System Description
The rear entertainment system is composed of a special audio unit, a DVD player unit, a rear controller, and screen wireless headphones, wireless remote control, and auxiliary input jacks.
Audio Unit
- Provides rear system power
- Provides control for the rear functions
- Allows the rear display to show information about the rear system status
- Provides a method to stop the rear passenger's from having control of the rear system

- Offers simple operation (control in the audio unit)
- Has the ability to play DVD's or CD's
- Automatically turns off when battery voltage drops below 12 V
- The DVD player in the rear entertainment system can play DVD's and CD's bearing these marks shown on their packages or jackets. Those packages or jackets should also bear the designation of "1" or "ALL." DVD-ROM's cannot be played in this system (refer to the owner's manual for more information).
Rear Controller And Screen
- Has flip down 7 " display
- Display is in operational when pushed beyond the detent
Wireless Headphone
- Has ON/OFF button/switch
- Has volume control
- Has automatic shut off when not in use ('05-06 models)
- Operational only in the second and third row seats, not outside the vehicle or in the front seats
Wireless Remote Control
Allows remote operation of the audio and DVD units.
Auxiliary Input Jacks
- Allows input from standard video game and video equipment using RCA connectors
- Provides three headphone jacks with separate volume controls
Radio Remote Switch
Allows operation of the audio and DVD units at the steering wheel.

- Turn the rear entertainment system ON. After the main power switch "VOL PUSH PWR" (A) is turned ON, push "REAR PWR" switch (B) to turn the rear system ON. To turn the rear system OFF, push "REAR PWR", and to turn the whole system OFF, push "VOL PUSH PWR".
- Using the selector knob. Turn left to select the front controls (Audio). Turn right to select the rear controls (After rear operation is finished, selector will automatically return to the front control in 10 seconds).
- Rear Control Enable/Disable. By pushing the selector knob, the driver can prevent the rear passengers from operating the system. Each push of the selector knob cycles the switch between ON-OFF (Rear Control Enable/Rear Control Disabled). When rear operation is prohibited, the LCD on the audio unit displays "RR CONT OFF".
- Viewing the twin displays. The two displays indicate the status of the front (A) and rear (B) systems. '05-'06 models: To change the display from front to rear. The system default is to display the front, to display the rear, turn the selector knob to the right and release. The display will show the rear system for 10 seconds, then switch back to the front.
- Rear speaker automatic OFF Function. By turning the rear speaker OFF you can reduce the interference between the front source and the rear source (Headphone). The speaker will be turned ON/OFF automatically when the front and rear have different sources selected. When the rear speaker is in the OFF mode, the LCD display on the audio unit displays "RR SP OFF".
Rear Controller
Using the control switch from the rear seat.
With "Rear Power ON" and rear control enabled the rear passenger can control the functions.

'03-04 Models
The rear entertainment system has a self-diagnostic function. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following

- Turn the ignition switch to the ACC (I) or ON (II) position.
- Push the "VOL push PWR" knob (A) to ON.
- Simultaneously push and hold the buttons "DISC+6" "SCAN" and "A.SEL" for more than 2 seconds.
- Release the buttons when a diagnosis message (DIAG) shows in the "FRONT" display (B) and diagnosis indication shows in the "REAR" display (C) of the audio unit. It changes every 3 seconds for the DVD player unit (DVD), the rear controller and screen (DISP), and auxiliary (AUX).
- When there is no problem found, the system returns to normal operation automatically followed by a single audible beep.
- When a problem is detected, the system will display which component has the error followed by three audible beeps. The error (Err) message will appear in the "REAR" display. If the DVD player, the rear controller and screen (DISP) or the auxiliary (AUX) assembly has a malfunction, an indication will appear in the "REAR" display.
- After the three beeps, the system will hold the displayed error (Scheme 110)or (Scheme 111) depending on which component has the malfunction.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF or push the "VOL push PWR" button to cancel the self-diagnostic function.
'05-06 Models
The rear entertainment system has a self-diagnostic function. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following

- Turn the ignition switch to the ACC (I) or ON (II) position.
- Push the "VOL push PWR" knob (A) to ON.
- Simultaneously push and hold the buttons preset "1", DISC+ "6", and "SEEK/SKIP+" for more than 2 seconds.
- Release the buttons when a diagnosis message (DIAG) shows in the display of the audio unit. It changes every 3 seconds for the XM, DVD player unit (DVD), the rear controller and screen (DISP), and auxiliary (AUX).
- When there is no problem found, there is a single audible beep.
- When a problem is detected, the system will display which component has the error followed by three audible beeps. The error (Err) message will appear in the display. If the XM, DVD player, the rear controller and screen (DISP) or the auxiliary (AUX) assembly has a malfunction, an indication will appear in the display.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF or push the "VOL push PWR" button to cancel the self-diagnostic function.
Error Codes
Both the audio unit and rear control panel will display error codes when a problem is detected with the DVD player.

| DVD ERR | Mechanical Error, or a DVD has been loaded in the CD player | Press the EJECT button and pull out the DVD. Check it for damage or deformation. If the DVD cannot be pulled out, or the error message does not disappear after the DVD is ejected, substitute a known-good DVD player unit and recheck. If symptom/indication goes away, replace the original DVD player unit. Do not try to force the DVD out of the player. |

- Remove the console panel and center lower cover (see «CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/mdx/i-2000-2006/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#consoles__center-console-removalinstallation) ).
- Remove the cover (A) from the DVD player unit (B).
- Remove the screws and pull out the DVD player unit.
- Disconnect the 26P and 8P connectors (or 22P connector)*.(C) from the DVD player unit. * : '05-06 models
- Remove the four mounting screws, then remove the bracket.
- Install in the reverse order of removal, and make sure the DVD player unit connectors are plugged in properly.

- Remove the display cover (A) by pulling down on the rear. There are hooks (B) on the front.
- Remove the mounting bolts (A).
- Disconnect the connector (B) from the rear controller and screen.
- Remove the screws from the controller (A).
- Disconnect the cable (B) from the controller.
- Remove the screws, then remove the screen (A) and base (B).
- Remove the screws and lock switch (A).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal, and make sure the rear controller and screen connector is plugged in properly.

- Carefully pry out the auxiliary jack assembly (A).
- Disconnect the 14P connector (B) and remove the auxiliary jack assembly.

- Remove the battery covers (A) from the wireless headphone by inserting a coin in the lock tabs (B) and lifting the covers.
- Remove the batteries (C) from the wireless headphone. Replacement Battery Size: AAA
- Push the ON/OFF button (A), and confirm that the indicator (B) comes on after the batteries are replaced.
