Front seat rail front-cover, removing and installing

The following list pertains to (Scheme 2).

  1. Seat rail front-cover Removal Slide front seat -4- fully to the rear. Remove securing clips -2- (2x). Remove seat rail cover -1- (2x). Remove bolts -3- (2x).
  2. Securing clip (2x)
  3. Bolts (2x) Tightening torque 50 Nm.

  1. Seat rail rear-cover Removal Slide front seat -4- fully to the front. Remove securing clips -2- (4x). Remove seat rail cover -1- (2x). Remove bolt -3- (2x).

  1. Belt end fitting NOTE: With height-adjustable seat: Seat moved up completely. Removal Pull assembly cover -2- upward and remove it. Push belt end fitting -1- downward in direction of arrow and remove it.

Disconnecting harness connectors

The following list pertains to (Scheme 5).

  1. Front seat
  2. Connector for seat belt fasten sensor (black)
  3. Connector for heated seat (green)
  4. Connector for voltage supply (red)
  5. Connector for airbag (yellow)
  6. Coupling station cover Removal Tilt front seat -1- fully to the rear. Remove coupling station cover -6- upward. Press in tab on connector for airbag -5- on tunnel side and disconnect connector for airbag -5-. Press in tab on connector for voltage supply -4- on tunnel side and disconnect connector for voltage supply -4-. Press in tab on connector for heated seat -3- on tunnel side and disconnect connector for heated seat -3-. For vehicles with seat belt fasten sensor: Press in tab on connector for seat belt fasten sensor -2- on tunnel side and disconnect connector for seat belt fasten sensor -2-. Connect airbag adapter, see «VAS 6036 AIRBAG ADAPTER, CONNECTING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/seats/#seats-frames-except-cabriolet__vas-6036-airbag-adapter-connecting) Remove front seat -1-.

Note. Technician must be grounded before disconnecting ignition and ground wiring; touch door striker or body.

WARNINGVAS 6036 airbag adapter must remain connected to seat until the seat is installed again.
WARNINGDisconnect battery ground (GND) strap before working on electrical system.

  1. Connector for airbag (yellow) Connect connector for airbag (yellow) -1- to airbag adapter connector -2- of seat connector. If installed: Connect connector for voltage supply (red) of airbag adapter connector -3- to counterpart (red) -4- on seat connector.

  1. Press catch -3- on connector for side airbag -2- from counterpart -1- and remove it.
CAUTIONOn vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting the vehicle battery. Switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting the vehicle battery. See TELEMATICS .

Note. Observe safety precautions after connecting the battery. See BATTERY DISCONNECT PRECAUTIONS . If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75- signals a malfunction after installation, DTC memory must be checked and erased using VAS 5051 tester.

Front backrest, assembly overview

WARNINGFor vehicles with side airbags, observe safety precautions for side airbags. See appropriate Air Bag Restraint Systems article.

The following list pertains to (Scheme 9).

  1. Backrest Removal Remove seat. See «SEAT, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/seats/#seats-frames-except-cabriolet__seat-assembly-overview) Unclip seat rail panels on tunnel side -5-. Remove bolt -6-. Remove bolt -7-. Detach clip -8-. Remove tab -9- with clip. Remove side backrest panels on tunnel side -3-. Remove backrest adjusting wheel -10-. See «BACKREST ADJUSTMENT WHEEL, REMOVING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/seats/#seats-frames-except-cabriolet__backrest-adjustment-wheel-removing) . Release clips -11- (2x). Remove backrest panel on door sill side -4-. Disengage rubber strap on door sill side -12-. Disengage rubber strap on tunnel side -13-. Cut through cable tie for backrest cable using a diagonal cutter. Press in tab on connector for airbag -14- (orange) and remove it. Press in tab on connector for heated backrest -15- (black) and remove it. Slide backrest cable through seat pan. Remove bolt -16- (4x). Remove seat backrest -1-.

Note. If backrest adjusting wheel is seated too loosely after installation, replace backrest adjusting wheel.

Removing and installing backrest panel on tunnel side

  1. Removal Remove bolt -7-. Detach clip -8-. Remove tab -9- with clip. Remove side backrest panel on tunnel side -3-.

Removing and installing backrest panel on door sill side

  1. Removal Remove backrest adjusting wheel -10-. See «BACKREST ADJUSTMENT WHEEL, REMOVING»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/seats/#seats-frames-except-cabriolet__backrest-adjustment-wheel-removing) . Release clips -11- (2x). Remove backrest panel on door sill side -4-.

Backrest adjustment wheel, removing

  1. Turn adjusting wheel -1- from behind until you can see one of the adjusting wheel catches (direction of -arrow A-). If necessary, use a flashlight.
  2. Engage special tool 3399 -2- and lever in direction of -arrow B-.
  3. Turn adjusting wheel an additional 120°.
  4. Engage special tool 3399 -2- and lever in direction of -arrow B-.
  5. Remove adjusting wheel.

Seat cushion extension (sport seat), assembly overview

The following list pertains to (Scheme 11).

  1. Seat cushion extension Removal Remove seat. See «SEAT, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/seats/#seats-frames-except-cabriolet__seat-assembly-overview) Detach cover and cushion from seat pan. Detach seat cushion extension from cover and cushion. Installing Installation is the reverse of removal.

  1. To insert headrest -1-, press in button -2- to the first stage.
  2. To remove headrest -1-, press in button -2- up to stop.

Front seats (power seat with memory)

CAUTIONBefore beginning repairs on the electrical system
  1. Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.
  2. Switch the ignition off.
  3. Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.
  4. On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery. See «TELEMATICS»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/communication-devices/#navigation-system-except-cabriolet) .
  5. After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual.
  6. After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module. See «TELEMATICS»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/communication-devices/#navigation-system-except-cabriolet) .

  1. Front seat Removal Remove front seat rail covers. Note. If possible: Move seat fully upward. Illustration shows seat pan with cushion removed and without backrest.

The following list pertains to (Scheme 16).

  4. Upper seat pan frame Removing Remove bolts -3- (2x). Fold seat fully toward front. Remove bolts -1- (4x). Remove backrest with upper seat pan frame. With malfunctioning control module: Disconnect harness connector on motor for seat fore-aft adjustment. Supply motor for seat fore-aft adjustment with an external voltage source until bolts are visible. Remove bolts. Remove control module. The following list pertains to (Scheme 17).

  2. Motor for seat fore-aft adjustment With malfunctioning motor for seat fore-aft adjustment: Disconnect connector -3-. Remove bolts -4- (2x), at seat fore-aft adjustment motor. Disengage seat fore-aft adjustment motor -2- from both shafts -1- and -5-. Using a cordless drill and long shaft -5-, move both seat rails by sliding until the concealed bolts are visible. Remove bolts. Replace lower seat frame with motor for seat fore-aft adjustment.

Note. Technician must be electrostatically discharged (grounded) before disconnecting ignition and ground wiring. Briefly touch door striker or body to discharge.

WARNINGVAS 6036 airbag adapter must remain connected to seat until the seat is installed again.
WARNINGDisconnect battery ground (GND) strap before working on electrical system.

The following list pertains to (Scheme 21).

  1. Seat connector for voltage supply (red)
  2. Seat connector for voltage supply (red)
  3. Airbag connector (yellow)
  4. Airbag adapter connector (yellow) Disconnect battery positive (B+) and Ground (GND) cables. Connect connector for airbag -3- to airbag adapter connector -4-. If installed: Connect seat connector for voltage supply -2- to seat connector for voltage supply -1-.

Side airbag connector, disconnecting

  1. Press catch -3- on airbag connector -2- from airbag adapter connector -1- and remove airbag connector -2-.

Note. After connecting battery cables, ensure that the vehicle accessories (radio, clock, power windows) are checked according to the repair manual and/or operating instructions. See BATTERY DISCONNECT PRECAUTIONS . Observe safety precautions after connecting the battery See BATTERY DISCONNECT PRECAUTIONS . If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75- signals a malfunction after installation, DTC memory must be interrogated, erased and once again interrogated using VAS 5051 tester.

Seat adjustment switch, removing and installing

Control module, removing and installing

Note. Control module for power seat with memory is located beneath driver's seat. With malfunctioning control module, the upper frame of seat pan with backrest must be removed. See SEAT WITH MALFUNCTIONING MOTOR FOR SEAT FORE-AFT ADJUSTMENT OR MALFUNCTIONING CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING .

  1. Remove seat. See «SEAT, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b6-2000-2006/remont/seats/#seats-frames-except-cabriolet) .
  2. Remove bolts -2- (2x). Tightening torque: 1.5 Nm
  3. Turn the control module -1- around.
  4. Disengage retaining bracket -4- and remove connector -5-.
  5. Press in catches -3- (2x) and remove connector -2-.
  6. Remove control module -1-.

Slide rear backrest -1- upward from brackets -2- at mounting holes -3-.

Seatbench, removing and installing

Note. The technical design of the rear Recaro seats is identical to the design of the rear seats with split rear backrest. The rear Recaro seats are distinguished only by covers and cushions from standard seats.
