PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT Using the Techstream, check if LIN communication DTC B2785 is output. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2013 - ]»(ref-612424-S37216714312014042900000) . HINT: If a LIN communication DTC is output, perform troubleshooting for the LIN communication system. Refer to «HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [12/2013 - ]»(ref-612424-S25515043962014042900000) . RESULT Result Proceed to DTC B2785 is output A DTC B2785 is not output B B --> See step 3 A --> See step 2
  2. GO TO LIN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (DTC B2785). Refer to «DISASSEMBLY [12/2013 - ]»(ref-612396-S39743760302014042900000)
  3. REPLACE STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (STEERING LOCK ECU). Refer to «DTC B2785: Communication Malfunction between ECUs Connected by LIN»(ref-612426-S26748582612014042900000)
  1. CHECK STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (STEERING LOCK ECU) (MOTOR ACTIVATION COMMAND SIGNAL) Disconnect the D59 steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU) connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition D59-1 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 ohms Reconnect the D59 steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU) connector. Turn the engine switch off, make sure that the steering is unlocked and move the shift lever to P*. *: for Automatic Transmission Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below. STANDARD FREQUENCY Item Content Tester Connection D59-3 (SLR+) - D59-1 (GND) Tool Setting 2 V/DIV., 200 ms./DIV. In order to take measurements when the lock motor is operating, perform either of the following operations: To unlock the steering, carry the key and turn the engine switch on (ACC) or on (IG). To lock the steering, turn the engine switch off with the shift lever in P*, and then open a door. *: for Automatic Transmission NG --> See step 4 OK: Go to next step
  2. CLEAR DTC AND DATA LIST MALFUNCTION RECORD Clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2013 - ]»(ref-612423-S20015669982014042900000) . Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, wait for 30 seconds or more, and then reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal to clear the record of malfunctions stored. NOTE: After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notices before proceeding with work. Refer to «PRECAUTION [07/2013 - ]»(ref-612229-S41967653852014042900000) . NEXT: Go to next step
  3. CHECK DTC AND READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (POWER SUPPLY SHORT) Perform the DTC output confirmation operation. Check if DTC B2782 is output. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2013 - ]»(ref-612423-S20015669982014042900000) . Use the Data List to check if the steering lock control is functioning properly. SMART KEY Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note Power Supply Short Record of malfunction of signal sent to steering lock actuator assembly (motor) from certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) (short circuit) / OK or NG (Past) OK: No record of malfunction (short circuit) NG (Past): Record of malfunction (short circuit) exists This item records malfunctions in the circuit between the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) and steering lock actuator assembly (motor). RESULT Result Proceed to B2782 is not output "OK" is displayed on the Techstream. A B2782 is output "NG (Past)" is displayed on the Techstream. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) - STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (STEERING LOCK ECU)) Disconnect the D41 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector. Disconnect the D59 steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU) connector. Check for deformation and corrosion of the connector case and terminals. OK There is no deformation or corrosion of the connector case or terminals. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.   1. CHECK DTC (ALL) Using the Techstream, confirm the output of DTCs for all systems. OK No DTCs are output. NOTE: When using the Techstream with the engine switch off, connect the Techstream to the vehicle and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less until communication between the Techstream and the vehicle begins. Then select the vehicle type under manual mode and enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Smart Key. While using the Techstream, periodically turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less to maintain communication between the Techstream and the vehicle. Make sure that no DTCs are output. If any DTCs are output, proceed to Diagnostic Trouble Code Chart. Refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2013 - ]»(ref-612423-S01466921822014042900000) . NG --> REPAIR CIRCUITS INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTCS OK: Go to next step
  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (LOCK REQUEST RECEIVE) Use the Data List to check if the steering lock command is functioning properly. SMART KEY Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note Lock Request Receive*1 Reception state of steering lock command signal determined by certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) and sent to ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) / OK or NG HINT: The reception state is maintained for 10 seconds. When 10 seconds or more elapse after receiving the signal, the item changes to "NG" OK: Within 10 seconds of opening any door with engine switch off and shift lever in P*3 NG: Except above If this item does not change to "OK" even though the steering lock conditions are met, the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) may be malfunctioning. Lock Request Receive*2 Reception state of steering lock command signal determined by certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) / OK or NG HINT: The reception state is maintained for 10 seconds. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (D DOOR COURTESY SW) Using the Techstream, check the following main body ECU (network gateway ECU) Data List item by opening and closing the driver door to confirm the state of the driver side door courtesy light switch. MAIN BODY Tester Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note D Door Courtesy SW Driver side door courtesy switch / ON or OFF ON: Driver side door open OFF: Driver side door closed If this item does not change according to the actual state of the driver side door, there is a malfunction in the door courtesy light switch or related part. The steering cannot be locked. The steering cannot be unlocked (the engine cannot be started). OK OK is displayed on the Techstream. HINT: Reasons for verification failure: The steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU) or certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is malfunctioning. There is a problem with the communication between ECUs. An ECU is replaced, but is not registered. An ECU is replaced with an ECU which has a code already stored in it.   7. REPLACE STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (STEERING LOCK ECU) Replace the steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU) with a new one. Refer to «DISASSEMBLY [12/2013 - ]»(ref-612396-S39743760302014042900000) . Perform registration. Refer to «REGISTRATION [12/2013 - ]»(ref-612251-S41700728192014042900000) . Turn the engine switch on (IG). Turn the steering wheel and check the steering condition. OK Steering is unlocked. NG --> See step 16 OK --> END

  1. CHECK DTC (ALL) Using the Techstream, confirm the output of DTCs for all systems. OK No DTCs are output. When the key is inside the vehicle and the shift lever in P*1, check that pressing the engine switch with the brake pedal*1 or clutch pedal*2 released causes the power source mode to change as follows: *1: for Automatic Transmission *2: for Manual Transmission OK Off --> on (ACC) --> on (IG) --> off NG --> See step 16 OK: Go to next step

In order to take measurements when the lock motor is operating, perform either of the following operations: To unlock the steering, carry the key and turn the engine switch on (ACC) or on (IG).
