1. Open bonnet
Caution!
On vehicles from model year 04 with ESP - the steering angle sensor loses its basic adjustment each time the battery is disconnected. It must be recalibrated.
2. Disconnect battery
- Detach ground cable
3. Remove coolant compensation tank.
- Detach retaining clip
- Unclip coolant hoses
- Set coolant compensation tank to one side
4. Disconnect wiring harness plug (1)
- From ABS control unit
5. Detach fuse box in engine compartment
- Remove 2 nuts (arrows)
6. Detach hydraulic modulator bracket.
- Remove 3 bolts (arrows)
7. Detach fuse box in engine compartment
- Remove engine compartment fuse box cover
- Unclip relay/ fuse carrier (arrows)
- Unclip pre-heater system control unit wiring harness
8. Remove pre-heating control unit
- Detach engine compartment fuse box from inner wheel well
- Carefully push engine compartment fuse box/hydraulic modulator aside
- Unclip pre-heating control unit (1)
- Detach wiring harness plug (2).
9. Install pre-heating control unit
10. Attach fuse box in engine compartment
- Clip in pre-heater system control unit wiring harness
- Clip in relay/ fuse carrier
- Install engine compartment fuse box cover
11. Attach hydraulic modulator bracket
- Tighten 3 bolts (20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.)
12. Attach fuse box in engine compartment
- Tighten 2 nuts
13. Attach wiring harness plug
- To ABS control unit
14. Install coolant compensation tank.
- Attach retaining clip
- Clip in coolant hoses
15. Connect battery
16. Calibrate steering angle sensor
- Switch on ignition
Note. Rotate the steering wheel one time from its right-hand to its left-hand stop.
