from the mounts.

Note. Pry the impact bar out of the mounts if it is not easy to remove.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Install the front bumper cover. Refer to FRONT BUMPER COVER .

LEFT IMPACT BAR BRACKET

Remove the headlamp washer system spray nozzle. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Mark the installation position of the bracket to the lock carrier for installation later.

Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Remove the locating bolt -1-.

Tip the impact bar bracket -2- on the lock carrier out and remove it.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Tighten the impact bar bracket according to the marking made during removal.

Install the headlamp washer system spray nozzle. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the impact member. Refer to IMPACT MEMBER .

Install the front bumper cover. Refer to FRONT BUMPER COVER .

LOCK CARRIER COVER

Removing

Remove the expanding clip bolts -1, 2, 3 and 5-.

Lift the lock carrier cover -4- -arrow- and disengage it from the radiator grille.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Insert the lock carrier cover with the guide into the mounts on the radiator grille and into the bumper cover.

Insert the expanding clips and install the bolts as far as the stop.

RIGHT IMPACT BAR BRACKET

Removing

Remove front bumper cover. Refer to FRONT BUMPER COVER .

Remove the side impact bar. Refer to IMPACT MEMBER .

Mark the installation position of the bracket to the lock carrier for installation later.

Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Remove the locating bolt -1-.

Remove the impact bar bracket -2- on the lock carrier.

Installation

Tighten the impact bar bracket according to the marking made during removal.

Install the impact member. Refer to IMPACT MEMBER .

REAR BUMPER COVER

Removing

Remove the tail lamp assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Scheme 147

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the parking aid control module -J446- if applicable.

Free up the electrical wiring harness on the control module bracket -arrow- by disconnect the cable tie -2-.

Press the grommet -3- outward.

Remove the nut -3- from the threaded pin on the cover -1-.

Remove the bolts -1- on the lower bumper cover section.

Before the bumper cover can be pulled to the rear, remove the bolt -1- from the left and right guide piece -3-.

When installing, fold the hinge -2- on the guide piece forward -arrow- before inserting the bolt.

Remove the left and right bolts -1- on the front side of the bumper.

Release the catch for the bumper cover by removing the bolts -3- from the guide piece.

Disengage the left and right bumper cover on the side panel -arrow-.

Remove the bumper cover -2-. The parking aid sensor electrical wire must be guided out through the body opening.

Installation

When installing, the side catches on the guide piece -2- must engage completely into the bumper cover -1-.

Fold the hinge on the guide piece forward and insert the bolt. (Scheme 150)

Connect the electrical connector on the parking aid control module -J446- if applicable. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the tail lamp assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the electrical connector on the radio frequency controlled clock receiver -J489-.

Note. If the impact bar is replaced -3-, remove the radio frequency controlled clock receiver -J489-. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the bolts -1- by counterholding the nuts -2-.

Remove the impact bar -3-.

Installation
