CAUTION

  1. Prior to starting work, pay special attention to the following: Always wear work clothes, a safety cap, protective shoes. Additionally, wear a helmet, protective goggles, etc. if necessary. Protect the vehicle using a seat cover, fender cover, etc. Prepare the service tools, clean cloth, containers to catch grease and oil, etc.
  2. Place "NO OPEN FLAMES" signs near the working area.
  3. Prepare a container and cloth to prevent scattering of fuels when performing work where fuels can be spilled. If the oil spills, wipe it off immediately to prevent from penetrating into floor or flowing out for environmental protection.
  4. Vehicle components are extremely hot immediately after driving. Be wary of receiving burns from heated parts.
  5. When performing a repair, identify the cause of trouble and avoid unnecessary removal, disassembly and replacement.
  6. Before disconnecting connectors of sensors or units, be sure to disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  7. Always use the jack-up point when the shop jacks or rigid racks are used to support the vehicle.
  8. Remove contamination including dirt and corrosion before removal, installation, disassembly or assembly.
  9. Keep the removed parts in order and protect them from dust and dirt.
  10. All removed parts, if to be reused, should be reinstalled in the original positions with attention to the correct directions, etc.
  11. Bolts, nuts and washers should be replaced with new parts as required.
  12. Follow all government and local regulations concerning disposal of refuse when disposing fuel.

  1. Remove the collector cover. NOTE: Follow the steps below when removing the collector cover. Pull up the two points at the rear (A). Pull up the two points at the front (B) while moving them forward.
  2. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  3. Loosen the clamp (A) which connects the air intake boot assembly.
  4. Loosen the bolt (B) which secures the air intake boot assembly to the collector cover bracket.
  5. Remove the air intake boot assembly, and move it to the left side wheel apron.
  6. Disconnect the connector from the throttle body.
  7. Disconnect the engine coolant hoses (A) from throttle body.
  8. Remove the bolts which secure the throttle body to the intake manifold.

THROTTLE SENSOR (METHOD WITH SUBARU SELECT MONITOR)

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON. (engine OFF)
  2. Read the throttle opening angle signal and voltage of throttle sensor using Subaru Select Monitor. Refer to «READ CURRENT DATA FOR ENGINE (NORMAL MODE)»(ref-565198-S08829121112013071000000) . CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (METHOD WITH CIRCUIT TESTER)

Measure the resistance between crankshaft position sensor terminals.

  1. Prepare an oscilloscope.
  2. Remove the glove box lid assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-565181-S42510260442013071000000) .
  3. Connect the probe to ECM connector. Terminal No. Probe 17 + 25
  4. Start the engine and let it idle.
  5. Check that the pattern is the same as the waveform and voltage shown below.
  6. After inspection, install the related parts in the reverse order of removal.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Prepare an oscilloscope.

  4. Start the engine and let it idle.
  5. Check that the pattern is the same as the waveform and voltage shown below.
  6. After inspection, install the related parts in the reverse order of removal.

CHECK INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR UNIT

Measure the resistance between intake air temperature sensor terminals.

RH SIDE

  1. Remove the collector cover. NOTE: Follow the steps below when removing the collector cover. Pull up the two points at the rear (A). Pull up the two points at the front (B) while moving them forward.
  2. Release the fuel pressure. Refer to «RELEASING OF FUEL PRESSURE»(ref-565163-S24691353262013071000000) .
  3. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  4. Open the fuel filler lid and remove the fuel filler cap.
  5. Loosen the clamp (A) which connects the air intake boot assembly.
  6. Loosen the bolt (B) which secures the air intake boot assembly to the collector cover bracket.
  7. Remove the air intake boot assembly, and move it to the left side wheel apron.
  8. Remove the air cleaner case. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-565165-S02004603892013071000000) .
  9. Remove the fuel pipe protector RH.
  10. Disconnect the connector from fuel injector.
  11. Remove the bolt which holds fuel injector pipe onto cylinder head.
  12. Remove the fuel injector while lifting up the fuel injector pipe.

LH SIDE

  1. Remove the collector cover. NOTE: Follow the steps below when removing the collector cover. Pull up the two points at the rear (A). Pull up the two points at the front (B) while moving them forward.
  2. Release the fuel pressure. Refer to «RELEASING OF FUEL PRESSURE»(ref-565163-S24691353262013071000000) .
  3. Remove the battery and battery carrier. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-565199-S16388899782013071000000) .
  4. Open the fuel filler lid and remove the fuel filler cap.
  5. Remove the securing clips from the two locations on the fuel pipe protector LH.
  6. Disconnect the PCV hose.
  7. Remove the fuel pipe protector LH.
  8. Disconnect the connector from fuel injector.
  9. Remove the bolt which holds fuel injector pipe onto cylinder head.
  10. Remove the fuel injector while lifting up the fuel injector pipe.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Note. Use new O-rings, injection rubbers, and seal rings.

19 N.m (1.9 kgf-m, 14.0 ft-lb)

  1. Check that the fuel injector has no deformation, cracks or other damages.
  2. Measure the resistance between fuel injector terminals. Terminal No. Standard 1 and 2 Approx. 12.0 ohms (when 20°C (68°F))

  1. Remove the collector cover. NOTE: Follow the steps below when removing the collector cover. Pull up the two points at the rear (A). Pull up the two points at the front (B) while moving them forward.
  2. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the intake oil flow control solenoid valve RH.
  4. Remove the intake oil flow control solenoid valve RH.
  5. Remove the intake oil flow control solenoid valve LH in the same procedure as the intake oil flow control solenoid valve RH.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Lift up the vehicle.
  3. Remove the under cover. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-565181-S28182960572013071000000) .
  4. Disconnect the connector from the exhaust oil flow control solenoid valve LH.
  5. Remove the exhaust oil flow control solenoid valve LH.
  6. Remove the exhaust oil flow control solenoid valve RH in the same procedure as the exhaust oil flow control solenoid valve LH.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Check that the oil flow control solenoid valve has no deformation, cracks or other damages.
  2. Measure the resistance between the oil flow control solenoid valve terminals. Intake oil flow control solenoid valve Exhaust oil flow control solenoid valve Terminal No. Standard 1 and 2 7.4±0.5 ohms (when 20°C (68°F))

  1. Remove the collector cover. NOTE: Follow these procedures for removal of the collector cover. Lift up the rear side holding two positions (A). Lift up the front side holding two positions (B) while moving it in the forward direction of the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  3. Disconnect the connector from oil temperature sensor.
  4. Remove the oil temperature sensor.

RELEASING OF FUEL PRESSURE

WARNINGPlace "NO OPEN FLAMES" signs near the working area.
CAUTIONBe careful not to spill fuel.

  1. Remove the fuse of fuel pump from main fuse box.
  2. Start the engine and run it until it stalls.
  3. After the engine stalls, crank it for five more seconds.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  5. Install the fuse of fuel pump to the main fuse box.

CONNECTING THE FUEL DELIVERY HOSE AND FUEL HOSE

Connect the fuel delivery hose as shown in the figure.

CAUTIONIf the connection portion has a spool or stopper, do not allow the end of the hose to bend or ride over by inserting the hose too deep. Be sure to inspect hoses and their connections for any leakage of fuel.

Note. Use new fuel delivery hose and fuel hose.

Tightening torque

1.25 N.m (0.1 kgf-m, 0.9 ft-lb)

L1: 2.5±1.5 mm (0.098±0.059 in)

L2: 22.5±2.5 mm (0.886±0.098 in)

EVAPORATION HOSE CONNECTION

Connect the evaporation hose to the pipe with an overlap of 15 to 20 mm (0.59 to 0.79 in).

L = 17.5±2.5 mm (0.689±0.098 in)

CONNECTING THE EVAPORATION LINE QUICK CONNECTOR

CAUTIONMake sure there are no damage or dust on connections. If necessary, clean the seal surface of the pipe. Make sure that the quick connector is securely connected.

Connect the quick connector as shown in the figure.
