IDENTIFICATION
Transaxle is identified by the 11th character of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). An "H" or "7" identifies AWD A/T models, "9" identifies a FWD A/T model and an "8" identifies a postal model. Transaxle serial number label is located on upper surface of case or converter housing near starter.
DESCRIPTION
Automatic transaxle is electronically controlled by a Transmission Control Module (TCM). The TCM controls shift points, engine braking, lock-up torque converter operation and other various operations. Transmission features a hydraulic lock-up torque converter, 2 planetary gear sets, 2 one-way clutches, 4 multi-plate clutches and a brake band. Electronically controlled full-time AWD system has a transfer hydraulic pressure control unit incorporating duty solenoid and multi-plate transfer type clutch on rear of transmission. (Scheme 1)
