This publication describes the performance of the exhaust emissions test.

It contains test and adjustment instructions and adjustment data for the exhaust emissions test to be carried out on petrol- and diesel-engined vehicles from model year 2001 (model year code in the VIN = "1" = 10th digit from the left) up to and including MY 2004.5. This publication replaces the brochure "Exhaust emissions test for petrol and diesel engines KTA no. 2522/3" dated 09/2003. The following "Exhaust emissions test" brochures remain valid:

  • Petrol engines 07/1969 to 08/1997 and diesel engines 01/1977 to 08/1997, KTA-1945 of 09/97;
  • Petrol and diesel engines from model year 1998 to model year 2000 1/2, KTA-2266 of 12/99

Country-specific special features, such as deviating legal requirements, tests or values, are therefore not included in this publication.

The adjustment data required for the performance of the exhaust emissions test is specified, in order to avoid confusion due to vehicle type, engine code, year of manufacture or model year code and performance.

Vehicles are designated in accordance with official guidelines.

As this publication is intended for world-wide distribution, it also includes engines, which are not available in all countries as original purchases.

Note. Before carrying out the exhaust emissions test, please look at the test and adjustment instructions. Before beginning the Exhaust Emissions Test, the vehicle's identification data must be entered into the test equipment. All the data can be found in the vehicle registration document, with the exception of the mileage information. As a result, the person carrying out the EGE test must first check to see whether the vehicle registration document is actually identical to the vehicle being tested. This check is required by law. The vehicle identification data are listed in numbered fields in the vehicle registration document.

As the instructions in this publication regarding checking and adjusting operations on the mixture and ignition systems are in the form of key points only, the instructions given in the Service Instructions or Checking Procedures (TIS 2000) must be observed if required.
