FRONT
Front wiper switch is part of combination switch on steering column. On systems equipped with intermittent wiper function, time delay is controlled by intermittent unit that is part of combination switch.
REAR (WAGON)
Rear wiper switch is part of combination switch on steering column. Rear wiper switch grounds solenoid coil in rear wiper relay, energizing relay and allowing power to rear wiper motor.

| WARNING | Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy. |
| WARNING | Air bag system wiring harness, identified by Yellow connectors, is routed near instrument cluster. DO NOT use electrical test equipment on air bag system connectors or harness. |
Continuity Tests (Forester)
- Remove rear wiper relay from behind right rear wheelwell. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 1 and 2. (Scheme 20) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace relay.
- Apply battery voltage to relay terminal No. 1 and ground to terminal No. 2. Check continuity between terminals No. 3 and 5. (Scheme 20) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace relay.
- Check continuity between terminals No. 3 and 4. If continuity exists, relay is okay. If continuity does not exist, replace relay.

Continuity Tests (Impreza & Legacy)
- Remove rear wiper relay from behind right rear wheelwell. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 1 and 2. (Scheme 21) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace relay.
- Apply battery voltage to relay terminal No. 1 and ground to terminal No. 2. Check continuity between terminals No. 3 and 4. (Scheme 21) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace relay.
- Check continuity between terminals No. 3 and 5. If continuity exists, relay is okay. If continuity does not exist, replace relay.
