Subject:Engine Z16XEP - Engine jerks
Models:Engines:Option:
Vectra-C 2006,Zafira-B 2006,Astra-H 2006,Meriva 2006,Signum 2006Z16XEP,Z16XEP,Z16XEP,Z16XEP,Z16XEP
Complaint:Engine jerks, sometimes together with misfire trouble code (p030x) or no trouble code at all.
Cause:O2 sensor 1 defect. O2 signal interrupted because of a micro crack in the sensor. The failure can be identified as follows: Test drive with higher load (speed approx. 130 km/h 4th or 5th gear). In case of a defect lambda probe the O2 sensor 1 signal gets down to lean mixture and in parallel the O2 sensor 2 gets high and the mixture adaptation gets also high. Engine stalls.
Production:New software with modified heating strategy has been introduced in production. B/P will be provided later.

Remedy:

In case of customer complaint check data list as described and exchange the O2 sensor 1 if verified. After replacement of the lambda probe it is necessary to reset the learned values in ECU by using Tech 2. If the learnt values are not reset the complaint will remain although the cause of the failure is already eliminated. Additionally the ECU has to be reprogrammed with new software as of TIS 2000-DVD, version 76.

New software with changed heating strategy is available for following vehicles: -> Astra-H as of MY 6,5; -> Zafira-B as of MY 6,5, -> Vectra-C/Signum All, Meriva All

Note: Reset of adaptive values via Tech 2 is not possible for Astra-G with Z16XEP. To reset the adaptive values proceed as follows: Disconnect lambda probe wiring harness to get a failure entry in ECU. Adaptive values will be reset together with the deletion of the DTC.
