The hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly consists of the planetary gear unit, generator (MG1) and motor (MG2). The planetary gear unit uses a planetary gear to split the engine output into mechanical power and electrical power in accordance with driving requests when the vehicle is being driven or the HV battery is being charged. When accelerating, motor (MG2) assists engine output by increasing vehicle driving force. Motor (MG2) also converts braking energy, which would otherwise be consumed in the form of heat during braking, into electrical energy. This recovered energy is stored in the HV battery. Generator (MG1) supplies power, which is used for charging the HV battery or driving motor (MG2), and also regulates the amount of electricity being generated. In addition, generator (MG1) is used as a starter motor to start the engine.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The power management control ECU monitors speed of the inverter water pump assembly. If the inverter water pump speed signal is not sent to the power management control ECU, the power management control ECU will illuminate the MIL and store a DTC.
The power management control ECU sends a block signal to the motor generator control ECU (MG ECU) to shutdown the power supply to the motor. When the system is not in the on (READY) state, it sends an HSDN (MG shutdown signal) signal from the power management control ECU to the motor generator control ECU (MG ECU) to check the function of the HV gate block. When a malfunction is detected in the HV gate block function, DTCs are stored.

When the vehicle is being driven with the accelerator pedal depressed, depressing the brake pedal without releasing the accelerator pedal will activate the brake override system to restrict driving torque. The EV drive mode signal will be sent to the power management control ECU when the EV drive mode switch (pattern select switch assembly) is operated. If the specified conditions are met, the system enters EV drive mode and the vehicle will be driven using EV drive mode. This signal is then transmitted from the power management control ECU via CAN to the combination meter assembly to illuminate the EV drive mode indicator.
