WHEEL RADIAL & LATERAL RUNOUT

WARNINGDo NOT straighten or weld light alloy wheels.

The maximum permissible radial runout and lateral runout of light alloy wheels is .0275" (0.7 mm).

The maximum permissible radial runout and lateral runout of the wheel with the tire mounted is .049" (1.25 mm). Value close to .0197" (0.5 mm) are desirable.

RIDE HEIGHT

Note. Front and rear vehicle ride height is not adjustable.

  1. Position ready-to-drive vehicle (fuel tank full with spare tire and tool kit installed) on a flat surface. If vehicle is equipped with electronic level control (air suspension), the normal level must be set. See «ADJUSTING CAR TO NORMAL LEVEL (AIR SUSPENSION)»(ref-161370-S42482400942004040700000) under DISABLING/ENABLING ELECTRONIC LEVEL CONTROL. Turn the air suspension off during wheel alignment.
  2. Compress the vehicle at the front and rear by about 0.984" (25 mm), 2-3 times and allow it to spring back freely.
  3. At the rear axle, measure from wheel contact area to bottom edge of side member suspension subframe (point A). (Scheme 6) Point is at front of drain bore at connection point of control arm to the suspension subframe.
  4. At the front axle, measure from wheel contact area to bottom edge of side member suspension subframe (point A). (Scheme 7) Point is between camber and caster eccentric.

VARYING STRENGTH SPRING SHIM

Color coded shims are located between the lower part of the spring and the spring seats. This is true of left and right, front and rear axles. The shims are NOT intended for adjusting vehicle height. They are used for compensating for differences in coil spring load groups.

If the differences in wheel load are too large, the arrangement of coil springs (same springs left/right) and shims at the bottom (same shims left/right) must be checked. Only coil springs and shims with the same color coding must be installed at the bottom of the left and right side of vehicle.

Due to varying trim variants (additional equipment), a maximum difference in wheel load of 88.2 lbs. (40 kg) from left to right is permitted per axle. This is partly the result of heavier components compared with standard equipment and partly results from additional components that are asymetrically arranged.

DISABLING/ENABLING ELECTRONIC LEVEL CONTROL

CAUTIONBefore jacking up vehicles equipped with air suspension, ensure electronic level control is disabled (switched off).

Adjusting Car To Normal Level (Air Suspension)

  1. If air suspension accumulators of the air suspension are filled, only the ignition has to be switched on. If air pressure in the accumulators is too low, the compressor comes on and loads the battery. In this case, the battery must be charged, or the engine must be started.
  2. Stop the vehicle and apply the brake.
  3. Close vehicle doors.
  4. Tap the right-hand rocker switch in the center console in the appropriate direction until the vehicle has reached the low level. Then set the vehicle to the normal level.
  5. The middle indicator light next to the rocker switch is on permanently. If a further indicator light should come on, a different level is adjusted.

Note. To avoid controlling the air suspension level during a wheel alignment check/adjustment, switch the level control off during the alignment. Switch it on again after work is completed.

Switching Off Electronic Level Control (Air Suspension)

  1. BEFORE switching off air suspension, adjust car to normal level. See «Adjusting Car To Normal Level (Air Suspension)»(ref-161370-S42482400942004040700000) .
  2. Switch on ignition, with engine off.
  3. Push rocker switch forwards for 5-10 seconds. The message "Car May Now Be Lifted" appears in the variable control display of the instrument panel.

Switching On Electronic Level Control (Air Suspension)

  1. Switch on ignition.
  2. Push rocker switch forwards for 5-10 seconds.
  3. Start the engine and drive the vehicle. Level control comes on automatically.

JACKING & HOISTING

CAUTIONRaising the vehicle in the sill area will lead to the deformation of body parts and to leakage in the underbody area.

If the vehicle is equipped with electronic level control (air suspension), adjust the car to normal level and then switch off level control BEFORE lifting vehicle. See DISABLING/ENABLING ELECTRONIC LEVEL CONTROL .

AIR SUSPENSION PRECAUTIONS

CAUTIONIf the vehicle is equipped with electronic level control, it must adjusted to normal level BEFORE performing wheel alignment. See ADJUSTING CAR TO NORMAL LEVEL (AIR SUSPENSION) under DISABLING/ENABLING ELECTRONIC LEVEL CONTROL.

The vehicle normal level MUST be set starting from the low level. The vehicle may be aligned and adjusted in this position only.

If the air suspension control module or one of the level sensors was replaced, a calibration must be carried out using the Porsche System Tester (factory scan tool).

Initializing Steering Angle Sensor

  1. Turn wheels to the straight ahead position. Start engine.
  2. From the straight-ahead position, turn the steering wheel about 20 degrees to the left, and then 20 degrees to the right (past the straight-ahead position).
  3. Drive the vehicle straight ahead for at least one second at a speed above 2.5 MPH.
  4. After initializing, the PSM indicator light should go out and fault codes are erased from memory.

REPROGRAMMING

Whenever tires or wheels are changed, tire pressure monitoring system must be reprogrammed. Enter in the instrument cluster menu TPMS SETTINGS the tire type and tire size. These values will be stored in the control unit when the vehicle is driven.

Minutes To Decimal Degrees Conversion Examples

To convert 17' minutes, go to first column: min (*). Find the 10 row. (Scheme 9) Follow the 10 row to the right until you reach the 7 column. The value is 0.283.

To convert 1° 25', start with the 25'. In the first column: min (*), find the 20 row. Then, follow the 20 row to the 5 column. The 25' conversion is 0.417. The conversion is 1.417.

Decimal Degrees To Minutes Conversion Examples

To convert 0.350: find value in table. (Scheme 9)It is under the 1 column. Follow row to the first column on the left: min (*). This is the 20 row. The conversion is the intersection of the 20 row and 1 column, which is 21'.

To convert 1.683, start by finding.683 in the table. (Scheme 9) This is under the 1 column. Follow the row to the first column on the left: min (*). This is the 40 row. The conversion is the intersection of the 40 row and 1 column, which is 41'. The complete conversion is 1°41'.
