Note. Before installation work affecting the airbag, follow the safety instructions for the pyrotechnic systems.
Remove
- 1. Remove airbag unit
Note. The airbag unit must not be forced open and must always be laid with the cushion side facing upwards.
- 2. Vehicles with Open and Start: Connect the battery and switch on the ignition
- 3. Lock steering • Turn steering into straight-ahead position • Pull out ignition key. • Allow steering lock to engage
Note. Disregard for vehicles with Open and Start.
Note. Vehicles with Open and Start: Switch off the ignition. Open and close the driver's door. The steering lock and ignition lock engage automatically.
- 4. Separate wiring harness plug (1) for horn / infotainment
- 5. Remove steering wheel from steering column • Unscrew bolt (2) • Remove steering wheel from steering shaft
Install
- 6. Insert steering wheel in Column Integration Module (CIM) • The guide pin (1) on the back of the steering wheel must engage in the carrier (2) of the Column Integration Module (CIM)
Note. The airbag contact unit must not be twisted.
Note. During removal and installation, make sure that the markings (arrows) are in the positions illustrated.
- 7. Guide airbag (1) wiring harness through opening in steering wheel hub
- 8. Attach steering wheel to steering shaft • Place steering wheel on steering column • Screw in bolt 30 Nm
Note. Ensure that the marks (2) on the steering wheel and steering shaft align
Note. Clean thread and fit new bolt with locking compound
- 9. Connect wiring harness plug for horn / infotainment
- 10. Install airbag unit
- 11. Connect ground cable to battery.
