Washer System & Wiper System: Overview Subaru Forester SF

Operational Test

Disconnect washer motor harness connector. Apply positive battery voltage to terminal No. 2 and ground to terminal No. 1 of washer motor connector. (Scheme 1) If motor does not operate, replace washer motor.

Scheme 1

Operational Test (Forester & Legacy)

1. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 2 and ground terminal No. 6 of wiper motor connector. (Scheme 2) If wiper operates at low speed, go to next step. If wiper does not operate or operates at a high speed, replace wiper motor.
2. Connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 3 and ground terminal No. 6 of wiper motor connector. (Scheme 2) If wiper operates at a faster speed than in step 1), go to next step. If wiper motor does not operate or operates at same speed as in step 1), replace wiper motor.
3. Connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 2 and ground terminal No. 6. After operating motor at low speed, disconnect positive battery voltage from terminal No. 2 to stop motor. Reconnect positive battery to terminal No. 4 and ground terminal No. 6. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 2 and 5. Motor should operate, then automatically stop. Replace motor as necessary.

Scheme 2

Operational Test (Impreza)

1. Disconnect wiper motor harness connector. Connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 2 and ground terminal No. 4 of wiper motor connector. (Scheme 3) If wiper operates at low speed, go to next step. If wiper does not operate or operates at a high speed, replace wiper motor.
2. Connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 3 and ground terminal No. 4 of wiper motor connector. (Scheme 3) If wiper operates at a faster speed than in step 1), go to next step. If wiper motor does not operate or operates at same speed as in step 1), replace wiper motor.
3. Connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 2 and ground terminal No. 4. After operating motor at low speed, disconnect positive battery voltage from terminal No. 2 to stop motor. Reconnect positive battery to terminal No. 5 and ground terminal No. 4. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 1 and 2. Motor should operate, then automatically stop. Replace motor as necessary.

Scheme 3

1. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 2 and ground terminal No. 3 of wiper motor connector. (Scheme 4) If wiper motor operates, go to next step. If wiper motor does not operate, replace wiper motor.
2. Connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 2 and ground terminal No. 3 of wiper motor connector. (Scheme 4) Remove positive battery voltage and ground from motor. Ensure motor stops in middle of stroke. Go to next step.
3. Connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 1 and ground terminal No. 3 of wiper motor connector. Using a jumper wire, connect terminals No. 2 and 4. Motor should operate, then automatically stop. Replace motor as necessary.
