Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid (Except 1.9L)

Note. Some solenoids may have an internal pressure switch in series with the solenoid winding and will not show continuity until transmission hydraulic pressure is applied.

Disconnect Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between appropriate TCC solenoid terminals. Solenoid resistance should be greater than 20 ohms.

Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid (1.9L)

  1. Disconnect transaxle harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between TCC solenoid terminals "E" and "K". (Scheme 3) If resistance is not 3.5-6.0 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 3.5-6.0 ohms, check for poor terminal connection at transaxle harness connector. Repair as necessary. If connection is okay, replace PCM.
  2. Remove TCC solenoid connector plate. Using DVOM, measure resistance between TCC solenoid terminals "E" and "K". (Scheme 3) If resistance is less than 4 ohms, replace TCC solenoid. If resistance is greater than 4 ohms, replace TCC solenoid connector plate.

Torque Converter Lock-Up Signal From PCM

  1. Warm engine to operating temperature. Raise vehicle and support drive wheels. Support suspension where necessary to prevent damage to drive axles.
  2. Connect a test light to battery voltage. Touch TCC control driver terminal with test light. Accelerate vehicle to 45 MPH and note test light. If test light does not illuminate, problem is a faulty PCM connector or PCM.

Torque Converter Lock-Up Signal At Transmission

  1. Warm engine to operating temperature. Raise vehicle and support drive wheels. Support suspension where necessary to prevent damage to drive axles.
  2. Disconnect torque converter clutch harness connector at transmission. Connect a test light between appropriate torque converter clutch harness connector terminals. Start engine and place transmission in Drive. Accelerate vehicle to 45 MPH and note test light.
  3. If test light does not illuminate, check for open or short to ground in solenoid power supply circuit of torque converter clutch harness connector. Also, check for open in ground circuit between torque converter clutch harness connector and PCM. If circuit is okay, see «TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK-UP SIGNAL FROM PCM»(ref-180-S24509307692000030800000) .
