INSTALLATION

  1. Install each part in the reverse order of removal. CAUTION: Use a new bolt and self-locking nut. For parts which are not reusable, refer to «COMPONENT»(ref-565175-S41836834762013071000000) . Perform installation of the universal joint when the tilt position of the steering column is at the lowest position. Tighten the bolts of the universal joint in the order of gearbox side and column shaft side. Be sure to follow the tightening order and tightening torque of universal joint to avoid the steering effort from becoming heavy. Install the universal joint after tightening the cradle to the vehicle body. NOTE: Replace the gasket of the throttle body with a new gasket. Tightening torque: Front suspension-related parts: Refer to «COMPONENT»(ref-565175-S41836834762013071000000) . Steering gearbox-related parts: Refer to «STEERING GEARBOX»(ref-565179-S31343916772013071000000) .
  2. Install the front wheels. Tightening torque: 120 N.m (12.24 kgf-m, 88.5 ft-lb)
  3. Inspect the wheel alignment and adjust if necessary. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-565175-S24455169562013071000000) , Wheel Alignment. CAUTION: When the wheel alignment has been adjusted, perform the 0 point setting mode for each sensor in the VDCCM&H/U. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-565186-S16232332342013071000000) .

  1. Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the left and right front wheels.
  2. Remove the front under cover. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-565181-S28182960572013071000000) .
  3. Remove the front stabilizer. Remove the left and right stabilizer links. Remove the left and right stabilizer brackets. Disconnect the left and right tie-rod ends. Pull out the cotter pin (a). Remove the castle nut (b). Extract the tie-rod end (c) from the front axle housing. CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the boot during removal. Preparation tool: Tie-rod ball joint puller Turn the front stabilizer by approximately 180° toward the front of the vehicle and pull out the front stabilizer from the right side of the vehicle.

  1. Before installation, inspect the following items and replace any faulty part with a new one. Check the bushing for abnormal cracks, fatigue or damage. Check the stabilizer link for damage.
  2. Install each part in the reverse order of removal. CAUTION: The stabilizer bracket has a set orientation. Install it with the arrow mark facing the front side (1) of the vehicle. Tightening torque: Stabilizer bracket: 25 N.m (2.55 kgf-m, 18.4 ft-lb) Stabilizer link: 60 N.m (6.12 kgf-m, 44.3 ft-lb) Front wheel: 120 N.m (12.24 kgf-m, 88.5 ft-lb)

REMOVAL

  1. Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove the left and right stabilizer brackets.
  3. Remove the ball joint. Extract the cotter pin (a) from the ball stud. Remove the castle nut (b). Extract the ball stud from the front arm (c). Remove the bolt securing the ball joint to the front axle housing. CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the boot during removal. Preparation tool: Tie-rod ball joint puller Extract the ball joint from the front axle housing.

  1. Install the ball joint to the front axle housing. CAUTION: Do not apply grease to the tapered portion of ball stud. Before tightening, make sure the lower side of front axle housing and stepped section of ball joint are in contact. Tightening torque: 50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)
  2. Install the ball joint into front arm. Connect the ball joint to the front arm. Tightening torque: 39 N.m (3.98 kgf-m, 28.8 ft-lb) Retighten the castle nut further up to 60° until the hole in the ball stud is aligned with a slot in castle nut. Insert a new cotter pin and bend it around the castle nut.
  3. Install the stabilizer bracket. NOTE: The stabilizer bracket has a set orientation. Install it with the arrow mark facing the upper side of the vehicle. Tightening torque: 25 N.m (2.55 kgf-m, 18.4 ft-lb)
  4. Install the front wheels. Tightening torque: 120 N.m (12.24 kgf-m, 88.5 ft-lb)

Scheme 21: INSPECTION
  1. Check that there is no play by moving the upper and lower portions of front tire in an axial direction with the brake pedal depressed. Play exists --> Replace the ball joint. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-565175-S12590451892013071000000) .
  2. Check that there is no play by moving the upper and lower portions of front tire in an axial direction with the brake pedal released. Play exists --> Check the hub unit bearing. Refer to «INSPECTION»(ref-565177-S33658158122013071000000) .
  3. Replace the ball joint if the ball joint boot is damaged when visually inspecting the ball joint boot.

  1. Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove the front arm. Pull out the cotter pin (a). Remove the castle nut (b) and bolt. Extract the front arm (c) from the front axle housing. Preparation tool: Tie-rod ball joint puller Remove the nut and disconnect the front stabilizer link. Remove the bolts, then remove the front arm.

  1. Before installation, inspect the following items and replace any faulty part with a new one. Check the front arm for damage or cracks, and replace if defective. Visually check the bushing for abnormal cracks, fatigue or damage. Visually check the boot on the ball joint for damage.
  2. Using new self-locking nuts, temporary tighten the front arm.
  3. Install the ball joint to the front axle housing. CAUTION: Before tightening, make sure the lower side of front axle housing and stepped section of ball joint are in contact. Tightening torque: 50 N.m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb)
  4. Install the stabilizer link. Tightening torque: 60 N.m (6.1 kgf-m, 44.3 ft-lb)
  5. Install the front wheels. Tightening torque: 120 N.m (12.24 kgf-m, 88.5 ft-lb)
  6. Unload the vehicle from lift, and tighten the bolt which secures the front arm to cradle with wheels in full contact with the ground and the vehicle at curb weight. Tightening torque: Front bushing side: 95 N.m (9.7 kgf-m, 70.1 ft-lb) Rear bushing side: 140 N.m (14.3 kgf-m, 103.3 ft-lb)
  7. Inspect the wheel alignment and adjust if necessary. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-565175-S24455169562013071000000) . CAUTION: When the wheel alignment has been adjusted, perform the 0 point setting mode for each sensor in the VDCCM&H/U. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-565186-S16232332342013071000000) .

  1. Put an alignment mark on the front arm based on the gap of bushing intermediate plate for front bushing. CAUTION: Always put an alignment mark for aligning the position on bushing installation.
  2. Using the ST and a press, remove the front bushing. PREPARATION TOOL: ST: INSTALLER & REMOVER SET (927680000)

  1. Put an alignment mark on the front arm based on the center of rear bushing recess portion. CAUTION: Always put an alignment mark for aligning the position on bushing installation.
  2. Using the ST and a press, remove the rear bushing. PREPARATION TOOL: ST1: REMOVER (20299AG000) ST2: BASE (20299AG010)
  1. Install the strut mount at the upper side of strut to body, and tighten it with new self-locking nuts. Tightening torque: 20 N.m (2.04 kgf-m, 14.8 ft-lb)
  2. Align alignment marks on the camber adjusting bolt and strut. Using new self-locking nuts, install the strut to the front axle housing. NOTE: While holding the head of adjusting bolt, tighten the self-locking nut. Tightening torque: 155 N.m (15.81 kgf-m, 114.3 ft-lb)
  3. Secure the ABS wheel speed sensor harness to the strut.
  4. Install the brake hose bracket. Tightening torque: 33 N.m (3.36 kgf-m, 24.3 ft-lb)
  5. Install the front wheels. Tightening torque: 120 N.m (12.24 kgf-m, 88.5 ft-lb)
  6. Inspect the wheel alignment and adjust if necessary. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-565175-S24455169562013071000000) , Wheel Alignment. CAUTION: When the wheel alignment has been adjusted, perform the 0 point setting mode for each sensor in the VDCCM&H/U. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-565186-S16232332342013071000000) .

Scheme 29: DISASSEMBLY
  1. Using a coil spring compressor, compress the coil spring.
  2. Using the ST, remove the self-locking nut. PREPARATION TOOL: ST: STRUT MOUNT SOCKET (20399AG000)
  3. Remove the strut mount, spacer and upper spring seat from the strut.
  4. Gradually decrease the compression force of compressor, and remove the coil spring.
  5. Remove the dust cover and helper.

  1. Before assembly, check each part. Refer to «INSPECTION»(ref-565175-S27914147742013071000000) .
  2. Using a coil spring compressor, compress the coil spring. NOTE: Make sure that the vertical install direction of the coil spring is as shown in the figure.
  3. Set the coil spring correctly so that its end face seats well in the spring seat as shown in the figure. CAUTION: Install the coil spring so that the end of spring is between the marks on the spring seat.
  4. Install the dust cover and helper to the piston rod.
  5. Pull the piston rod fully upward, and install the spring seat. NOTE: Position the upper spring seat as shown in the figure.
  6. Install the spacer and strut mount to the piston rod, and temporarily tighten a new self-locking nut.
  7. Using a hexagon wrench to prevent strut rod from turning, tighten the new self-locking nut with ST. Preparation tool: ST: STRUT MOUNT SOCKET (20399AG000) Tightening torque: 55 N.m (5.61 kgf-m, 40.6 ft-lb)
  8. Loosen the coil spring compressor carefully.
