Intermittent

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

Rear Release Inoperative with Transmitter

Rear Release Inoperative with Transmitter

Transmitter Programming

IMPORTANTUp to 4 transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle. The order in which the transmitters are programmed is important. The first transmitter programmed will be transmitter #1, and the second transmitter programmed will be transmitter #2. Use care to program the transmitters correctly.

Programming RKE Transmitters

IMPORTANTAll key fobs must be programmed each time any one fob is programmed. The scan tool must stay connected until all of the transmitters are programmed.
  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Select Remote Function Actuation.
  4. Select Special Functions.
  5. Select Program Key Fobs.
  6. Select the number of key fobs to be programmed.
  7. Press and hold the LOCK and the UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the first transmitter for approximately 15 seconds. The Power Locks should cycle to confirm programming of the first fob is complete.
  8. If you are programming more than one transmitter, repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
  9. Remove the scan tool.
  10. Exit the vehicle. Attempt to lock/unlock the doors to verify the programming.
  11. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

The keyless entry system is a supplementary vehicle entry device. Radio frequencies or discharged batteries may disable the system.

Keyless entry allows you to operate the following components

  1. The door locks
  2. The rear compartment lid release
  3. The illuminated entry lamps
  4. The panic alarm (instant alarm)

The keyless entry system has the following main components

  1. The transmitters
  2. The body control module (BCM)

When you press a button on a transmitter, the transmitter sends a signal to the BCM. The BCM interprets the signal and activates the requested function.

Unlock Driver's Door Only

Momentarily press the UNLOCK button in order to perform the following functions

  1. Unlock the driver door only.
  2. Illuminate the interior lamps for approximately 20 seconds or until the ignition is turned ON.
  3. Flash the daytime running lamps, if selected ON in personalization.
  4. Disarm the content theft deterrent (CTD) system, if equipped.
  5. Chirp the horn, if selected ON in personalization.
  6. Identify the driver to the radio.

Lock All Doors

Press the LOCK button in order to perform the following functions

  1. Lock all of the doors.
  2. Immediately turn off the interior lamps.
  3. Flash the daytime running lamps, if selected ON in personalization.
  4. Chirp the horn, if selected ON in personalization.
  5. Arm the content theft deterrent (CTD) system after all of the doors are closed.

Rear Compartment Lid Release

If the vehicle transaxle is in PARK or NEUTRAL and the ignition is in the OFF position, a single press of the rear compartment release button will open the rear compartment lid. The interior lamps will not illuminate.

Alarm

A single press of the panic button performs the following functions

  1. Illuminates the interior lamps.
  2. Pulses the horn.
  3. Flashes the daytime running lamps for 2 minutes or until the following conditions occur: The panic button is pressed again. The ignition switch is turned to the RUN position with a valid key.

Rolling Code

The keyless entry system uses rolling code technology. Rolling code technology prevents anyone from recording the message sent from the transmitter and using the message in order to gain entry to the vehicle. The term "rolling code" refers to the way that the keyless entry system sends and receives the signals. The transmitter sends the signal in a different order each time. The transmitter and the body control module (BCM) are synchronized to the appropriate order. If a programmed transmitter sends a signal that is not in the order that the BCM expects, the system will not function. This occurs after 256 presses of any button on the transmitter when it is out of range of the vehicle.

Automatic Synchronization

The keyless entry transmitters do not require a manual synchronization procedure. If needed, the transmitters automatically resynchronize when any button on the transmitter is pressed within range of the vehicle. The transmitter will operate normally after the automatic synchronization.
