BATTERY DISCONNECT/CONNECT

Note. Battery is located in rear of vehicle under cargo compartment floor panel.

WARNINGIgnition key must be in position II. NO ONE must be in vehicle when battery is connected. This is a safety precaution in case an air bag module activates when power is connected.
CAUTIONAlways disconnect battery negative cable first. DO NOT disconnect positive cable in engine compartment first.
CAUTIONTurn ignition to OFF (0) position. Before disconnecting negative battery cable, obtain anti-theft radio security code. Disconnect negative battery cable. After reconnecting battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio.

Once battery has been connected, check operation of radio, clock and convenience electronics.

Air Bag

Check that SRS warning light on dashboard goes out after negative battery cable is connected.

WARNINGIgnition key must be in position II. NO ONE must be in vehicle when battery is connected. This is a safety precaution in case an air bag module activates when power is connected.

A/C-Heater Blower Motor Fan Speed

A/C-heater blower motor fan speed will need to be calibrated. To calibrate, turn ignition to position II. Turn blower fan switch to maximum, then to minimum. Calibration is complete.

Central Locking System & Courtesy Lighting

Initialize central locking and courtesy lighting by unlocking vehicle using remote control, key or through VADIS (factory scan tool) vehicle communication.

ECM

If connector is disconnected from ECM or battery is disconnected, all adaptation values in control module are erased. DTC memory content will remain intact however. If engine is started after this, a rough, uneven idle can result. In this case, engine must be allowed to run at idle for a few minutes or a longer road test must be performed until adaptation procedure has been completed.

Power Windows

Completely open and close all power windows.

Remote Starting Heater System

If vehicle is equipped with remote starting heater system, once battery has been disconnected or power is lost, the personal code will default to factory setting (1234).

Sun Roof Module (XC90)

The sun roof must be closed. Turn ignition in position I. Press the sun roof switch so that the sun roof is in the tilt position. Release the switch. Press the switch (in the tilt position) in again for at least 5 seconds so that the sun roof closes. Release the switch. The calibration is complete.

If the sun roof has not moved to the correct position, carry out calibration again. If the sun roof has still not moved to the correct position, Press the sun roof switch so that the sun roof moves to the rearmost position (completely open). Release the switch. Press the switch (in the completely open position) in again for at least 5 seconds so that the sun roof closes. Release the switch. Close the sun roof and carry out calibration again.

Stereo

All vehicles are equipped with an anti-theft stereo system that requires a code to activate. Record stereo code BEFORE disconnecting negative battery cable. Disconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition to position II. Reconnect negative battery cable. Enter code into stereo and reset clock.

CAUTIONTurn ignition to OFF (0) position. Before disconnecting negative battery cable, obtain anti-theft radio security code. Disconnect negative battery cable. After reconnecting battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio.

GENERATOR BELT PULLEY (W/FREEWHEEL)

Note. If vehicle is cold, battery charge warning lamp may light shortly after start-up. Freewheel needs to rotate and warm up bearing grease before it locks and engages the rotor shaft. If warning lamp remains lit, it may be an indication that freewheel has not locked pulley to rotor shaft.

Start engine. Raise engine to 3,000 RPM. Ensure power consuming components are connected. Check that only a weak clicking sound is heard when freewheel engages and disengages. Switch off engine. Check that generator rotates for longer than engine.

Rotate pulley counterclockwise and brake heavily. Freewheel should grip generator rotor shaft when rotating counterclockwise. Stop rotation. When stopping pulley, freewheel mechanism should release so that rotor shaft continues to rotate.
