The Vectra-C, MY 2005 has a new ABS version. The current ABS version, ABS-TC+ with traction control, no longer exists. It is replaced by the new ABS-M, which has improved traction control.
This ABS-M differs from standard ABS by having a modified control unit with different software. The way in which the traction control functions is completely new. Until now a force was exerted against the turning of the drive wheels which put a brake on them individually if there was wheel slip. This was combined with a reduction in engine torque.
The future ABS-M works exclusively by reducing engine performance. If there is any slip on a drive wheel, the control unit intervenes in the motor management system and reduces engine output. This decreases the speed on the turning drive wheels until the wheels engage once more.
The operation of the traction control is shown by a flashing control indicator (arrow) in the combination instrument.
The new traction control is a simplification, as with the discontinuation of the individual braking functions of the drive wheels, only the hydraulic modulator of the standard ABS is used. This minimises susceptibility to faults and cost of service. The advantages of traction control, for example safe driving on slippery surfaces, remain.
Traction control TC+ is still being installed with ABS-ESP+ / TC+. The hydraulic modulator is the same as that of ABS-TC+.
