DIAGNOSTIC STARTING POINT
Begin the system diagnosis by reviewing DESCRIPTION & OPERATION . Reviewing the description and operation information will help you determine the correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists. Reviewing the description and operation information will also help you determine if the condition described by the customer is normal operation. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS in order to identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
Visual/Physical Inspection
Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the shift lock control system. Inspect easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
Symptom List
Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom
- Park Lock Solenoid Inoperative
- Shift Lever Does Not Move With Brake Pedal Depressed
- Shift Lever Can Be Moved Without Brake Pedal Depressed
See appropriate test under SYMPTOM TESTS .
SYMPTOM TESTS
| CAUTION | Use caution when probing fuses or junction blocks, or any connectors. Damage may result to connector or terminal if probe being used is too large. Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result. |
| Symptom | Test |
|---|---|
| Park Lock Solenoid Inoperative | A |
| Shift Lever Does Not Move With Brake Pedal Depressed | B |
| Shift Lever Can Be Moved Without Brake Pedal Depressed | C |
