Coat the plastic cap on the strut tube on the contact surface -arrow- with lubricant G 000 405 A2.
Note. After removing the spring clip and the spacer and lubricating the strut tube cap, make sure that the boot in the strut bearing is in the correct position as with the shock absorber tube.
BRAKE FLUID, CHECKING DEPENDING ON BRAKE PAD WEAR
| WARNING | Brake fluid is poisonous. Do not let brake fluid come in contact with the paint. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air, and must therefore always be stored in air-tight containers. |

Delivery Inspection

- Fluid level must be at MAX mark
Note. To prevent the brake fluid from overflowing from the reservoir, the level must not be over the MAX mark.
Inspection Service
When driving, fluid level drops slightly from use and automatic brake pad adjustment.
Always check fluid level in conjunction with brake pad wear
- When brake pads are new or if there is still enough brake lining left, the brake fluid level must be between MIN and MAX marks.
- With brake fluid at MIN mark or slightly above, topping off brake fluid is not necessary when wear limit of brake pads has been almost reached.
| WARNING | If brake fluid level is below MIN mark, check brake system (repair procedure), before adding brake fluid. |
BRAKE FLUID, CHANGING WITH V.A.G 1869

- Brake filling and bleeding tool V.A.G 1869
- Bleeder bottle
Note. The brake fluid level in the reservoir must be high enough so that air cannot get into the brake system. Do not remove the strainer inside the brake fluid reservoir. Follow V.A.G. 1869 operating instructions!

Open brake fluid reservoir.
Open bleeder screw on right rear brake caliper.
Prepare a suitable bleeder bottle to collect the used brake fluid.
Pump up brake fluid by pressing brake pedal with engine running until fluid reaches the level of the hose connector -arrow- on the reservoir.

Close bleeder screw.
On vehicles with automatic transmission, clutch slave cylinder must also be "flushed" with new brake fluid. Observe the following when doing so
Connect V.A.G 1869 but do not switch on.
Open clutch slave cylinder bleeder screw.
Connect the hose on the bleeder bottle to the clutch slave cylinder bleeder screw.
Now switch on bleeder unit and drain about 100 cm 3 brake fluid.
Close bleeder screw.
Sequence for changing brake fluid in brake calipers
1 -Left front brake caliper
2 - Right front brake caliper
3 - Left rear brake caliper
4 -Right rear brake caliper
Connect the bleeder hose from the bleeder bottle to the clutch slave cylinder bleeder screw on respective brake caliper.
Open bleeder screw and drain about 200 cm 3 brake fluid.
The used brake fluid is forced out of the system by pumping in new fluid.
Close bleeder screw.
Remove connector on brake fluid reservoir.
Check pedal pressure and brake pedal free play.
- Free play: max 1 / 3 of pedal travel
On road test, ensure at least one ABS-controlled braking incident is performed (pulsing on brake pedal must be felt).
BRAKE FLUID, CHANGING USING VAS 5234

- Brake filling and bleeding tool VAS 5234
- Bleeder bottle
Note. The brake fluid level in the reservoir must be high enough so that air cannot get into the brake system. Do not remove the strainer inside the brake fluid reservoir. Follow VAS 5234 operating instructions!
Remove brake fluid reservoir cap -1-.
Scheme 13
Use the hose from the VAS 5234 to extract as much brake fluid as possible.

Install adapter -1- to brake fluid reservoir.
Scheme 15
Connect filler hose -2- on VAS 5234 to adapter.
Manual Transmission
Pull cover cap off clutch slave cylinder bleed screw.
Place extractor bleeder hose -1- on clutch slave cylinder bleeder screw, open bleeder screw, and let about 100 ml drain out. Close bleeder screw and install cover cap.
Operate clutch pedal several times.
All Vehicles
Remove caps from the bleeder screws.
Connect extractor bleeder hose -1- to front left bleeder screw, open bleeder screw and allow about 200 ml to flow out. Close bleeder screw.
Repeat work sequence on other side of vehicle at front.
Connect extractor bleeder hose -1- to rear left bleeder screw, open bleeder screw and allow about 200 ml to flow out. Close bleeder screw.
Repeat procedure on opposite rear.
Install cover caps on brake caliper bleeder screws.
Move filler lever on VAS 5234 to position -B- (see operating instructions).
Remove the filler hose from the adapter.
Remove the adapter from the brake fluid reservoir.
Install the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Check brake fluid level and fill if necessary.
Check pedal pressure and brake pedal free play. Free play: max 1 / 3 of pedal travel
CONVERTIBLE END PANEL TOP, LUBRICATING
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Lint-free cloths
- Brush
- Lubricant G 060 751 A2 for the guide sleeve and the locking hook
Note. Paint brush (approximately 15 mm wide) (bend approximately 40°).

Clean and Coat Guide Sleeve
Scheme 16
Remove any remaining lubricant and contaminates from the guide sleeve with a lint-free cloth.
Apply the lubricant G 060 751 A2 with a commercially available paint brush in the marked positions -arrow- on the guide sleeve.
Remove the excess lubricant from the guide sleeve with a lint-free cloth.
Repeat the process for the opening on the opposite side of the vehicle.
Clean and Lubricate Locking Hook
Scheme 17
Remove any remaining lubricant and contaminates from the locking hooks with a lint-free cloth.
Apply the lubricant G 060 751 A2 with a commercially available paint brush in the marked positions -arrow- on the locking hooks.
Remove any excess lubricant from the locking hooks with a lint-free cloth.
Repeat the process for the opening on the opposite side of the vehicle.
FUEL FILTER, DRAINING
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Hand Vacuum Pump with accessories V.A.G. 1390
- Container V.A.G. 1390/1
Remove bolt from drain pipe -1-.
Connect V.A.G 1390/1 to connection.
Extract about 100 ml of diesel fuel using the V.A.G 1390.
Replace sealing ring and install bolt in drain pipe.
SUNROOF, CLEANING AND LUBRICATING
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Lint-free cloths
- Brush
- Shop vacuum i.e. Wet and dry vacuum cleaner
- Lubricant G 060 751 A2 for the guide rails.
- Krytox paste G 052 141 A2 for seals.
- Isopropyl alcohol for cleaning the seals.
Note. Paint brush (approximately 15 mm wide) (bend approximately 40°).

Clean and coat the glass cover seal
Install the glass sunroof panel.
Note. For opened glass sunroof panel, first coat the front and then install the rear.
Remove grease and remaining dirt from the glass sunroof panel -arrow- with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.
Scheme 18
Apply a thin layer of Krytox paste as far as possible on the glass sunroof panel -arrow- with a commercially available paint brush.
- After applying, make sure that there is no visible white grease film remaining.
Wipe away ant extra Krytox paste from the seal with a lint-free cloth.
Clean and Lubricate Guide Rail
Open the glass sunroof panel entirely.
Remove the grease and remaining dirt on the guide rail with a lint-free cloth. (If necessary, remove sand and fine pollen from the guide rails with a shop vacuum).
Apply G 060 751 A2 grease on the inside of the guide rail -arrow- with a commercially available paint brush.
Scheme 19
Apply G 060 751 A2 grease on the outside of the guide rail -arrow- with a commercially available paint brush.
Scheme 20
Apply G 060 751 A2 grease on the side of the guide rails for the sliding headliner -arrow- with a commercially available paint brush.
Scheme 21
Remove the excess lubricant from the guide rails with a lint-free cloth.
Repeat the process for the opening on the opposite side of the vehicle.
PANORAMA SUNROOF, CHECKING, CLEANING, AND LUBRICATING

- Lint-free cloths
- Brush
- Lubricant G 060 751 A2 for the guide rails, lass cover mechanism, locking mechanism, and spring hooks
Note. Paint brush (approximately 15 mm wide) (bend approximately 40°). Clean all components that are going to be lubricated using a lint-free cloth.

- Open the glass panel all the way.
- Lubricate the inner guide rail -arrow- with lubricant G 060 751 A2.

- Open the glass panel all the way.
- Lubricate the outer guide rail -arrow- with lubricant G 060 751 A2.

- Remove both of the inside panels -arrows- (remove in the direction of the arrow).
- Open the glass cover half way after removing.
- Lubricate the glass cover mechanism -arrow- with lubricant G 060 751 A2.
- Install the inside panels.

- Lubricate the front locking mechanism in the rail -arrow- with lubricant G 060 751 A2.
Scheme 27
- Move the glass cover into the raised position.
- Lubricate the rear spring hook -arrow- with lubricant G 060 751 A2.
SERVICE INTERVAL DISPLAY, THROUGH MY 2007, RESETTING
Follow these steps in sequential order.
- Connect the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B.
- Guided Fault Finding or Guided Functions
- Go to - function/component selection
- Service Work
- Combination Processor, reset WIV
- Now follow guided program

SERVICE INTERVAL DISPLAY, FROM MY 2008, RESETTING
Note. From MY 2008, all vehicles are equipped with the new maintenance concept as in the A5
Follow these steps in sequential order.
- Connect the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B.
- Guided Functions
- Service Work
- Now follow guided program
SERVICE DISPLAY, RESETTING AFTER SERVICE WITHOUT VAS 5051/5052
- For vehicles through model year 2007 only
Note. It is no longer possible to reset the service display without VAS 5051/5052 on vehicles from MY 2008. If the service display is reset manually via the instrument cluster, it automatically sets itself to fixed interval.
Switch the ignition on.
Scheme 28
With button 1 pressed, the message "SERVICE" appears.
Pull the knob one more time within 5 seconds until "SERVICE IN.... KM... DAYS appears."
Service has been reset.
Scheme 29
Headlamp washer system fuse: the 30 amp fuse is located in the spare fuse panel -arrow-.
Replace in fuse holder C located in the instrument panel on the driver side, location 32
DOOR ARRESTER, HINGE, HOOD SAFETY CATCHES, LOCK CYLINDER, LUBRICATING
Perform the following steps in the given sequence
Note. Vehicle must be at least at room temperature. Operate the moveable components several times to allow the universal oil or spray lubricant to seep in. Remove any excess lubricant with a lint-free cloth.

Remove the protective cap -1- in the direction of the arrow.
Lubricate the door arrester on the marked positions -arrows-.
- Use universal oil spray G 000 115 A2.

Lubricate the door hinge on the marked positions -arrows-.
- Use universal oil spray G 000 115 A2.

Lubricate the hood safety catch on the marked positions -arrows-.

Lock Cylinder
Lubricate the lock cylinder.
- Use spray lubricant G 052 778 A2.
