Control of the setting of the ignition and timing

The engine ECU controls the individual ignition coils of the cylinders to obtain an optimum ignition setting at all times in relation to the driving conditions

Starting

The plugs are supplied at the same time in accordance with an ignition setting based on the engine coolant temperature on starting (base setting)

Outside the starting phase

The plugs are supplied at intervals determined by the base ignition setting (based on the quantity of inlet air and the engine speed) to which corrections have been made. the system bases the duration of the supply current on the battery voltage

List of the main corrections made to the ignition setting and duration of current controls

reference: correctionsummary
correction: temperature of the air inducteda correction is made in relation to the temperature of the inlet air. the higher the temperature of the inlet air, the greater the ignition retard
correction: engine coolant temperaturea correction is made in relation to the temperature of the engine coolant. the lower the temperature of the engine coolant, the greater the ignition advance
correction: knocka correction is made in relation to the engine knocking; the more significant the knocking, the greater the ignition retard
correction: stabilisation of the idlea correction is made in relation to the fluctuations in the idle speed
