HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING

HINT

  1. Use the following procedure to troubleshoot the power window control system.

  1. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP NEXT: Go to step 2
  2. CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS In troubleshooting, confirm that the problem symptoms have been accurately identified. Preconceptions should be discarded in order to make an accurate judgment. To clearly understand what the problem symptoms are, it is extremely important to ask the customer about the problem and the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred. Gather as much information as possible for reference. Past problems that seem unrelated may also help in some cases. The following 5 items are important points in the problem analysis: What Vehicle model, system name When Date, time, occurrence frequency Where Road conditions Under what conditions? Driving conditions, weather conditions How did it happen? Problem symptoms NEXT: Go to step 3
  3. INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE Measure the battery voltage. Standard voltage 11 to 14 V If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding to the next step. NEXT: Go to step 4

  1. CHECK POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH (WINDOW LOCK SWITCH) Check that the passenger side power window and rear windows cannot be operated when the window lock switch of the power window master switch is pressed. Check that the passenger side power window and rear windows can be operated when the window lock switch is pressed again.
  2.   5. CHECK POWER WINDOW OPERATION FUNCTION AFTER IGNITION SWITCH IS TURNED OFF Check that all the power windows can be operated with the power window master switch after the ignition switch is turned off. Check that the key-off operation function does not operate after the driver or passenger side door is opened. Check that all the power windows cannot be operated after more than approximately 45 seconds elapse after the ignition switch is turned off.
  6. CHECK PTC OPERATION HINT: PTC operation is a function that prevents overloading of the power window regulator by stopping the motor. PTC operation activates when the power window switch is operated for a predetermined amount of time. Pull up and hold the power window switch for more than 90 seconds. Then release the switch. Check that pressing the switch does not move the window. Wait until 60 seconds have passed since the switch was released in the first step. Check that pressing the switch results in normal window movement.

  1. CHECK POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH Disconnect the I3 power window master switch connector. Measure the voltage and resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM

  1. CHECK DLC3 Check the DLC3. Refer to «GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-427305-S15629809542011101200000) .
  2. INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE Measure the battery voltage. Standard voltage 11 to 14 V If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding to the next step.

DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST

  1. DATA LIST HINT: Using the Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. NOTE: In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Select: Body Electrical / Main Body / Data List. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.   2. ACTIVE TEST HINT: Using the Techstream to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Active Test. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream.
