Lighting System (Except Sti): Other Subaru Impreza GH

CAUTION

  1. Before removing or installing parts, always disconnect the battery ground cable from battery. When replacing the audio, control module and other parts provided with memory functions, record the memory contents before disconnecting the battery ground cable. Otherwise, the memory is cleared.
  2. Reassemble the parts in the reverse order of disassembly procedure unless otherwise indicated.
  3. Adjust parts to the given specifications.
  4. Connect the connectors securely during reassembly.
  5. After reassembly, make sure functional parts operate smoothly.
WARNINGThe airbag system wiring harness is routed near electrical parts and switches. Do not use electrical test devices on any airbag system wiring harnesses or connector circuits. Be careful not to damage the airbag system wiring harness when servicing electrical parts and switches.

HEADLIGHT RELAY

Measure the headlight relay resistance between terminals when connecting terminal No. 4 to the battery positive terminal and terminal No. 3 to the battery ground terminal.

Measure the resistance between the daytime running relay terminals when connecting terminal No. 3 to the battery positive terminal and terminal No. 5 to the battery ground terminal.

  2. Remove the screws and remove the steering column cover lower.
  3. Remove the three mounting screws of steering column cover upper.
  4. Disconnect the connector from combination switch.
  5. Remove the three screws, and pull out the combination base switch assembly.
  6. Remove the screws which secure the switch, then remove the combination switch.

  1. Remove the driver's airbag module. Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-357264-S20493109892010031100000) , Driver's Airbag Module.
  2. Remove the steering wheel. Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-357258-S09754233232010031100000) , Steering Wheel.
  3. Remove the combination switch. REMOVAL, Combination Switch (Light).> Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-357288-S11109972232010031100000) , Combination Switch (Wiper).
  4. Remove the four screws and remove the roll connector.
  5. Remove the three screws.
  6. Disconnect the harness connector and remove the combination base switch assembly.

HID HEADLIGHT BALLAST

CAUTIONDo not perform work with wet hands. The HID headlight uses very high voltages for the lighting circuit. Make sure that the power is turned OFF before working. Do not leave the headlight without the ballast for a long time. Dust, moisture, etc. entering the headlight may affect its performance.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove the headlight assembly. REMOVAL, Headlight Assembly.>
  3. Remove the back cover.
  4. Disconnect the harness connector.
  5. Remove the harness connector and screws to pull out the ballast.
  6. Remove the harness connector and screws on the back to remove the headlight ballast.

CAUTIONWhen installing the ballast cover, be sure to install the gasket. After installing the ballast to the vehicle, be sure to perform beam adjustment.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

1.3 N.m (0.13 kgf-m, 0.96 ft-lb)

Note. Adjust the projector lens to near the center of the extension opening before installing the ballast. This makes the beam adjustment work easier.

HIGH BEAM & HALOGEN TYPE LOW BEAM

CAUTIONBecause the halogen bulb operates at a high temperature, dirt and oil on the bulb surface reduces the bulb's service life. Hold the flange portion when replacing the bulb. Never touch the glass portion. Do not leave the headlight without a bulb for a long time. Dust, moisture, etc. entering the headlight may affect its performance.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove the air intake duct. (When removing the headlight bulb RH).
  3. Remove the battery cover. (When removing the headlight bulb LH)
  4. Tilt the washer tank filler neck. (When removing the headlight bulb LH)
  5. Disconnect the harness connector.
  6. Remove the bulb assembly (A) then remove the high beam. To remove the low beam, remove the back cover (B), and then go to step 7.
  7. Disconnect the harness connector, and remove the bulb.

HID TYPE LOW BEAM

CAUTIONDo not work with wet hands. Because the lighting circuit uses high voltage, be sure to confirm that the power supply is turned off before operation. When replacing the bulb, hold the flange portion, and never touch the glass. Do not leave the headlight without a bulb for a long time. Dust, moisture, etc. entering the headlight may affect its performance.
  1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
  2. Remove the headlight assembly. REMOVAL, Headlight Assembly.>
  3. Remove the back cover.
  4. Disconnect the harness connector.
  5. Remove the light bulb retaining spring, and remove the bulb.

HALOGEN TYPE

  1. Visually check the bulb for blow out.
  2. Check the bulb specification. SPECIFICATION, General Description.>
  3. If NG, replace the bulb with a new part.

HID TYPE

CAUTIONDo not perform work with wet hands. When lit (lighting switch is ON), do not touch the harness, light internals, or metal parts of the light. When performing a lighting test, make sure that the headlight is mounted on the vehicle, and the power supply is connected to the connector on the vehicle's side.
  1. Check the bulb specification. SPECIFICATION, General Description.>
  2. Install the factory HID bulb to check whether it lights properly.
  3. If it does not light properly, replace with a new bulb.
  4. inspect the HID ballast. Inspect the ballast in the following manner, and determine whether or not to reuse. Perform cold starts (light the headlight after turning off for 10 minutes or more), and hot starts (light the headlight for 15 minutes or more, then turn off for 1 minute and relight) several times, to make sure that the headlight lights properly. Monitor the lighting condition right after a cold start up to a stable state (approx. 5 min.), to see if there are any unstable conditions such as flickering. Install bulbs with the same number of operating hours on both headlights, and light for approximately 30 minutes. Check for whether there is a difference in brightness on the right and left sides.
  5. If there is a malfunction, replace with a new ballast.

4 DOOR MODEL

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove the trunk room side trim. Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-357250-S39514977662010031100000) , Trunk Room Trim.
  3. Remove the harness connector and four nuts, and remove the rear combination light.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
  2. Remove the two bolts, and then detach the rear combination light by pulling it to the rear side of vehicle.
  3. Disconnect the harness connector and rear combination light.
  1. Visually check the bulb for blow out.
  2. Check the bulb specification. SPECIFICATION, General Description.>
  3. If NG, replace the bulb with a new part.

5 DOOR MODEL

  1. Install the rear combination light assembly and check that it blinks normally.
  2. If it does not blink normally, replace the rear combination light assembly with a new part.

Note. Since LED (Light Emitting Diode) is used for the tail light/stop light bulb, replace the rear combination light assembly if the LED burns out.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove the trunk room side trim cover. Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-357250-S39514977662010031100000) , Trunk Room Trim.
  3. Turn the socket and remove the bulb.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
  2. Disconnect the connector of the high-mounted stop light from the body harness.
  3. Remove the bolt, then remove the high-mounted stop light assembly.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
  2. Remove the rear spoiler. Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-357250-S32706162292010031100000) , Rear Spoiler.
  3. Remove the caps and screws, then detach the high-mounted stop light.

5 DOOR MODEL (WITH BUILT-IN SMALL TYPE ROOF SPOILER)

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
  2. Remove the roof spoiler. Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-357250-S06565692842010031100000) , Roof Spoiler.
  3. Remove the nuts, then detach the high-mounted stop light.

5 DOOR MODEL (WITH BUILT-IN LARGE TYPE ROOF SPOILER)

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove the roof spoiler. Ref. to «REMOVAL»(ref-357250-S06565692842010031100000) , Roof Spoiler.
  3. Remove the caps and screws, then detach the high-mounted stop light.

  3. If NG, replace the bulb with a new part.

EXCEPT FOR 4 DOOR MODEL (STANDARD TYPE)

  1. Install the high-mounted stop light to test if it illuminates normally.
  2. If the high-mounted stop light does not illuminate, replace it with a new part.

Note. Since LED (Light Emitting Diode) is used for the high-mounted stop light, replace the high-mounted stop light assembly if the LED burns out.
