DIAGNOSTIC STARTING POINT - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOCK CONTROL
Begin the system diagnosis by reviewing the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOCK CONTROL DESCRIPTION & OPERATION . Reviewing the Description and Operation information will help you determine the correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists. Reviewing the Description and Operation information will also help you determine if the condition described by the customer is normal operation. SYMPTOMS - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOCK CONTROL

Visual/Physical Inspection
- Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the automatic transmission shift lock control system. Refer to «CHECKING AFTERMARKET ACCESSORIES»(ref-186703-S26730152142005090100000) in Wiring Systems.
- Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.

- Remove the bezel. Refer to BEZEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CLUSTER in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to STEERING COLUMN TRIM COVERS REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the instrument panel trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CENTER in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the front floor trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - FRONT FLOOR CONSOLE in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the front floor console cover. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT - FRONT FLOOR in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Disconnect the park lock cable from the shift lock lever.
- Disconnect the park lock cable from the shift lever plate.
- Disconnect the cable clamp.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ACC or Run position.
- Using a screwdriver, disconnect the cable from the upper bracket.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

- Turn the ignition switch to the ACC or RUN position.
- Connect the cable to the upper bracket.
- Connect the cable clamp.
- Shift the manual selector to Neutral.
- Using a small screwdriver, unlock the lock tab on the cable adjustment assembly (1).
- Install the park lock cable through the hole of the shift lever plate, then press the retainer into the shift lever plate.
- Connect the park lock cable to the shift lock lever.
- Ensure that the ignition switch is in the ACC or RUN position and the manual lever is in the Neutral position.
- Press the lock tab on the cable adjustment assembly.
- Check park lock cable for proper operation.
- Install the front floor console cover. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT - FRONT FLOOR in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Install the front floor trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - FRONT FLOOR CONSOLE in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Install the instrument panel trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CENTER in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to STEERING COLUMN TRIM COVERS REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Install the bezel. Refer to BEZEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CLUSTER in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
