Electronic Climate Control (Ecc) Opel Vectra B

Electronic Climate Control (ECC)

Vectra - B as of Model Year 96.5

Condition:

The Electronic Climate Control system is available for the Vectra - B as of Model Year 96.5.

This Technical Information Bulletin contains descriptions of the installation and removal of ECC components, the conditions for setting trouble codes and the program memory codes.

Location of ECC Components

1 Temperature selection (increase temperature)

2 Display, preselected temperature

3 Decrease fan speed

4 ECC key "automatic operation ON"

5 Display of fan speed (0 - 9)

6 Increase fan speed

7 ECO switch (switch compressor off)

8 Air distribution selection keys

9 ECC "OFF" key

10 Temperature preselection (decrease temperature)

11 Servo motor, defroster flap

12 Vacuum unit, recirculating air valve

13 Servo motor, mixed air valve

14 Servo motor, vent valve

15 Servo motor, footwell valve

16 Fan regulator

Illustration shows LHD. In RHD vehicles, the fan regulator, the recirculating air valve vacuum unit and the servo motors are located in mirror image positions.

ECCControl Panel, Remove and Install

Vehicles with full panel:

Carefully prise ECC control panel (1) at the bottom out of centre console (I, arrows), and pull upwards.

Insert ECC control panel (2) at the top first - ensure that retaining clips (II, arrows) are correctly seated - and engage at the bottom.

Vehicles with split panel:

Carefully prise ECC control panel (3) out of centre console

and pull backwards.

Place ECC control panel on ECC controls.

ECC Controls, Remove and Install

Remove ECC control panel. Remove radio and radio inset frame.

Remove all control switches and switch strip. Release wiring harness plugs (1, 2) and detach from ECC controls.

Vehicles with full panel: unscrew fastening bolts (3, 4).

Press in two lower lugs (II, arrows) with screwdriver, press ECC controls forward and remove upwards.

Insert ECC controls, note positioning of guide pins (III, arrows). Connect wiring harness plugs and engage.

Vehicles with full panel: fasten ECC controls with bolts (3, 4).

Install switch strip and control switches. Install radio inset frame and radio. Install ECC control panel.

Note:

After replacing the controls, synchronise the servo motors: ignition ON, actuate AUTO and OFF keys simultaneously for about 5 seconds.

Important:

The regulating electronics in the ACC controls assembly can be replaced separately. The panel acts as transport protection and must be replaced by the previous panel before installation. Observe the instructions on the regulator unit sticker.

Bulbs, ECC Controls, Replace

Remove controls with panel, turn bulb carrier (arrows) 90o counter - clockwise and remove.

Remove bulb from bulb carrier

Insert bulb in bulb carrier Screw bulb carrier with bulb into ECC controls. Install ECC controls.

Air Outlet Temperature Sensor, Remove and Install

Remove ECC controls.

Release wiring harness plug (1) and detach from air outlet temperature sensor Turn air outlet temperature sensor (2) 90° counter clockwise and remove from air distributor housing.

Insert air outlet temperature sensor in air distributor housing and fasten by turning 90o clockwise. Connect wiring harness plug.

Install ECC controls.

Fan Regulator, Remove and Install

Remove left footwell air duct.

Remove driver's side heater chamber cover.

Remove accelerator pedal.

Detach fan regulator (1) (2 bolts, arrows) and remove from air distributor housing. Release wiring harness plug (2) and detach.

Install fan regulator. Connect wiring harness plug. Install accelerator pedal. Install driver's side heater chamber cover Install left footwell air duct.

Servo Motor, Mixed Air Valve, Remove and Install

Remove right footwell air duct. Remove glove compartment.

Remove coolant line cover.

Release wiring harness plug (2) and detach. Remove mixed air valve servo motor (1) (2 bolts, arrows). Detach linkage from adjuster lever (3).

Attach linkage to adjuster lever and install mixed air valve servo motor Connect wiring harness plug. Install coolant line cover and glove compartment. Install right footwell air duct.

Then synchronise the servo motors: ignition ON, actuate AUTO and OFF keys simultaneously for longer than 5 seconds.

Remove right footwell air duct. Remove glove compartment.

Release wiring harness plug (1) and detach.

Remove defroster valve servo motor (2) (2 bolts, arrows).

Install defroster valve servo motor Connect wiring harness plug. Install right footwell air duct. Install glove compartment.

Then synchronise the servo motors: ignition ON, actuate AUTO and OFF keys simultaneously for longer than 5 seconds.

Servo Motor, Footwell Valve, Remove and Install

Remove left footwell air duct. Remove driver's side heater chamber cover Release wiring harness plug (1) and detach. Detach cable tie (3). Remove footwell valve servo motor (2) (2 bolts, arrows).

Detach linkage from adjuster lever (4).

Attach linkage to adjuster lever and install footwell valve servo motor Connect wiring harness plug. Install driver's side heating chamber cover Install left footwell air duct.

Then synchronise the servo motors:

Ignition ON, actuate AUTO and OFF keys simultaneously for longer than 5 seconds.

Servo Motor, Vent Valve, Remove and Install

Remove instrument panel padding.

Release wiring harness plug (1) and detach.

Remove vent valve servo motor (2) (2 bolts, arrows).

Install vent valve servo motor Connect wiring harness plug.

Install instrument panel padding.

Then synchronise the servo motors: ignition ON, actuate AUTO and OFF keys simultaneously for longer than 5 seconds.

Sun Sensor, Replace

Press in lug (3) in sun sensor (1) with screwdriver as shown.

Remove sun sensor from windscreen air duct panel.

Prevent wiring harness plug (2) from falling into installation aperture with screwdriver as shown and detach from sun sensor

Connect wiring harness plug, insert sun sensor in windscreen air duct panel.

Contrary to the statement in the "Electronic Climate Control" Vectra - B as of MY `96.5 Checking Procedures, there is no difference for programming between Saloon and Estate:
