Disc brakes of various sizes can be fitted to the Corsa-D at the front. At the rear, either drum brakes or disc brakes are used, depending on engine and vehicle weight.
The new ABS 8.1 anti-lock braking system is used; this is an enhanced version of the already familiar ABS 8.0.
Front Brake System
Only disc brakes with floating single-piston calipers are used at the front. The brake pads are guided by four plates in the backing plate.
In addition a 10-inch dual-rate brake servo is used. The brake servo is attached to the bulkhead with four nuts. The compact brake master cylinder has a diameter of 22.22mm .
The more powerful engines, the Z 17 DTR and Z 16 LER, require a higher brake fluid flow rate. On these variants, the brake master cylinder has a diameter of 23.81 mm .
For design reasons, the brake fluid reservoir cannot sit on top of the brake master cylinder on right-hand drive models. Because the installation space is too narrow, the reservoir is located instead on the left-hand spring strut dome and is connected by means of hoses to the brake master cylinder.
• Service: When replacing the brake master cylinder on left-hand drive vehicles, the replacement part consists of the brake master cylinder with attached brake fluid reservoir. Therefore, the brake fluid reservoir remains attached when removing the brake master cylinder. As before, however, it is still possible to replace the brake fluid reservoir.
