Lighting System: Removal & Installation Subaru Forester SH

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the screws, and remove the steering column lower cover.
3. Remove the screws and steering column upper cover.
4. Disconnect the connector from the combination switch.
5. Remove the screws which secure the switch, then remove the combination switch.

INSTALLATION

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Remove the driver's airbag module. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325330-S32011969732009071800000) , Driver's Airbag Module .
2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325326-S33613879102009071800000) , Steering Wheel .
3. Remove the screws, and remove the steering column lower cover.
4. Remove the screws and steering column upper cover.
5. Remove the combination switch. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325323-S34432426462009071800000) , Combination Switch (Light) . Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325353-S39360544942009071800000) , Combination Switch (Wiper) .
6. Remove the four screws and remove the roll connector.
7. Remove the three screws.
8. Disconnect the connector and remove the combination base switch assembly.

1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
2. Before installing steering wheel, be sure to adjust the direction of roll connector with steering. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-325330-S11552533872009071800000) , Roll Connector .

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the air intake duct (rear). (When removing the headlight RH).
3. Remove the front bumper. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325318-S39345979402009071800000) , Front Bumper .
4. Disconnect harness connectors.
5. Remove the three bolts, disengage the clip, then detach the headlight assembly.

Scheme 9

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Turn socket (A) and remove the bulb.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Turn socket (A) and remove the bulb.

Scheme 11

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Turn socket (A) and remove the bulb.

Scheme 12

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the fog light cover.
3. Disengage the three clips, then peel the mud guard.
4. Disconnect the harness connector.
5. Remove the plastic nut and bolt, and remove the fog light assembly.

Scheme 13

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Disengage the three clips, and then turn over the mud guard.
3. Disconnect the harness connector.
4. Rotate the bulb then detach the fog light bulb.

Scheme 14

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the two bolts, and then detach the rear combination light by pulling it to the rear side of vehicle.
3. Disconnect the harness connector and rear combination light.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

1. Remove the rear combination light assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325323-S24233034452009071800000) , Rear Combination Light Assembly .
2. Turn socket (A) and remove the bulb.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Remove the rear combination light assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325323-S24233034452009071800000) , Rear Combination Light Assembly .
2. Turn socket (A) and remove the bulb.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Remove the rear combination light assembly. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325323-S24233034452009071800000) , Rear Combination Light Assembly .
2. Turn socket (A) and remove the bulb.

Scheme 17

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the screws and remove the license plate light.
3. Remove the bulb.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

1.5 N.m (0.15 kgf-m, 1.1 ft-lb)

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the caps and screws, then detach the high-mounted stop light cover.
3. Remove the screws, then detach the high-mounted stop light.

Scheme 18

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

1.5 N.m (0.15 kgf-m, 1.1 ft-lb)

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Push open the rear end of the overhead console lid, and remove the screws.
3. Disconnect the harness connectors and remove the spot map light.

Note. The spot map light is a single unit with the overhead console.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Insert a flat tip screwdriver into the edge of the luggage room light body to remove the luggage room light.
3. Disconnect the harness connector and remove the lens.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Insert a flat tip screwdriver into the edge of the door step light body to remove the door step light.
3. Disconnect the harness connector.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the screw and steering lower cover.
3. Remove the screws and steering upper cover.
4. Remove the instrument panel lower cover. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325318-S37737369262009071800000) , Instrument Panel Lower Cover .
5. Disconnect the ignition switch illumination connector (A).
6. Turn the ignition switch illumination connector to the left and disconnect it.

Scheme 19

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect the connector, and remove the unit.

Scheme 20

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

Note. Perform reinitialization if the auto head light leveler control module was removed. Refer to PROCEDURE , Auto Headlight Beam Leveler System .

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Lift up the vehicle and remove the left front wheel.
3. Remove the under cover.
4. Disconnect the sensor connector.
5. Remove the bracket from the front crossmember.
6. Remove the bracket from the transverse link.

1. Align the bracket clip with the front crossmember installation hole, and install the bracket.
2. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

Note. Perform reinitialization if the front vehicle height sensor was removed. Refer to PROCEDURE , Auto Headlight Beam Leveler System .

1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Lift up the vehicle and remove the left rear wheel.
3. Disconnect the sensor connector, remove the nut and remove the rear vehicle height sensor.

Scheme 21

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 f-lb)

Note. Perform reinitialization if the rear vehicle height sensor was removed. Refer to PROCEDURE , Auto Headlight Beam Leveler System .

1. Remove the front bumper. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-325318-S39345979402009071800000) , Front Bumper .
2. Disconnect the harness connector.
3. Remove the mounting nut, then remove the daytime running resistor.

Scheme 22

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Remove the plastic nut (A) of the reflex reflector from the backside of the bumper.
2. Press the tabs (B) to remove the reflex reflector.

Scheme 23

Install in the reverse order of removal.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the screw, and pull out the door switch.
3. Disconnect the harness connector.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
