Remove
- 1. Disconnect ground cable of battery
- 2. Remove steering wheel height adjustment handle
- 3. Unclip steering column panelling above (1) • Unclip steering column panelling at the top using plastic wedge (2) • Remove upper steering column panelling
- 4. Remove lower steering column panelling (2) • Unscrew 2x bolts at top (1) • Unscrew 1x bolt below (3) • Remove lower steering column panelling
- 5. Remove ventilation duct (1) driver's side • Remove expanding rivet (arrow)
- 6. Remove control unit/EPS engine (1) • Disengage and remove wiring harness plugs (3) from EPS control unit • Unscrew 2x bolt (2) • Remove EPS control unit with engine
Note. Control unit/EPS engine should only be replaced with entirely new units
Install
Important. Use the special grease (3) included in the repair kit, as otherwise there is a risk of noise being generated.
- 7. Coat toothing (2) of control unit/EPS motor (1) with special grease (arrow) • Cut open bag containing the special grease (3) (guide line)
Note. Ensure cleanliness.
- 8. Install control unit/EPS engine (1) • Carefully install EPS engine control unit • Screw in 2x bolts (2) 9 Nm • Connect wiring harness plug (3) of EPS control unit and lock until the retaining clip is heard to engage
Note. Illustrations show vehicle with LHD. For a vehicle with RHD proceed similarly.
- 9. Install ventilation duct (1) on driver's side • Affix expanding rivet (arrow)
- 10. Install lower steering column panelling • Position lower steering column panelling • Screw in bottom bolt • Screw in 2x bolts above
- 11. Clip on upper steering column panelling • Position upper steering column panelling • Clip on upper steering column panelling
- 12. Install steering wheel height adjustment handle
- 13. Connect battery ground cable.
- 14. When replacing control unit/EPS engine: • Calibrate steering angle sensor – Connect Tech2 – Select "F0" vehicle diagnosis – Select model year – Select model (Meriva) – Select "F3" chassis – Select electric power steering – Turn on ignition and confirm – Confirm part number – Select "F4" extra functions – Select "F0" calibration – Follow instructions on Tech2 – Separate Tech2 from vehicle
- 15. Check straight-ahead position • see operation "Straight-Ahead Position, Check/Adjust
