Piston Pin Replacement Nissan Stanza II

Mechanical 1 illustration ~380 words
  1. Piston pin is press fit into connecting rod and has sliding fit in piston. To remove, set piston and rod assembly in Hydraulic Press (Pin Stand KV101070S0). Press pin out of rod. DO NOT damage piston during removal.
  2. Check pin and pin hole for signs of galling or excessive wear. Measure diameter of piston pin, piston pin hole, and rod small end. Check pin-to-piston and pin-to-rod clearance.
  3. Standard pin diameter is.7872-.7874" (19.995-20.000 mm). Standard piston pin hole inside diameter is.7875-.7879" (20.003-20.012 mm).
  4. Check pin-to-piston clearance and pin-to-rod interference fit. See «PISTONS, PINS & RINGS»(ref-25454-S30289453072001011500000) table. To assemble piston and rod, warm piston to room temperature.
  5. Lubricate with oil and insert pin into piston with finger pressure only. Hold piston and rod in proper alignment and press in pin. (Scheme 6) Assemble with oil hole of rod big end toward right side of block.

Removal

  1. With engine removed from vehicle, remove cylinder head assembly and oil pan. Remove connecting rod cap nuts. Remove piston and connecting rod assemblies. Remove alternator and engine mount bracket.
  2. Remove crankshaft pulley, timing belt covers, belt tensioner, timing belt, and crankshaft sprocket. Remove oil pump and front oil seal.
  3. Remove clutch assembly, flywheel, and rear plate. Loosen main bearing cap bolts, in 2 stages, and then remove caps. Remove rear oil seal retainer assembly. Carefully lift out crankshaft.

Note. Keep main bearing caps in order for reassembly reference. Check all main and connecting rod bearings, using Plastigage method.

Inspection

Clean and inspect crankshaft. Blow out oil passages with compressed air. Check crankshaft journals and crank pins for scoring, wear, cracks, taper, and out-of-round. Ensure crankshaft is within tolerances. See CRANKSHAFT SPECIFICATIONS table.

Installation

  1. Install main bearing halves into engine block. Ensure that all bearings are on correct journal. Journal No. 3 requires a thrust bearing. Upper and lower bearings are not interchangeable.
  2. Apply oil to main bearing surface and install crankshaft. Install main bearing caps so numbers on bearing caps are in a row, starting from front of engine. Tighten main bearing caps in 2 or 3 stages, starting at center bearing and working outward. Ensure crankshaft rotates smoothly.
  3. Check crankshaft end play. See «THRUST BEARING ALIGNMENT»(ref-25454-S09482565752001011500000) . Install rear oil seal retainer. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.
