RIDING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Note. Prior to performing wheel alignment, perform preliminary visual and mechanical inspection of wheels, tires and suspension components. See PRE-ALIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS in WHEEL ALIGNMENT THEORY & OPERATION article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
Before adjusting alignment, check riding height. Riding height must be checked with vehicle on level floor and tires properly inflated. Bounce vehicle several times and allow suspension to settle.
Visually inspect vehicle for signs of abnormal height from front to rear or side to side. Check passenger and luggage compartments for extra heavy items and remove if present. Riding height between left and right side of vehicle should vary less than 1" (25.4 mm). Ride height specification is not available from manufacturer.
Front Adjustment
- The camber angle is adjusted by moving the wheel spindle at the upper hole in the spring strut outwards or inwards depending on the value measured. If the wheel spindle is centered in the spring strut, the degree of adjustment is +/- 0.5°.
- Raise the front end. Remove the alignment equipment from wheel. Remove the wheel. Replace the bolts and nuts securing the spring strut to the wheel spindle. Tighten to light contact. Press the wheel spindle in or pull out to the maximum deflection, depending on the value measured in relation to the spring strut. Tighten the bolts to specification. - Install the wheel. Install the alignment equipment on wheel. Lower the car on the turn table. Bounce the car a few times. Recheck alignment.
Rear Adjustment
Note. Rear camber is not adjustable.
If the rear camber angle is not within specifications, replace the faulty or damaged component.
CASTER ADJUSTMENT
Check front caster angle on both sides of vehicle. Caster angle can vary by one degree maximum between right and left sides. No additional caster adjustment information is available from manufacturer.
To adjust toe-in, lengthen or shorten tie-rod ends as necessary. Loosen lock nuts and adjust tie rods. Maximum possible variation in length between tie rods is 2 mm. Take measurement between edge of thread and lock nut. After tightening, apply rust proofing to tie rod threads.
- Loosen the inner nut on the tie rod. Adjust the toe-in to specification. See «WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-160197-S29948945322004020200000). Use the eccentric bolt. (Scheme 1) Tighten the nuts slightly.
- Check the thrust angle. If it is outside the value given, loosen the nuts and adjust the toe-in again. Tighten the nut to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-160197-S30437771262004020200000). Check the toe-in again. Check the thrust angle.
