Mirror Systems: Removal & Installation Saturn Astra I

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the rearview mirror opening cover.
2. Loosen the 4 top clips (1).
3. Release the 4 lower clips (2).

Installation Procedure

Install the rearview mirror opening cover.

1. Install the 4 lower clips.
2. Install the 4 top clips.

1. Remove the protective cover from the inside remote control knob.
2. Remove the cover (1) from the upper extension trim panel.
3. Remove the upper extension trim panel (2). Release the 3 clips.
4. Remove the remote control knob (1) from the manual mirror. Remove the 2 bolts, (arrows). Remove the mirror remote control knob.

1. Install the remote control knob to the manual mirror. Insert the knob. Tighten: Tighten the 2 bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
2. Install the upper extension panel. Install the 3 clips.
3. Install the protective cover to the upper extension panel.
4. Install the cover.

1. Remove the upper extension trim panel. Release the 3 clips.
2. Remove the front door outer mirror. Remove the 3 bolts.
3. Remove the protective cover (1) from the outer mirror inner paneling (2). Remove the protective cover.

1. Install the protective cover.
2. Install the protective cover in the outer mirror inner paneling.
3. Install the front door outer mirror. Tighten: Tighten the 3 bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
4. Install the upper extension trim panel. Install the 3 clips.

1. Remove the upper extension trim panel.
2. Release the 3 clips.
3. Disconnect the wiring harness plug.
4. Remove the front door outer mirror. Disconnect the wiring harness plug. Remove the 3 bolts. Remove the outer mirror.

1. Install the front door outer mirror. Tighten: Tighten the 3 bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
2. Connect the wiring harness plug.
3. Install the outer mirror inner paneling.
4. Connect the wiring harness plug.
5. Install the 3 clips.
6. Perform the operational inspection.

1. Remove the mirror glass.
2. Position the mirror face forward.
3. Position the mirror glass into the top right, left door, or the top left, right door.
4. Carefully pry out the mirror glass with a plastic wedge.
5. Remove the wiring harness plug for the mirror heating (1).

1. Install the mirror glass.
2. Install the wiring harness plug.
3. Position and install the mirror glass in the mirror.
4. Position the mirror back to the original position.

1. Remove the inside rear view mirror.
2. Remove the rain sensor cover.
3. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (1).
4. Compress the clamp (2) and pull the mirror downwards to remove.

1. Install the interior rear view mirror.
2. If removed, install the spring catch to the mirror.
3. Replace the mirror and listen for the click.
4. Connect the wiring harness plug.
5. Install the rain sensor cover.

1. Remove the inner rearview mirror from the retaining plate. Release the rain sensor cover. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (1). Compress the clamp (2) and pull the mirror downwards to remove.
2. Clean the windshield in the area to be cemented with glass cleaner.
3. Place masking tape around the area on the windshield where the retaining plate is to be cemented. Gently sand the retaining plate (grain P100) and clean.

1. Affix the retaining plate. Mix the 2-component adhesive GM P/N 89021329 (Canadian P/N 89020893) in accordance with the instructions and apply to the retaining plate approximately 1 mm (0.039 in) thick. Only press the retaining plate lightly onto the windshield. Fasten the retaining plate. Retaining plate position: I = 20 mm (0.78 in) from edge of molded headlining. II = middle windshield.
2. Install the interior rearview mirror. Replace the mirror and listen for the click. Connect the wiring harness plug. Install the rain sensor cover.

1. Detach the inside rearview mirror. Unlock the mirror downward and remove.
2. Clean the windshield in the area to be cemented with glass cleaner.
3. Place the masking tape around the area on windshield where the retaining plate is to be cemented. Gently sand the retaining plate (grain P100) and clean.

1. Affix the retaining plate. Mix the 2-component adhesive GM P/N 89021329 (Canadian P/N 89020893) in accordance with the instructions and apply to the retaining plate approximately 1 mm (0.039 in) thick. Only press the retaining plate lightly onto the windshield.
2. Attach the interior rearview mirror.
3. Replace the mirror and listen for the click.
