REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

WARNINGVehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system-related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See appropriate AIR BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. Before disconnecting battery, see COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

Removal

  1. Block the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving. Remove the rubber ash tray inserts and rubber mat from the console.
  2. Remove the floor shift knob. See «FLOOR SHIFT KNOB»(ref-139895-S04929302432002051000000). Remove the center console shift lever bezel (Bravada only). Remove the console storage bin. See «FLOOR CONSOLE STORAGE BIN»(ref-139895-S08090925012002051100000).
  3. Remove the center console retaining screws. Adjust the parking brake to the fully engaged position.
  4. Release the 2 forward trim extensions ears attached to the lower instrument panel (Bravada only). Slide the console rearward and raise the rear of the console in order to expose the electrical connectors.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors as necessary. Adjust the parking brake to approximately the halfway position. Remove the center console from the vehicle. (Scheme 156)

Installation

  1. Position the center console to the vehicle. Adjust the parking brake to the or fully engaged position. (Scheme 156) Connect the electrical connectors as necessary.
  2. Lower the rear of the console and slide the console forward into position. Ensure the 2 retaining ears on the front extensions of the console are fully engaged to the lower instrument panel (Bravada only).
  3. Install the center console retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 22 INCH lbs. (2.5 N.m). Install the console storage bin. See «FLOOR CONSOLE STORAGE BIN»(ref-139895-S08090925012002051100000).
  4. Install the center console shift lever bezel. Install the floor shift knob. See «FLOOR SHIFT KNOB»(ref-139895-S04929302432002051000000).
  5. Install the rubber ash tray inserts and rubber mat to the console. Remove the bocks from the vehicle.

Open the storage bin cover. Remove the 6 screws that retain the storage bin to the console. (Scheme 157) Remove the storage bin from the console.

Install the storage bin to the console. Install the 6 screws that retain the storage bin to the console. Tighten the screws to 22 INCH lbs. (2.5 N.m). (Scheme 157) Close the storage bin cover.

Scheme 157: Installation
  1. Remove the front floor console. See «FLOOR CONSOLE»(ref-139895-S42580479942002051000000).
  2. Disconnect the shift lock control solenoid wiring harness. Remove the end of the range selector cable (1) from the transmission control ball stud. (Scheme 158)
  3. Remove the range selector cable (2) from the floor shift control. Remove the transmission control bolts. Remove the transmission control. (Scheme 159)
  1. Install the transmission control. Install the transmission control bolts. (Scheme 159) Tighten the transmission control bolts to 18 ft lbs. (25 N.m).
  2. Install the range selector cable (2) to the floor shift control. (Scheme 158) Install the end of the range selector cable (1) to the transmission control ball stud.
  3. Connect the shift lock control solenoid wiring harness. Install the front floor console. See «FLOOR CONSOLE»(ref-139895-S42580479942002051000000).
  4. Check for proper operation of the floor shift control. Adjust the range selector cable if necessary. See «RANGE SELECTOR CABLE»(ref-139895-S18800462552002051100000) under ADJUSTMENTS.

  1. Ensure the transmission is in Park. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the end of the range selector cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud (6). see scheme 2
  2. Remove the retainer (5) from the range selector cable. Remove the range selector cable (4) from the bracket (1). Remove the cable from the retainer (3) on the floor panel.
  3. If the vehicle is equipped with 4WD, remove the cable from the retainers located on the transfer case. On all models, remove the drivers side front mat and carpet. Push the cable grommet (2) up through the floor panel. (Scheme 160) Lower the vehicle.
  4. Remove the console. See «FLOOR CONSOLE»(ref-139895-S42580479942002051000000). Remove the end of the range selector cable (1) from the floor control ball stud. (Scheme 158)
  5. Remove the range selector cable (2) from the floor shift control assembly. Remove the tape and grommet on the shift cable from the floor panel. Remove the range selector cable (3) from the vehicle.

  1. Push the cable down through the floor panel and install the grommet (2). (Scheme 160) Install the range selector cable (2) to the floor shift control assembly. (Scheme 158)
  2. Install the end of the range selector cable (1) to floor control ball stud. Install the drivers side front mat and carpet. Install the console. See «FLOOR CONSOLE»(ref-139895-S42580479942002051000000).
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Install the cable to the retainer (3) on the floor panel. see scheme 2 If the vehicle is equipped with 4WD, install the cable to the retainers located on the transfer case.
  4. On all models, install the range selector cable (4) to the bracket (1). Install the retainer (5) to the range selector cable. Install the end of the range selector cable to the transmission range selector lever ball stud (6). Adjust the range selector cable. Lower the vehicle and check for proper operation.

The floor shift control knob and boot are serviced as an assembly. Loosen the set screw (3) or (1) (Bravada only). (Scheme 161) Push in at the base of the boot to release the locking tabs (2) from the console assembly. Pull up to remove the knob and boot assembly from the transmission control (4).

Install the knob and boot assembly onto the transmission control (4). Engage the locking tabs (2) with the console assembly. (Scheme 161) Tighten the control knob set screw (1 or 3) to 18 INCH lbs. (2 N.m).

Remove the pushrod retainer from the brake pedal pin. Remove the stoplamp switch and the pushrod from the brake pedal pin. (Scheme 162) Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the stoplamp switch.

Install the electrical connector on the stoplamp switch. Position the stoplamp switch on the pushrod and install on the brake pedal pin. Install the pushrod retainer to the brake pedal pin. (Scheme 162) The retainer will snap into place.
