Self-diagnostic Function
The seat ventilation control unit has a thermistor self-diagnostic function. The control unit checks for an open or short in the thermistor, and it indicates the result by lighting the LEDs of the seat ventilation switch.
Entering the self-diagnostic function
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and do the next step within 5 seconds.
- Push the DOWN side of the seat ventilation switch three times, and the UP side six times, then the DOWN side three times.
- If the system enters the self-diagnostic mode, all of the LEDs (A) turn on for 6 seconds, then indicate the result. If the three LEDs of the heater side turn on, the thermistor is faulty. If no LED turns on, the thermistor is OK. NOTE: The system has a timer function. The fan motor timer: About 15 minutes after the fan motor HIGH position is ON, the control unit changes the fan motor speed and switch LED indicators from Hi to Mid. The seat heater timer: About 5 minutes after the heater temperature rises over 140°F (60°C), the control unit changes the heater temperature and switch LED indicators from Hi to Mid. The seat heater timer: About an hour after the heater temperature rises over 115°F (46°C), the control unit changes the heater temperature and switch LED indicators from Mid to LO.
Ending the self-diagnostic function
Turn the ignition switch OFF, and the self-diagnostic mode is exited.

Control Unit Input Test
Note. Before testing, check the No. 22 (AS F/B) (70A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box, the No. 30 (7.5A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box, and the No. 6 (20A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.

- Remove the driver's or front passenger's seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/seats/#seats__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the 26P connector (A) from the seat ventilation control unit (B).
- Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary and recheck the system. If the terminals look OK, go to step 4.
- Reconnect the 26P connector to the control unit, and make these input tests at the connector. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 5. - Remove the driver's seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/seats/#seats__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the 4P connector (A) and 2P connector (B) from the seat heater.
- Check for continuity between the A4 and B1 terminals of the drivers' seat wire harness side. There should be continuity. If there is no continuity, check for an open in the driver's seat wire harness. If the wire harness is OK, replace the seat-back heater.
- Check for continuity between the A1 and A4 terminals, the A1 and B1 terminals, and the A2 and A3 terminals. There should be continuity.
- If the continuity is not as specified, replace the appropriate seat heater.
Scheme 116
- Remove the passenger's seat (see «FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/seats/#seats__front-seat-removalinstallation) ).
- Disconnect the 4P connector (A) from the seat heater.
- Check for continuity between the No. 1 and No. 4 terminals, and the No. 3 and No. 2 terminals of the 4P connector. There should be continuity.
- If the continuity is not as specified, replace the seat heater.
