REPLACEMENT

Note. If a component is replaced, add an appropriate amount of compressor oil. When replacing the compressor, the new compressor will already have the specified amount of oil in it. Install the new compressor after removing the same amount of oil that is remaining in the compressor removed.

REPLACEMENT PARTS AND AMOUNT OF OIL REPLENISHMENT REFERENCE

REMOVAL

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

Remove the glove box.

Loosen the nut to remove the support beam stay.

Disconnect the blower motor connector.

Disconnect the power transistor or blower resistor connector.

Loosen the bolt and nut to remove the blower motor unit assembly.

INSTALLATION

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Tightening torque

Refer to COMPONENT in General Description.

Remove the glove box.

Disconnect the power transistor connector.

Loosen the two screws to remove the power transistor.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Remove the glove box.

Disconnect the blower resistor connector.

Loosen the two screws to remove the blower resistor.

Measure the blower resistor resistance.

BLOWER RESISTOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

If NG, replace the blower resistor.

Remove the heater and cooling unit.

Loosen the screws to remove the heater core cover.

Remove the heater core.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Disconnect the ground terminal from battery.

Remove the glove box.

Remove the lower panel.

Remove the control wires.

Remove the console front panel.

Remove the center console panel.

Remove four screws.

Pull out the control unit and disconnect connectors.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

Remove the console front panel.

Remove the center console panel.

Disconnect the connector and aspirator hose (A).

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Perform the compressor oil return operation.

Turn the A/C switch OFF and stop the engine.

Using the refrigerant recovery system, discharge refrigerant.

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

Remove the V-belt. or

Remove the generator.

Remove the low-pressure hose and high-pressure hose.

Disconnect the compressor harness from body harness.

Loosen the bolts to remove the compressor bracket.

Remove the bolts, and then separate the compressor and bracket.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Replace the O-rings on low/high pressure hoses with new ones, then apply compressor oil.

When replacing compressor, adjust amount of compressor oil.

Charge refrigerant.

Tightening torque

Refer to COMPONENT in General Description.

Using the refrigerant recovery system, discharge refrigerant.

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

Remove the front bumper.

Disconnect the pressure hose and pipe from condenser.

Remove the radiator bracket (A).

Remove the two bolts. While lifting the condenser, pull it out through the space between radiator and radiator panel.

IMPORTANTBe careful not to damage the condenser fins. If a damaged fin is found, repair it using a thin screwdriver. If the condenser is replaced, add appropriate amount of compressor oil to the compressor.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

IMPORTANTReplace the O-rings on hoses or pipes with new ones, and then apply compressor oil. Confirm that lower guide of condenser (A) has been fitted into holes on radiator panel.

Charge refrigerant.

Tightening torque

Refer to COMPONENT in General Description.

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

Using the refrigerant recovery system, discharge refrigerant.

Drain LLC from the radiator.

Remove the bolt securing expansion valve and pipe in engine compartment. Release the heater hose clamps in engine compartment to remove the hoses.

Remove the instrument panel.

Remove the support beam.

Remove the blower motor unit assembly.

Disconnect the servo motor connectors.

Loosen the bolt and nuts to remove the heater and cooling unit.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Charge refrigerant.

Tightening torque

Refer to COMPONENT in General Description.

Remove the heater and cooling unit.

Loosen the screws and clip to remove the evaporator cover.

Remove the evaporator.

Loosen the two bolts to remove the expansion valve.

IMPORTANTIf the evaporator is replaced, add appropriate amount of compressor oil to evaporator.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

IMPORTANTWhen disconnecting/connecting hoses, do not apply excessive force to them. Confirm that no torsion and excessive tension exists after installing. Seal the disconnected hose with a plug or vinyl tape to prevent contamination from entering.

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

Using the refrigerant recovery system, discharge refrigerant.

Remove the evaporator unit mounting bolt (A).

Remove the low-pressure hose attaching bolts (B).

Disconnect the low-pressure hose from evaporator unit.

Disconnect the low-pressure hose from compressor.

Remove the low-pressure hose from vehicle.

Remove the high-pressure hose attaching bolts (C).

Disconnect the high-pressure hose from compressor.

Disconnect the high-pressure hose from condenser.

Remove the high-pressure hose from vehicle.

Remove the high-pressure tube attaching bolt (D).

Remove the high-pressure tube from vehicle.

IMPORTANTWhen disconnecting/connecting hoses, do not apply an excessive force to them. Confirm that no torsion and excessive tension exists after installing. Seal the disconnected hose with a plug or vinyl tape to prevent contamination from entering.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Charge refrigerant.

Tightening torque

Refer to COMPONENT in General Description.

Open the hood.

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

Disconnect the ambient sensor connector.

Remove the ambient sensor from radiator lower panel.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Disconnect the ground cable from battery.

Remove the front defroster grille.

Disconnect the sunload sensor connector (A).

IMPORTANTBe careful not to damage the sensors and interior trims when removing them.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Remove the front seats.

Remove the console box.

Remove the side sill front cover, side sill rear cover and center pillar lower trim.

Remove the foot rest.

Remove the clips from floor mat.

Remove the mat hook.

Remove the mat from toe board area.

Remove the rear heater duct cover (A). Draw out the rear heater duct from the unit assembly and slide it forward to remove.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Note. Secure the mat firmly with hook and Velcro tape. Insert the mat edge firmly into the groove of side sill cover.

Remove the instrument panel.

Remove the screws.

Remove the heater vent duct.
