Trim Removal/Installation - Door Areas

  1. Detach the hooks (A) from the kick panel (B) and the B-pillar lower trim (C), and pull the front door sill trim (D) up by hand to detach the clips (E), then remove it
  2. If necessary, pull the front side outer trim (F) up to detach the clips (G), then remove the trim
  3. Remove the driver's kick panel (A) or the passenger's kick panel (B) -1 Pull out the door opening seal (C) as needed from the kick panel hooks (D) -2 Pull the kick panel back by hand to detach the clips, then remove it Driver's side Passenger's side
  4. Remove the B-pillar lower trim (see «B-PILLAR UPPER/LOWER TRIM»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim__b-pillar-upperlower-trim) )
  5. Pull out the front door opening seal (A) from the trim hooks (B) around the front door opening flange, then remove the seal
  6. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items
  1. If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones
  2. Push the clips and the hooks into place securely

Rear Door Sill Area

  1. Remove the rear seat cushion (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/seats/#seats__rear-seat-removalinstallation) )
  2. Detach the hooks (A) and the tab (B) from the B-pillar lower trim (C), and pull the rear door sill trim (D) up by hand to detach the clips (E, F), then remove the trim
  3. If necessary, pull the rear side outer trim (G) up to detach the clips (H), then remove the trim
  4. Remove the B-pillar lower trim (see «B-PILLAR UPPER/LOWER TRIM»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim__b-pillar-upperlower-trim) )
  5. Pull out the rear door opening seal (A) from the trim hooks (B) around the rear door opening flange, then remove the seal
  6. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items
  1. If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones
  2. Push the clips, the hooks, and the tabs into place securely

A-Pillar Trim

Note. Follow the A-pillar trim installation procedure carefully, improper installation could cause the side curtain airbags to deploy improperly and possibly cause injury Put on gloves to protect your hands Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components Take care not to scratch the trim or the panels The upper clip in the A-pillar trim (A) consists of a plastic grommet (B) and a metal pin (C) The grommet expanded by the pin secures it to the body panel (D) The projections (E) on the pin break during removal, so the clip must be replaced with a new one when the trim is reinstalled

  1. Pull the door opening seal away from the A-pillar as needed (see step 5 )
  2. Hit the upper clip in the A-pillar trim (A) with a rubber mallet The clip is located under the point where the index tab (B) on the edge of the trim indicates Hitting the clip breaks the projections (C) on the pin (D) and pushes it into the grommet (E) on the body (F) NOTE: The upper clip must be replaced with a new one when the A-pillar trim is reinstalled
  3. Pull the top of the A-pillar trim (A) back by hand to remove the upper clip (B) from the body (C)
  4. Pull the A-pillar trim (A) by hand to detach the clip Pull up the trim from the dashboard (B), and disconnect the tweeter connector (C), then remove the trim NOTE: Be careful not to damage the tweeter connector when removing the A-pillar trim
  5. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the A-pillar trim, along with other parts with a new ones. Refer to «COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/airbag/#srs-supplemental-restraint-system__component-replacementinspection-after-deployment) .
  6. If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the A-pillar trim (A) and note the following items To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the A-pillar trim and replace it if it has any of the following damage Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitened areas in the A-pillar trim Any cracks or stress-whitening in the clip seating surfaces (B) Replace the upper clip (C) with a new one If the clip (D) is damaged or stress-whitened, replace it with a new one
  7. Temporarily install the A-pillar trim (without the upper clip) to check the overlap between the trim and the headliner (see «CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE HEADLINER/PILLAR TRIM OVERLAP»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/airbag/#srs-supplemental-restraint-system__checking-and-adjusting-the-headlinerpillar-trim) ) Remove the trim and, if necessary, adjust the overlap
  8. Carefully install the new upper clip (A) to the A-pillar trim (B) Be sure that the grommet (C) is nearest to the top of the pin (D) as shown
  9. Reinstall the A-pillar trim (A) Insert the bottom of the trim into the dashboard (B), then reconnect the tweeter connector (C) Place the trim over the A-pillar (D) and fit the upper clip (E) and the lower clip into the holes in the A-pillar, then lightly push the trim into place NOTE: Make sure the side curtain airbag is not tucked under the clips or trim ribs Do not push too hard on the A-pillar trim If you push too hard, the clip will be damaged, and it will not hold the trim properly Gently tug on the A-pillar trim to verify that all clips are securely fastened
  10. Reinstall the door opening seal

B-Pillar Upper/Lower Trim

Note. If the side airbag and/or the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the affected trim pieces and clips, along with other parts with a new ones. Refer to COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT . Put on gloves to protect your hands Take care not to bend or scratch the trim or the panels Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

  1.   2. Slide the front seat forward fully
  3. Remove the B-pillar lower trim (A) Pull the upper portion of the trim back to detach the upper hooks (B) Detach the lower clip by pulling the bottom of the trim back by hand
  4. Remove these items Front seat belt lower anchor (see «FRONT SEAT BELT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/restraints-control-systems/#seat-belt-system) ) Front door opening seal, as needed (see step 5 ) Rear door opening seal, as needed (see step 5 )
  5. Remove the B-pillar upper trim (A) Pull the bottom of the trim back by hand to detach the lower hooks (B) Pull the bottom of the trim back to release the clip Pull the trim down to release the upper hooks (C) from the holes in the body
  6. Pass the front seat belt (A) lower anchor out through a hole in the slider (B), then remove the B-pillar upper trim (C)
  7. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items
  1. If the clip (A) is damaged or stress-whitened, replace it with a new one
  2. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the B-pillar upper trim, the B-pillar lower trim and clips, along with other parts with a new ones. Refer to «COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/airbag/#srs-supplemental-restraint-system__component-replacementinspection-after-deployment) .
  3. To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the trim and replace it if it has any of the following damage Any cracks or deformations in the B-pillar upper trim (B) or the upper hooks (C), or any stress-whitened areas in the upper part of the trim Any cracks or deformations in the B-pillar lower trim (D), or any breakages in the part (E) that overlaps the B-pillar upper trim Any cracks or stress-whitened areas in the clip seating surface (F)
  4. Replace any damaged parts with new ones
  5. Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly (see «CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE HEADLINER/PILLAR TRIM OVERLAP»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/airbag/#srs-supplemental-restraint-system__checking-and-adjusting-the-headlinerpillar-trim) )
  6. Make sure the pin (G) on the front seat belt shoulder anchor adjuster (H) and the hole (I) on the back of the slider are engaged when installing the B-pillar upper trim
  7. Make sure the upper hooks are installed into the holes in the body securely
  8. Push the clips and the hooks into place securely
  9. Before installing the anchor bolt, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt

  6. Scheme 100: Rear Shelf
  1. Remove C-pillar trim, both sides (see «C-PILLAR TRIM»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim__c-pillar-trim) )
  2. Remove the rear shelf (A) Pull up the entire rear shelf to detach the clips Pull both rear seat belts (B) and rear center seat belt (C) out through the slits (D) in the rear shelf
  3. Install the shelf in the reverse order of removal, and note these items
  1. Remove any clips left in the body with a clip remover, and reinstall them on the rear shelf
  2. If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones
  3. When installing the rear shelf, slip the rear seat belts and the rear center seat belt through the slits in the rear shelf properly
  4. Push the clips and the hooks into place securely

Trim Removal/Installation - Trunk Area

  2. Remove the tool box spacer (A)

  4. Detach the clips, and release the hooks (A) and the pins (B) by pulling up the trunk rear trim panel (C), then remove it
  5. Release the clips and the Velcro fasteners (A), then remove the trunk front trim panel (B)
  6. Release the clips (A, B) and the cargo hook buttons (C, D), then remove the trunk side trim panel (E)
  7. Remove the rear seat-back (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/seats/#seats__rear-seat-removalinstallation) )
  8. Remove the clips
  9. Lower the trunk upper trim panel (A) to detach the clips, then remove the panel from the trunk compartment
  10. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items

  2. Push the clips and the hooks into place securely

  1. Insert a flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with protective tape through the hole in the front side of the bracket cover (A), and push in on the hook (B)
  2. While pushing in on the hook (A), release the sunvisor (B) from the holder (C), and rotate the sunvisor backward about 45°. Make sure the hook slides into the bracket cover as you rotate the sunvisor
  3. Pull down the sunvisor (A) to release the pin (B) and the bracket (C) from the holes in the body Then pull out the vanity mirror light connector (D), and disconnect it NOTE: If the sunvisor cannot be pulled down, the hook has not rotated into the bracket cover Repeat step 2 to rotate the hook
  4. Turn the holder (A) 45° counterclockwise, and pull it down to remove it from the holder grommet (B)
  5. Pry out the holder grommet (A) from the body by pinching its hooks (B)
  6. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the sunvisor with a new one
  7. If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, inspect the sunvisor for damage A damaged sunvisor may cause the side curtain airbags to deploy improperly, possibly causing injury Replace the sunvisor if it has any of the following damage Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket (A) Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket cover (B) Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shaft (C) Any cracks in the sunvisor base (D) Any cracks in the vanity mirror base (E)
  8. If the holder grommet is damaged or stress-whitened, replace it with a new one
  9. Install the holder (A) in the holder grommet (B) by turning it 45° clockwise, and install them in the body as an assembly by pushing it until the hooks (C) snap into place securely
  10. Connect the vanity mirror light connector (A), and install the sunvisor (B) by inserting the bracket (C) and the pin (D) of the bracket cover (E) into the holes in the body
  11. While holding the bracket cover (A), rotate the sunvisor (B) forward until the hook (C) snaps into place Gently pull down on the sunvisor to make sure it is properly secured in the body Rotate the sunvisor into the holder (D)

Grab Handle Removal/Installation

  1. Lower the grab handle (A), then insert a small flat-tip screwdriver wrapped in protective tape into the notch
  2. Use a KTC trim tool (A) to pull on the small flat-tip screwdriver, and remove the cap (B)
  3. Pinch the clips (A) to release the hooks (B), then remove the grab handle (C)
  4. Remove the clips (A) by pinching the hooks with a pair of pliers
  5. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the grab handle with a new one
  6. If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, inspect the grab handle for damage A damaged grab handle may cause the side curtain airbag to deploy improperly, possibly causing injury Replace the grab handle if it has any of the following damage Any cracks or damage in the grab handle (A) Any cracks or stress-whitening in the caps (B)
  7. Install the clips (A) on the grab handle (B), then insert the caps (C) fully into the clips
  8. Position the grab handle (A) on the mounting bracket (B), and push on the grab handle until the clips (C) snap into place securely

Headliner Removal/Installation

  1. Remove the front seat head restraints, and hold down the rear seat head restraints Slide both the front seats all the way back, and fully recline the seat-back
  2. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ), then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work
  3.   4. Remove the roof console (A) Remove the screws, then pull out the roof console by detaching the clips Disconnect the roof console connector (B), the moonroof switch connector (C), and the HFL microphone connector (D) (for some models), then remove the roof console
  5. Remove the rearview mirror harness cover Disconnect the connector from the rearview mirror, and release the wire harness from the rearview mirror harness cover base (see «REARVIEW MIRROR HARNESS COVER BASE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/windows/#windows-and-glass__rearview-mirror-harness-cover-base-replacement) )
  6. Driver's side Disconnect the roof wire harness connector (A), and remove the roof wire harness (B) from the A-pillar by detaching the harness clips (C)
  7. Disconnect the moonroof subharness connector (A), and detach the harness clip (B) as shown
  8. Lower the headliner (A) Remove the front door opening seals (B) and rear door opening seals (C) from each roof portion With the help of an assistant, detach the rear clips (D) by pulling the rear portion of the headliner down Detach the front clips (E), the magnet (F), and the Velcro fasteners (G) by pulling the headliner down at the moonroof opening
  9. Remove the headliner (A) from the vehicle NOTE: Do not bend the headliner Bending the headliner will crease and damage it Lower the headliner -2 Move the headliner rearward -3 Lower the front of the headliner below the dashboard -4 Rotate the headliner to point the front corner outside of the passenger's front door opening and the rear corner outside of the driver's front door opening -5 Pull the headliner and the roof wire harness (B) out through the passenger's front door
  10. If necessary, remove the cushion tape fastening the roof wire harness (A) to the headliner (B), then remove the harness from the headliner
  11. If necessary, remove the front grab handle bracket (A) and the rear grab handle bracket (B) Take care not to damage the side curtain airbag -1 Remove the side curtain airbag mounting bolts (C, D) -2 Release the tabs (E) holding the grab handle bracket to the side curtain airbag, and remove the bracket Front Rear
  12. Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items
  1. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the headliner and the removed trim pieces with new ones (see «COMPONENT REPLACEMENT/INSPECTION AFTER DEPLOYMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/airbag/#srs-supplemental-restraint-system__component-replacementinspection-after-deployment) )
  2. To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the headliner and all removed trim Replace any pieces with the following damage Any creases or tears in the headliner (A) Any cracks or breakage in the grab handle (B) Any damage around the grab handle holes (C) or sunvisor holes (D) in the headliner Any cracks in the sunvisor stay base (E) Any cracks in the sunvisor bracket cover (F) Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shaft (G) Any cracks in the sunvisor base (H) Any cracks or breakage in the vanity mirror base (I) Any fastener bases (J), stiffeners (K), magnet (L), or clip bases (M) which have come off the headliner
  3. When installing the grab handle, push on the handle against the bracket (N) until the clips (0) snap into place securely
  4. If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones
  5. Replace the removed cushion tape with new pieces
  6. Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the body
  7. Make sure the headliner overlaps the trim pieces correctly (see «CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE HEADLINER/PILLAR TRIM OVERLAP»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/airbag/#srs-supplemental-restraint-system__checking-and-adjusting-the-headlinerpillar-trim) )
  8. Be careful not to crease or damage the headliner when reinstalling it through the front passenger's door opening Also be careful not to scratch the body
  9. Push the clips and hooks into place securely

  2. Release the hooks (A), then remove the accelerator pedal clip (B)
  3. While pushing down the return spring (A), pull back the accelerator pedal (B) to release the hook (C)
  4. Remove the footrest (A) by pulling it to detach the clips
  5. Remove the bolts, then remove the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor mounting bracket (A) Detach the harness clips (C), and remove the ground bolt (D) with a TORX T30 bit Disconnect the SRS unit connector B Bolt specification: 6 x 1.0 mm, 9.8 N.m (1.0kgf-m, 7.2 lbf.ft)
  6. Remove the clips (A) Detach the clips (B) fastening the carpet to both door sill areas
  7. Pull the front carpet (C) out from under the dashboard, then remove the carpet
  8. If necessary, release the hook (A) that is just under the arrow mark (B) on the floor mat holder (C) by prying up on the holder with a flat-tip screwdriver, and remove the holder through the slit (D) in the carpet (E).
  9. Install the front carpet in the reverse order of removal, and note these items
  1. If the clips fastening the carpet to the floor are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
  2. if you remove the accelerator pedal clip, replace it with a new one (clip).
  3. If necessary, adjust the parking brake cable (see «PARKING BRAKE INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/mechanical-hydraulic/#conventional-brake-components) ).
  4. Push the clips into place securely

  4. Pull the rear carpet out by detaching the clips (D), cut the carpet in the areas (E) shown, then remove the carpet
  5. Install the rear carpet in the reverse order of removal, and note these items
  1. If the clips fastening the carpet to the floor are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones
  2. Push the clips into place securely
