- Shift transfer case into 2WD.
- Raise vehicle.
- Drain transfer case lubricant.
- Remove the transfer case skid plate, if equipped.
- Support transmission with jack stand.
- Remove crossmember and transmission mount.
- Mark front and rear propeller shafts for alignment reference.
- Remove front and rear propeller shafts.
- Disconnect transfer case shift motor and mode sensor wire connectors (3). (Scheme 68)
- Disconnect transfer case vent hose.
- Support transfer case with transmission jack.
- Secure transfer case to jack with chains.
- Remove nuts attaching transfer case (2) to transmission (1).
- Pull transfer case and jack rearward to disengage transfer case.
- Remove transfer case from under vehicle.
