PARK LOCK SYSTEM
The park lock solenoid is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of Park when the key is in the OFF position. The key must be in the RUN position to release the park lock solenoid. The system consists of the park lock solenoid.
With the ignition switch in the ON position, voltage is supplied to the park lock solenoid. The park lock solenoid energizes through a permanent ground unlocking the gearshift lever. With the ignition switch in the OFF or ACC position, the park lock solenoid de-energizes and locks the gearshift lever in the Park position.
SHIFT LOCK BY-PASS PROCEDURE
In the event that service is required, a park lock solenoid manual release lever is located on the top right side of the floor shift assembly, under the gearshift lever trim boot. To operate the manual release lever, block the wheels and apply the parking brake. Lift the gearshift lever boot to expose the release lever. Push the release lever toward the front of the vehicle and move the gearshift lever to the Neutral position. (Scheme 168)

Intermittents
Intermittent faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Check for loose, bent or corroded terminals and terminal tension. Check for cut, bare or pinched wiring. Simulate the condition that is potentially causing the intermittent connection, either by wiggling the connections or the wiring, test driving or performing other operations while observing scan tool, DVOM or other testing equipment. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
RANGE SELECTOR CABLE
- Ensure the range selector cable is not restricted. Ensure the floor shift control is in the Park position. Raise and support the vehicle.
- Disconnect the range selector cable (4) from the range selector lever ball stud (6). (Scheme 169) Ensure the range selector lever is in the mechanical Park position. Rotate the range selector lever fully clockwise.
- Release the locking tab (2) and slide the secondary lock cover (1) to the side. (Scheme 170) Carefully squeeze the locking tabs (1) together to disengage the primary lock. (Scheme 171)
- Disengage the primary lock. Spring tension will push the end of the cable past the ball stud. Push the end of the cable until it is aligned with the ball stud.
- Install the cable (4) to the ball stud (6). (Scheme 169) Seat the primary locking tabs (1). (Scheme 171) Slide the secondary lock (2) over the primary lock. (Scheme 170) Lower the vehicle. Check the vehicle for proper operation.

STOPLAMP SWITCH
Note. The stoplamp switch is self-adjusting. No adjustment is required.
