Scheme 64
Throttle Body Test
Note. If the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) has been reported on, check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Scheme 65
- Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/testing-diagnostics/#pgm-fi-system__dlc-circuit-troubleshooting) ).
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 RPM without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Check the REL TP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. The reading should be below 2.46 deg. If it is not, clean the throttle body (see ).
Throttle Body Cleaning
| CAUTION | Do not insert your fingers into the installed throttle body when you turn the ignition switch to ON (II) or while the ignition switch is in ON (II). If you do, you will seriously injure your fingers if the throttle valve is activated. |
Scheme 66
Scheme 67
- Make sure the ignition switch turned LOCK (0).
- Check for damage to the air cleaner. If the air cleaner is damaged, replace it.
- Remove the throttle body (see «Throttle Body Removal/Installation»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/mechanical/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-removalinstallation) ).
- Clean off the carbon from the throttle valve and inside the throttle body with a paper towel soaked in throttle plate cleaner. NOTE: Remove the throttle body to clean it. Be careful not to pinch your fingers. To avoid removing the molybdenum coating, do not clean the bearing area of the throttle shaft (A). Do not spray throttle plate cleaner directly on the throttle body. Use Acura genuine throttle plate cleaner.
- Install the throttle body (see «Throttle Body Removal/Installation»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/mechanical/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-removalinstallation) ).
- Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Select the ETCS TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
- Select TP POSITION CHECK and clear the throttle position (TP) learned value.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and wait 2 seconds, without pressing the accelerator pedal.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system__pcm-idle-learn-procedure) ).
Scheme 68
- Remove the battery setting plate (see «RECONNECTION»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#battery__reconnection) ) to avoid damaging the air cleaner.
- Loosen the hose band screw (A).
- Remove the bolts (B).
- Remove the MAF/IAT sensor connector (C) and the harness clamps (D).
- Remove the air cleaner (E).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: Tighten the hose band screw (A) until the edge of the hose band (F) goes over the paint mark (G) up to 0.4 in (11 mm).
Scheme 69
- Loosen the bolts (A), then open the air cleaner housing cover (B).
- Remove the air cleaner element (C) from the air cleaner housing (D).
- Check the air cleaner element for damage or clogging. If there is damage or clogged, replace it. NOTE: Do not use compressed air to clean the air cleaner element.
- Clean and remove any debris from inside the air cleaner housing.
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. If you did not replace the air cleaner element, this procedure is complete. If the Maintenance Minder required air cleaner replacement, reset the Maintenance Minder (see «RESETTING THE MAINTENANCE MINDER»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/schedule/#maintenance) ). If the idle speed fluctuates, do the idle speed inspection (see «IDLE SPEED INSPECTION»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system__idle-speed-inspection) ).
Scheme 70
- Do the battery removal procedure (see «RECONNECTION»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#battery__reconnection) ).
- Remove the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box (A) from the battery base.
- Remove the air intake cover (B).
- Remove the bolts (C), then remove the intake air resonator (D).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
- Do the battery installation procedure (see «RECONNECTION»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/body-electrical/#battery__reconnection) ).
Throttle Body Removal/Installation
| CAUTION | Do not insert your fingers into the installed throttle body when you turn the ignition switch to ON (II) or while the ignition switch is in ON (II). If you do, you will seriously injure your fingers if the throttle valve is activated. |
Note. If you are replacing or cleaning the throttle body, start at step 1 . If you are removing the throttle body, start at step 4 .
Scheme 71
- USA, Canada models: Connect the HDS to the DLC while the engine is stopped.
- USA, Canada models: Select the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
- USA, Canada models: Do the TP POSITION CHECK in the ETCS TEST.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Remove the charge air cooler (see «REMOVAL»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/mechanical/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system) ), then remove the intake air duct (charge air cooler outlet tube) (A).
- Disconnect the throttle body connector (B), the water bypass hoses (C), and the vacuum hose (D). NOTE: Plug the water bypass hoses after disconnecting them.
- Remove the throttle body (E).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new gasket (F). NOTE: When torquing the screw of the hose band (G), align the edge of the hose band (H) with the mark (I) painted on the hose band. If you tighten the screw over the mark, replace the hose band.
- After installing the throttle body, do this: Refill the radiator with engine coolant (see «COOLANT CHECK»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ). Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(/acura/rdx/i-2009-2012/remont/testing-diagnostics/#idle-control-system__pcm-idle-learn-procedure) ).
