DESCRIPTION
Front wiper motor/control module (referred to as wiper module in this article) contains a 2-speed wiper motor and a microprocessor. (Scheme 1) The microprocessor controls power supply to the washer pump and wiper motor. This is a depressed-park system (wipers park below the bottom of windshield). Front wiper switch (multifunction switch) controls LOW, HIGH, INTERMITTENT, MIST, OFF and WASH modes.
A rear wiper/washer system is available on station wagon models. Power is provided to wiper motor through window relay. System operation is controlled by a rotary switch located on multifunction switch lever. Washer fluid reservoir and pump are mounted in right rear wheelwell trim panel. Rear wiper switch controls OFF, ON and WASH modes.
OPERATION
The front wiper system activates immediately whenever switch is turned on. In INT 1 position, wipers cycle every 2 seconds. In INT 2 position, wipers cycle every 7 seconds, and in INT 3 position, every 12 seconds. In LOW speed, wipers cycle about 42-52 times per minute. In HIGH speed, wipers cycle about 61-73 cycles per minute on a wet windshield. When switch is pushed down to MIST position, wipers cycle once as long as switch is held down. When switch is in WASH position, wipers and washer pump activate within one second. Wipers cycle twice and washer pump remains on as long as switch is activated. When switch is released, wipers park after 2 cycles. With wiper switch set in LOW position, crank engine. Wipers should stop moving and start again once ignition switch is back in RUN position.
