CHECKING FOR OPEN-CIRCUITS, CONTACT RESISTANCE AND OXIDATION

Check the ground terminal and the wiring connected to it. Check for an open-circuit.

VERIFICATION

  1. Ignition off
  2. Control module disconnected
  3. Switch off all equipment that takes power from the battery (courtesy lighting, radio etc). Connect an ohmmeter between terminal #A2 on the breakout box and the battery negative terminal. The ohmmeter should read 0 ohms.

Is the value OK?

  1. YES VERIFIED: Troubleshooting has been completed.
  2. NO Refer to «INFORMATION»(ref-466603-S05492086802012042500000)

FAULT-TRACING INFORMATION

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.

Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

CHECKING THE SUPPLY

Check passenger compartment fuse 24 (11C/24:2).

Check the cable between supply relay (2/29) for the combined instrument panel terminal #3 and passenger compartment fuse 24 (11C/24:2). Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground.

Check that the relay is not defective.

Check the cable between combined instrument panel terminal #6 and parking brake connector terminal #1. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Remedy if necessary.

Check the cable between combined instrument panel terminal #1 and supply relay (2/29) for the combined instrument panel terminal #1. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground.

Check the cable between combined instrument panel terminal #14 and ground. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Remedy as necessary

CHECKING THE POWER SUPPLY AND GROUND TERMINALS

Power supply, central electronic module (CEM)

The central electronic module (CEM) is powered directly from the battery via five power inputs on the control module.

The control module is also powered at three inputs from the ignition switch. These inputs are active on different occasions, depending on the position of the ignition key.

Direct supply from battery (30)

  1. Power input 1 terminal #E21 (#21) is supplied with power via a fuse from the battery. This power input is used for example to power the motherboard in the central electronic module (CEM). The power supply to the internal electronics is redundant with power input 2. The following relays and control modules are also powered via this input: Driver door module (DDM) Passenger door module (PDM) Left rear door module (LDM) Steering wheel module (SWM) and siren control module (SCM) (accessory) Relay for back-up (reversing) lamp Relay for courtesy lighting Power supply to the data link connector (DLC) and the stop lamp switch.
  2. Power input 2 terminal #E22 (#22) is supplied with power via a fuse from the battery. This power input is used for example to power the internal electronics in the central electronic module (CEM). The power supply to the internal electronics is redundant with power input 1. The following are also powered via this input: Fuel pump (FP) relay High beam relay The power socket in the cargo compartment.
  3. Power input 3 terminal #E20 (#20) is supplied with power via a fuse from the battery. The following are powered at this input: Right rear door module (RDM) Sun roof module (SRM) (motor) Relay for increased X-supply relay Power supply to driver's side power seat motors Power supply to passenger side power seat motors.
  4. Power input 4 terminal #E23 (#23) is supplied with power via a fuse from the battery. The following are powered at this input: Relay for the infotainment system Climate control Media player Carphone Antenna units Audio system.
  5. Power input 5 terminal #E18 (#18) is supplied with power via a fuse from the battery. This input is not used at present.

Supply from the ignition switch

  1. Power input terminal #A30 (#30). X-supply. The power supply is activated when the ignition key is in position I. The following are powered at this input: Heating the rear view mirror Sun roof (function) other units in the passenger compartment that require X-supply signal as indication to the central electronic module (CEM).
  2. Power input terminal #A17 (#17). 15-supply. The power supply is activated when the ignition key is in position II. The following are powered at this input: Monitoring the collision safety system Monitoring the exterior lighting and the back-up (reversing) system.
  3. Power input terminal #A42 (#42). 50-supply. The power supply is activated when the ignition key is in position III. At this input, an indication is transmitted to the central electronic module (CEM) and on to the engine control module (ECM) that the ignition key is in position III. This means that the engine control module (ECM) will activate the starter motor if everything is OK.

Checking the power supply

Check the power supply cable from the battery to the engine compartment fusebox. Check for an open-circuit. Check for loose connections. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation. Also check that the fuses for the power supply to the central electronic module (CEM) are intact. The voltage must be approximately battery voltage.

Check the wiring from the engine compartment fusebox to the central electronic module (CEM). Check for an open-circuit. Check for loose connections. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation. Connect the breakout box to the central electronic module (CEM). Measure the voltage at the following terminals on the central electronic module (CEM)

  1. #E21 (#21) and ground
  2. #E22 (#22) and ground
  3. #E20 (#20) and ground
  4. #E23 (#23) and ground
  5. #E18 (#18) and ground. This terminal is not used at present.

The voltage at all measurements must be approximately battery voltage.

Ground terminal, central electronic module (CEM)

The central electronic module (CEM) has two ground terminals. Both the terminals are grounded in the right-hand A-post.

  1. Ground input terminal 1 #A14 (#14) is signal ground and is connected to the ground terminal in the car body
  2. Ground input 2 (terminal #A28 (#28) is power ground and is connected to the ground terminal in the car body.

Checking the ground terminal

Check the ground lead between central electronic module (CEM) terminal #A14 (#14) and the ground terminal 31/84. Check for an open-circuit. Check for loose connections. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation. With the ignition on, the drop in voltage between the ground connection for the central electronic module (CEM) and the ground terminal must not be greater than 0.5 V.

Check the ground lead between central electronic module (CEM) terminal #A28 (#28) and the ground terminal 31/10. Check for an open-circuit. Check for loose connections. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation. With the ignition on, the drop in voltage between the ground connection for the central electronic module (CEM) and the ground terminal must not be greater than 0.5 V.

Remedy as necessary.

VOLTAGE FEED ACCESSORY USB UNIT (AUU)

Accessory USB Unit (AUU) is supplied with voltage via a voltage input on the control module. When the ignition is on, the power input is powered and the control module is in active mode.

  1. Power input #A C1:1 is supplied with voltage via a fuse from the battery. This power input is used to power the memory in the control module. In the event of an open-circuit, the control module will be reset and adaptation values and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) will disappear.

Checking the power supply

Check the voltage feed cable from the battery to the Accessory USB Unit (AUU) #C1-1 for open circuit, loose connections, contact resistance, and oxidation. Check the fuse. The voltage must be approximately battery voltage.

Ground connection Accessory USB Unit (AUU)

Accessory USB Unit (AUU) has a ground input.

Checking the ground terminal

Check the ground cable. Check for loose connections, contact resistance and oxidation. Check for an open-circuit. With the ignition on, the drop in voltage between the ground connection for the control module and the ground terminal must not be greater than 0.5 V.

Remedy as necessary.

Connect adapter see 9512843 to the control module connector. Connect breakout box see 9511428 to the adapter.

Disconnect the breakout box in reverse order.

Note. Before the control module can be checked and readings taken, the removed fuses must first be installed.

  3. To expose the connectors for the central electronic module (CEM), see «CONTROL MODULE RELAY BOX PASSENGER COMPARTMENT»(ref-466606-S26379830782012042500000)

Connect breakout box see 9511428 to the adapter.

Disconnect the breakout box in reverse order.

Note. Before the control module can be checked and measurements taken, the removed fuses must first be reinstalled.

Central electronic module (CEM)

  1. Connect adapter see «9512899»(ref-460875-S10814911832012033000000) to control module connectors A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H.
  2. For connector A, terminals #A1-#A46 correspond to terminals #1-#46 in the breakout box, when the breakout box is connected to output A
  3. For connector B, terminals #B1-#B32 correspond to terminals #1-#32 in the breakout box, when the breakout box is connected to output B
  4. For connector C, terminals #C1-#C46 correspond to terminals #1-#46 in the breakout box, when the breakout box is connected to output C
  5. For connector D, terminals #D1-#D14 correspond to terminals #1-#14 in the breakout box, when the breakout box is connected to output D/H
  6. For connector E, terminals #E1-#E41 correspond to terminals #1-#41 in the breakout box, when the breakout box is connected to output E
  7. For connector F, terminals #F1-#F32 correspond to terminals #1-#32 in the breakout box, when the breakout box is connected to output F
  8. For connector G, terminals #G1-#G32 correspond to terminals #1-#32 in the breakout box, when the breakout box is connected to output G
